Lukestone Care Centre in Maidstone specialise in providing nursing care for older people who have been diagnosed with Dementia or long-term mental health problems. With a highly qualified and caring team, the nurturing environment creates a home-from-home feel. The Home also employs a Physiotherapist to support residents with rehabilitation, including bespoke packages for day care or short-term placements. Physiotherapy services also help with improving peoples’ strength, avoiding or reducing falls, and improved overall well-being.

Lukestone cares for up to 42 residents, with single room accommodation, the majority of which have ensuite facilities. The Home has two lounges, a dining room, an onsite hair salon and a Dementia-friendly sensory garden which is used year-round and for special gardening projects.

Lukestone's Recreation and Well-being team members ensure residents have access to tailored activities and entertainment seven days a week, to suit each person’s hobbies and interests. Activities are designed for residents’ wellness, enjoyment and sense of well-being, on an individual and group basis. These include fun and lively themed days, seated exercise classes, and relaxing Namaste treatments such as gentle massage.

Well-known for their delicious food and expertise, the Lukestone catering team provides exceptional, nutritious meals and snacks to residents every day. Supported by Nellsar’s Head of Nutrition and Wellness, they recognise that nutrition and hydration are an integral part of good health and well-being.

Employing the Care Vision® digital care management system throughout the Home ensures that the entire care service delivery, recording and reporting systems are optimised and centred around residents and their personalised care.

My mother-in-law was a resident in Lukestone for over 2 years with severe Alzheimer's and end-of-life care. She received excellent care. Her skin and hair were in good condition despite being bedbound for over a year. The nurses knew her personally and always spoke with genuine knowledge of her when
I asked questions. The carers treated her (and all the residents I witnessed) with kindness, and gentleness and were hardworking. The manager and admin staff are also excellent and always make time for my queries and concerns.
Lukestone is a really excellent nursing home which I would recommend to anyone.

My mum has flourished living here since 2021. Covid was a challenging time for everyone but the care has always been excellent. Consistent communication from staff has made the transition for her and my family much easier. She is always clean, and comfortable and offered to participate in many stimulating
activities such as theme days, trips out, karaoke, crafts, baking and games. They offer a wonderful food selection and combined with daily morning exercises has meant she is thriving both physically and mentally. My family and I always look forward to our weekly visits and the staff are always welcoming and kind often with many stories to tell from the week before. They treat her like she is their own family and I am grateful she was placed with such a lovely facility.

Very pleasant and helpful staff. Both nurses and carers are thoughtful, considerate and kind and treat residents with respect, and listen to family and friends' comments and suggestions.
Building layouts of older style with narrow passageways can be confusing for visitors and the transfer of non-mobile
residents.
The food looks appetising and overall good care is maintained.

The care home staff have been very caring and supportive of both my mum and myself. The lengths the catering people go to, to cater for my mum's needs has been really impressive. Nothing seems like too much trouble so a big thank you to them. The activities staff have been fantastic and really attentive.
The nursing staff have always kept me informed of any medical issues with my mum, this I've felt comforted by.

My father was transferred to Lukestone from hospital in October 2020. Unfortunately due to Covid restrictions we only saw him on 2 occasions. After this, the staff arranged WhatsApp video calls, then later on behind the perspex screen. Due to him having dementia we were unable to ask him if he was happy
or any other questions regarding his stay. He always looked clean and were advised that he was eating well. The staff go to a lot of effort in arranging occasions like Christmas and Birthdays. The family liaison lady was our lifeline she is so caring and kind. Unfortunately, Dad passed away at the beginning of February and we never got to see him in his final hours. The only thing I would say as a negative is a funeral director and whether he would be cremated or buried should have been decided with the care home beforehand on his admission as a call at 2.25 am advising me of his passing then asking these questions, I felt was a little insensitive.

I can only say what I have seen, I have not been in the home much due to lockdown. Also, the hub which they organised before that we were to sit in the garden which my husband enjoyed.
I must say the staff always helpful and cheerful.

Such a wonderful place! The care of my mother-in-law id of a very high standard. Staff are kind, patient and gentle towards her. She has only been in the home for 4 months and looks so much better, suggesting her nutrition is very good now. A lot of thought goes into keeping families connected with
their loved ones during this awful pandemic, video calls and phone calls make such a difference. Helping residents to make and send Christmas cards and Valentine's day cards to the family is priceless, made our day. My husband and I sleep easier knowing our relative is happy, safe and well cared for.

As a family we are more than happy with the care Mother gets. I just able to come in to see Mother in your visitor room, we have also had video chats.
A very large part of this is the wonderful recreational and welling liaison who is nothing short of an angel.

My mother is very well cared for at Lukestone Care home. The staff are always happy and take great care of Mum. I see them stroke her hands and face and talk with empathy and care. I see Mum smile at the staff, so I know she is happy. That is a great comfort for me.

The care and compassion shown by staff is second to none. Excellent. The freedom is given to visitors to allow a "normal" experience is also very good. Endless supply of food and drink means my wife will need a new wardrobe soon.

Lukestone boasts some traditional Victorian features and has a very homely feel, with recent interior upgrades that have enhanced its cosy, warm atmosphere. We are known in the area for our excellent Dementia Care; Lukestone has always gained recognition from our stakeholders and our relatives provide very positive feedback after experiencing the delightful service and expert care we provide for their loved ones.


Our Home has a great location; nestled 10 minutes away from Maidstone town centre, five minutes to the nearest train station and just a few yards away from a bus stop, we are very accessible for commuters. We are situated close to an Anglican Church, and to Grange Moor Restaurant and Hotel ­– ideal for relaxation and accommodation for visiting relatives.


At Lukestone, we place high importance on respecting and valuing our team members and part of this involves empowering them with extensive development and training opportunities. I find this brings out everyone’s best and elevates individual self-confidence in providing tailored, person-centred care to our dear residents. Our OSCE Nurse programme has been an amazing success, whereby we develop our Health Care Assistants to become fully qualified Nurses, bringing added strength and deeper knowledge and understanding to our team.


I believe in being hands-on and I support and motivate my team to work hard, with determination, while making them feel valued. I strive to ensure our team members come to work happy and leave feeling fulfilled, knowing that they have shared their best, with the freedom they need to develop and lead. I aim to give my team every opportunity to express their views on how to improve the lives of our residents and make their respective roles rewarding. I also like to instil a sense of self-belief that we can all make positive changes and I inspire everyone to progress.


The close involvement of our residents’ families is also an important part of how we shape a person’s care plan; we strongly believe their contribution refines the success of our team and supports us in caring for our residents with dignity, compassion and respect during their time with us.


Two initiatives I am passionate about launching at our Home are our ‘Dementia Like Me’ programme and ‘Come Dine with me at Lukestone’. Our Dementia Like Me programme will aim to match each of our residents with a team member who shares their interests and hobbies, so they can enjoy spending time sharing the things they both love – watching movies, collecting memorabilia, a passion for the royal family, gardening and more. The programme will provide time and support to celebrate these passions together, or with other residents, team members and family members.


We also have plans to put in place a weekly special event in our dining room to mimic cuisines around the world, and for our residents and relatives to experience Lukestone’s diversity. ‘Come Dine with me at Lukestone’ will be launched to create unforgettable dinner dates between our residents and relatives, recreating special memories of time spent in France, Italy, Spain or here in the UK. We will endeavour to create a special holiday ambience and exquisite dining experiences, supporting our dear residents to relive their fond memories and rekindle passions.


I have ambitious plans for Lukestone and strive to deliver a quality care setting with no boundaries on our aspirations. I plan for Lukestone to be recognised as one of the top providers of Dementia Care in Kent, and across the country, and want to bring my team to the next level of Dementia Nursing Care, where every individual excels with confidence and independence in managing every aspect of residents’ care needs. We will strive for industry recognition and awards for our team’s hard work and dedication and seek collaboration with national Dementia associations to ensure Lukestone is always at the forefront of new developments.

Recently I got a job offer at the hospital, but when reality kicked-in I realised that I couldn't leave Lukestone. Also, when you have a very understanding Manager it makes it very hard to leave.


Karen has been very caring and understanding when it comes to work. I am currently five months pregnant and as soon as I told Karen she was willing to put me on easier floors.


We have a very good team of staff who work well together which helps us to provide person-centred care."

"I retired three years ago and often visit my mother who has been a resident at Lukestone since 2019. I enquired about being a volunteer, which was a simple process where I could help in activities. I enjoy working within this area as I find it very rewarding when I can make residents smile when they are feeling low.


I can appreciate the commitment of the Carers and how hard they work with our residents. This gives me an insight and helps me understand the caring side within a Nursing Home. I feel that I can support relatives of other residents and can make them feel at ease. I offer reassurance that their loved ones are being cared for safely, which makes them feel happy that the Home is as it should be."
