Hazelwood Care Home, located in Longfield in the lovely north Kent countryside, is a purpose-built care home, dedicated to assisting residents in making the most of every day. Having opened in 2000 and renovated in 2019, Hazelwood is a modern home with two floors that have been specifically constructed to satisfy the needs of its residents.

Hazelwood Care Home offers residents exemplary standards of Dementia, Nursing, Residential and Respite Care. With a wide range of exceptional facilities, the home provides Dementia Care with nursing needs on the first floor in the Poppy Unit and general Nursing Care for elderly individuals on the ground floor in the Primrose Unit.

The care Mum received at Hazelwood was exemplary. All the staff seemed to get to know her, and as far as possible, understand her likes and dislikes. Her engagement was encouraged, and to some extent, thrived. Her last few days were calm, peaceful and expertly managed. The day and evening teams worked
seamlessly to help Mum and us through the most difficult of times. The care, compassion and professionalism were of the very highest quality.

Unfortunately my father became very unwell and needed specialist nursing care following a severe illness. Myself and my family started the difficult journey of finding a nursing home that we felt would meet his needs and be a safe and comfortable environment for him. As soon as we visited Hazelwood
Care Home we knew that this was the right environment for him. The time and attention we received from staff at the very beginning of my dad's journey demonstrated to us as a family that this home had the right values we were looking for and we were never disappointed. The manager knows and understands all of his residents and struck up a deeply respectful relationship with our dad which we know helped him immensely during a difficult time for him. The staff went out of their way to keep him safe and happy, made him laugh and were there for him when he was struggling. They truly cared for our dad and were a great support for our mother which we will never forget and be forever grateful for. Thank you all.

My sisters and I became overwhelmed by the level of care our mother needed last summer and had to admit we could no longer look after her at home. Mum had advanced vascular dementia and had developed issues with her mobility. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have found Hazelwood Care Home and
its skilled and dedicated staff for whom nothing was too much trouble.
The staff looked after Mum with total respect for her dignity and jollied her along with good humour and total dedication. Who cares if, on occasion, she was wearing a random pair of slippers!
When the end came the staff not only looked after mum but also supported us. They eased us through that final journey and we will be forever grateful.

25th of July 2019, I was informed by the hospital that I needed to put Mum in a nursing home, 2 sources independently recommended Hazelwood Care Home. that day I made contact with the managers assistant and was shown round. I was flying on Holiday on the 2nd of August, the manager was on leave until
Tuesday 30th, I was told he would probably assist Mum the next day. He came in one day early just to see his CQC results. This confirmed to me that the manager was dedicated and the home worked well. All the staff and the home has exceeded at all levels. I commend them and recommend them.

I cannot thank the staff at Hazelwood enough for their professionalism, friendliness and above all the outstanding care received. The communication with me regarding my relative is excellent and I have been given a lot of support too. I am continually impressed by the extremely high standard of care,
dignity and respect given to my relative by all of the staff. The home environment is perfect, with cleanliness and hygiene second to none. This is an extremely well-managed home and the manager is at the heart of the home, very easy to talk to, very supportive, and very, very caring.
I wish to thank everyone for their incredible work to provide a home for its residents of which they should be very proud.

Dad moving into a nursing home was such a difficult time for all of us, the team at Hazelwood have worked so hard, with compassion and kindness to make sure that he has settled well and that we are included in his care. Dad has lived at Hazelwood for nearly a year now and the team have encouraged and
supported him to gain back some of his limited independence, he looks the most relaxed I have seen him in a long time.
We are always welcomed and Dad has remained well, during such a difficult time.

My father moving into Hazelwood in July 2020 was one of the best decisions we have made in relation to his care. All of the staff at Hazelwood are friendly, polite and always have a smile on their face. My dad spends a lot of time in the office with the care home manager or sat by the nurse's station
at weekends. They never make him, or us, feel that this is an inconvenience in any way. They keep us informed of dad's health or if he needs anything, but call at least once a month with an update and to check with us to see if we have any concerns. Their Covid precautions have been excellent and we have been able to visit regularly using the garden, a dedicated visitor room or his own room more recently. Whilst my dad now has Alzheimer's and isn't as sociable as he once was, the staff gently encourage him to participate in the regularly organised activities. The home is clean, well maintained and provides the safe environment we needed for dad. He, and us, are very happy. Thank you.

My father had been a resident of Hazelwood for a little over two years. When I turned up without an appointment to view, I was shown around by the manager, greeted with a smile and a good morning by staff, and immediately knew it was the perfect place for my sometimes difficult Father who had one-sided
paralysis from a stroke and dementia. I fought hard with the local council to have my dad placed in Hazelwood, and I have never regretted that.
From the staff member in reception, the manager, and all the staff, I've received nothing but friendliness and professionalism when required. They treated my father exceptionally well, and they made me feel part of their family. Invitations to events and BBQ's were always extended.
When my father passed away, he was treated with dignity and respect. Many members of staff came by his room to say goodbye, and they took the time to make sure my brother and I were fed and supplied with tea while we sat with Dad.
I can highly recommend.

My mother, who has Alzheimer's, is extremely well cared for at Hazelwood, and I cannot recommend them highly enough. All the carers and nursing staff are kind, caring and professional and know and manage their clients very well. The manager and admin team are also excellent and have provided both practical
and emotional support to me which is much appreciated. The home is very well run and managed, and you feel that everything is focused on the clients and their needs.

My mother has been a resident of Hazelwood Care Home since April (2020). The management and staff are absolutely superb; they are so kind and patient with Mum, I could not ask for more. The building and gardens are well maintained, and the hair salon is a great boost for Mum. The events are excellent;
the residents have been enjoying BBQ's in the sun. The staff are helpful, compassionate and considerate. Mum is content with her own possessions around her to make her feel at home. I am happy my lovely mum is at Hazelwood.

My stepmother was very distraught when admitted to Hazelwood. Within three days, they had managed to calm her down completely - something rehab hadn't managed to do in seven weeks. I am extremely happy that she is now in a safe place and it is obvious from our meeting with the manager recently, that
he is totally on top of the covid19 situation or knows my stepmother's little foibles. It would appear that she will have a stimulating and anxiety-free life while she is in their care.

I have been more than happy with the care received after being admitted from the hospital in April 2020. The home has contacted me frequently during the time spent here, keeping me updated with the progression of illness and changes in medication. The staff are all friendly and helpful. The rooms and

My mother has been at Hazelwood Care Home for 4 months. Most of this time has involved the Covid19 lockdown. My visits have therefore been more limited than under normal circumstances. When I have been able to visit I have been very pleased with what I have seen. Mum is safe and very well cared for.
All of the staff are very friendly and helpful. I have been kept well informed about Mum's health and care despite the early restrictions. Visiting re-commenced as soon as it was safely possible to do so and a good vigilance has been maintained throughout. I am very happy that Mum has been able to move there once living safely at home was no longer viable. I am currently unable to comment on the activities as they have been suspended in the main due to Covid and also my mother prefers to stay in her room. I would certainly recommend Hazelwood to anybody looking for residential care.

We struggled to put our mum in a home but we shouldn't have worried, she was in Hazelwood for 7 weeks until she passed away. The staff are amazing and nothing is to much trouble, they genuinely care about the residents and their families. We would like to thank them for making our mum's last few months
comfortable and for reassuring her when she was scared and for the high standard of nursing care and kindness that she received. We would also like to thank Hazelwood's manager for his professional and approachable manner in which he runs Hazelwood. We will never forget his kindness to our mum and us as a family.

Staff have all been very courteous and helpful. The home is always clean. The staff are very caring, and my wife is well looked after. Always been understanding and helpful with PPE for me given the current covid situation. When I phone, they are always cheerful and happy to speak to me, give me information
about my wife, particularly during the lockdown period.

The manager at Hazelwood goes above and beyond to ensure that the residents have the best possible experience. He is always available to relatives to discuss care plans and outcomes. The staff, without exception, gave excellent care to my husband in the seven months he was a resident. Nothing was ever

All my family take it in turns to visit my sister. We are very pleased to go there, we could not speak too highly of all aspects. We only could not rate activities as we have not taken any part in them yet. I was so pleased to see my sister looking at animal books and bird books with a member of staff.

My mum was only in the home for 6 days she was fast-tracked out of hospital for end of life care. I am extremely pleased that I found this home and she spent her last few days here. It was just a shame that she wasn't here for longer as she would have completely loved it. The caring staff and the activities
they provide as she was a peoples person. It was more like a 5-star hotel than a care home

Allison

Allison Pettican

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2024

I’ve had the privilege of managing care homes for 25 years, overseeing a range of care types including residential, nursing, dementia, mental health, palliative, complex, and learning disabilities care.


It’s an honour to care for residents at Hazelwood and support both their families and my dedicated staff team. Before becoming a Home Manager, I worked in various roles supporting vulnerable people and families. I take great pride in ensuring our residents receive high-quality care. Continuous learning and teamwork are essential in our field, and we strive to work together to provide the best possible care for your loved ones.


I’m proud to lead the team at Hazelwood and grateful for the ongoing support from residents, families, and professionals. I look forward to the many great moments ahead.

Anca

Anca Serban

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2018

Anca has worked at Hazelwood as a Registered Nurse for just under 4 years and is now also our deputy manager. Anca has extensive experience, having worked for four years as a health care assistant looking after children with learning disabilities, as well as a health care assistant in the community and three years as a senior health care assistant in a residential home. Anca enjoys making a difference in her residents’ lives, helping and supporting them to ensure their needs are met, and seeing them smile.

Hina Patel

Hina has been a member of staff at Hazelwood for 18 years and has previously worked in hospitals and other care home. To Hina, Hazelwood feels at home and she does her job because she loves looking after elderly people. Hina misses her parents and so it feels good to do something for elderly people.

Marlin

Marlin Kurian

Job Title: Registered Nurse Joined: 2021

Marlin has been a Registered Nurse at Hazelwood Care Home since 2021 having worked as a nurse in India for a year, as well as previously studying for a Master’s degree and working part-time as a care assistant in Ireland for 3 years. Marlin really enjoys interacting with the residents, ensuring they are well taken care of, and working with the great team of staff at Hazelwood.

Alison Ribbens

Alison has been a Senior Care Assistant with us at Hazelwood Care Home for over 5 years. Prior to her role here, Alison worked for the National Trust in their membership department. Alison chose to work in her current role as she wanted to be able to make a difference and enjoys spending time with the residents, ensuring their well-being, and being part of a well-managed team in a friendly and inviting atmosphere.

Megan is one of our Healthcare Assistants here at Hazelwood Care Home and has worked here for over 3 years. Megan enjoys making a difference in the residents’ lives, making them laugh, promoting happiness and well-being and speaking to the families and other external professionals to deliver the best care possible for our residents.

Veenu Photay

Job Title: Senior Healthcare Assistant Joined: 2023

Veenu has worked with us as a Senior Healthcare assistant since March 2023, having previously worked in a hospital in India. She is a qualified medical Nurse in India and also has experience as a Dental Nurse and Administrator. Looking after our residents and seeing the big smiles on their faces is Veenu’s favourite part of her role here.

Baljeet joined us at Hazelwood Care Home in early 2022, having previously worked as a Registered General Nurse in India. Her favourite thing about her role is caring for the residents and making a difference in their lives.

Kafayat Oyunega

Kafayat has worked at Hazelwood Care Home since 2021 and has been working in nursing homes for the elderly for the last 10 years. Kafayat has a real passion for taking care of people and is delighted to be in a role doing what she loves most. What Kafayat loves most about working at Hazelwood is the friendly management and staff and how clean and beautiful the home is.

Wilfredo Carbajal

Job Title: Maintenance Joined: 2012

Wilfredo has worked at Hazelwood for 9 years, previously working in Spain as a builder. When he first started working at Hazelwood, he was a Cleaner and Kitchen Assistant, however, when the role of Maintenance came up he felt it was perfect for him as he enjoys practical work and fixing things. Wilfredo is very happy in his job role as he is doing what he enjoys, t is very interesting, and every day is different. Wilfredo also likes working at Hazelwood as the Manager is supportive, and the staff is friendly.

Heidi Malham

Heidi joined the team here at Hazelwood Care Home in July 2023 having previously worked as an Activity Coordinator in other care homes. Heidi’s favourite part of her role is supporting the residents and seeing them enjoying games and activities and the smiles on their faces.

Laijesh Bhaskaran

Job Title: Cook Joined: 2014

Laijesh has worked at Hazelwood for 7 ½ years and prior to this worked in factories and supermarkets. Laijesh started at Hazelwood in a domestic role, then as a kitchen assistant before progressing to the role of Cook. Laijesh likes his role as a Cook because he enjoys cooking and preparing food for people, and he likes Hazelwood because the staff is friendly and supportive.

Lisa Berwick

Job Title: Head Housekeeper Joined: 2025

With 20 years of experience in the care sector, Lisa brings a wealth of knowledge and warmth to her role as Head Housekeeper. She loves spending time with residents, brightening their day with a friendly chat and a warm smile. Lisa is also proud to be part of the welcoming, supportive team and enjoys helping to create a comfortable, homely environment for everyone.

Roxana

Roxana Zapata

Job Title: Housekeeper Joined: 2012

Before moving to the UK and working at Hazelwood, Roxana worked in Spain doing several cleaning jobs and factory work. She then started working at Hazelwood in 2012 as a Cleaning/Kitchen Assistant before working in the Laundry. Roxana really enjoys her work; the pace of work suits her as I like to keep busy, and the staff and management are all friendly, and the home is very welcoming.

Anchasa has worked at Hazelwood for 4 years with previous experience in Domestic and Kitchen Assistant roles and now as a Cook. Anchasa enjoys working at Hazelwood because the team of staff is so friendly and caring, and her manager is very supportive. She also enjoys her role because she loves to be busy, help people and make a difference in their lives.

Indira joined our team in 2017 and prior to her role here, she worked in restaurant housekeeping for 8 years. Indira’s favourite part of her role is getting to know the residents and their families as well as working with her lovely colleagues.

Manisha has worked at Hazelwood Care Home since 2020 as our Domestic Assistant, having previously had similar job roles. Manisha enjoys her role as the care home is lovely and peaceful, management are supportive and the staff and residents are a pleasure to work with.

Jill is one of our administrators at Hazelwood Care Home and has worked with us for nearly 12 years. She enjoys having a varied workload and meeting new residents and their families, doing whatever she can to support them.

Claire has joined us at Hazelwood Care Home as our Administrator, having previously worked as a solicitor and more recently in a primary school as a kitchen assistant.


She loves coming in to work and enjoys her role working in admin and reception as she loves getting to meet new people and working with the friendly staff.

Vanisha joined the Hazelwood team at the start of 2024. With a background in Admin and previous experience as a receptionist.
