Mum was admitted to Lukestone for assessment following several falls and the onset of dementia. This was my first experience of a care home and I was greeted by caring staff who looked after Mum leaving me with no doubts that she would be comfortable and safe. Mum has enjoyed all her meals and has never complained of being bored thanks to the lovely recreation team, Thank you Lukestone!

This home is so welcoming, there is always something going on to stimulate the residents. Any concerns you may have are dealt with and the care of the residents is faultless. As a visitor, I have been welcomed with a smile and offered a drink on arrival. A great home thanks to the management and caring happy staff.

the care Lukestone Care Centre residents receive for their diverse needs is excellent. My husband required nursing care and every member of staff, the nurses and especially the manager welcomed him with compassion. The care I received was excellent and I was updated on his well-being every day. During his short stay he enjoyed the socialising etc, was expertly nursed, cared for and finally passed away with dignity and at peace. I will be eternally grateful to everybody who made this possible. Thank you so very much.

Reply from Glenda Osmotherly, Director of Operations at Lukestone Care Centre

The manager and his staff team will be delighted to receive this heartfelt feedback. They work extremely hard to ensure they deliver the best care to all residents and that care always extends to families too. The compassion of course comes from kind hearts and empathy of which I know they have in abundance. Thank you for sharing your experience which may help others at their difficult time.

My husband was moved to Lukestone after a spell in hospital. I was extremely worried as I have always maintained that he would never go to a care home. Unfortunately, his lack of mobility meant it was taken out of my hands.
I can wholeheartedly say that the whole staff from management through to cooks and cleaners treat him with care, kindness and respect. He has also had a number of medical issues and the nurses have been outstanding.

It’s hard leaving him when I visit but made easier when I know he couldn’t be better cared for.

Many thanks for taking the time to give your feedback, I am so pleased that your experience and of course the experience for your husband has been a positive one. The staff do try their very best to care for residents and their families and it is great to know they are appreciated and that you have found the experience less daunting than expected. Take care.

Mum was a resident at Lukestone from 11/19 until 12/24. Throughout her time there, the team did everything possible to provide my mum with the best quality care and to deal with her OCD. This allowed my mum to feel safe and settled in what she considered her home.

Overall satisfaction. Staff are delightful, caring. Appearance of home has much improved. When using the 2nd floor shower I have needed to ask domestics to clean it before I could use it recent use I have noticed the cleanliness has improved.
Bedrooms are tastefully decorated with good choice of soft furnishings.

On seeing Mum's hot meals they look appetising but Mum has commented on hard carrots and peas.

From the time Mum entered Lukestone Care Centre to the day that she passed away, Mum was cared for with dignity, respect and love. She had nursing needs which the home met to a very consistent and high standard. This meant that Mum, who in the latter stages could not articulate her feelings, was always clean, comfortable and pain-free.
We are very grateful to every member of staff... office staff, maintenance staff, carers, nurses, managers and activity staff members who all work so hard to provide such a lovely atmosphere and home for their residents.

I would definitely recommend Lukestone to anyone considering placing their loved one there.

My mother-in-law was a resident in Lukestone for over 2 years with severe Alzheimer's and end-of-life care. She received excellent care. Her skin and hair were in good condition despite being bedbound for over a year. The nurses knew her personally and always spoke with genuine knowledge of her when I asked questions. The carers treated her (and all the residents I witnessed) with kindness, and gentleness and were hardworking. The manager and admin staff are also excellent and always make time for my queries and concerns.

Lukestone is a really excellent nursing home which I would recommend to anyone.

My mum has flourished living here since 2021. Covid was a challenging time for everyone but the care has always been excellent. Consistent communication from staff has made the transition for her and my family much easier. She is always clean, and comfortable and offered to participate in many stimulating activities such as theme days, trips out, karaoke, crafts, baking and games. They offer a wonderful food selection and combined with daily morning exercises has meant she is thriving both physically and mentally. My family and I always look forward to our weekly visits and the staff are always welcoming and kind often with many stories to tell from the week before. They treat her like she is their own family and I am grateful she was placed with such a lovely facility.

Very pleasant and helpful staff. Both nurses and carers are thoughtful, considerate and kind and treat residents with respect, and listen to family and friends' comments and suggestions.
Building layouts of older style with narrow passageways can be confusing for visitors and the transfer of non-mobile residents.

The food looks appetising and overall good care is maintained.

The care home staff have been very caring and supportive of both my mum and myself. The lengths the catering people go to, to cater for my mum's needs has been really impressive. Nothing seems like too much trouble so a big thank you to them. The activities staff have been fantastic and really attentive. The nursing staff have always kept me informed of any medical issues with my mum, this I've felt comforted by.

My father was transferred to Lukestone from hospital in October 2020. Unfortunately due to Covid restrictions we only saw him on 2 occasions. After this, the staff arranged WhatsApp video calls, then later on behind the perspex screen. Due to him having dementia we were unable to ask him if he was happy or any other questions regarding his stay. He always looked clean and were advised that he was eating well. The staff go to a lot of effort in arranging occasions like Christmas and Birthdays. The family liaison lady was our lifeline she is so caring and kind. Unfortunately, Dad passed away at the beginning of February and we never got to see him in his final hours. The only thing I would say as a negative is a funeral director and whether he would be cremated or buried should have been decided with the care home beforehand on his admission as a call at 2.25 am advising me of his passing then asking these questions, I felt was a little insensitive.

Reply from Karen Wilkins, Manager at Lukestone Care Centre

Meet the Team (4)

Russell Menoza
Russell MenozaJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2023

Hello, my name is Russell and I am the Home Manager of Lukestone Care Home. Caring for people has always been my passion, reflecting on my culture, beliefs and religious values. I strive to inspire my team to focus on the core values of care to achieve a deep understanding of Dementia and how it affects the lives and well-being of every resident.

Lukestone boasts some traditional Victorian features and has a very homely feel, with recent interior upgrades that have enhanced its cosy, warm atmosphere. We are known in the area for our excellent Dementia Care; Lukestone has always gained recognition from our stakeholders and our relatives provide very positive feedback after experiencing the delightful service and expert care we provide for their loved ones.

Our Home has a great location; nestled 10 minutes away from Maidstone town centre, five minutes to the nearest train station and just a few yards away from a bus stop, we are very accessible for commuters. We are situated close to an Anglican Church, and to Grange Moor Restaurant and Hotel – ideal for relaxation and accommodation for visiting relatives.

At Lukestone, we place high importance on respecting and valuing our team members and part of this involves empowering them with extensive development and training opportunities. I find this brings out everyone’s best and elevates individual self-confidence in providing tailored, person-centred care to our dear residents. Our OSCE Nurse programme has been an amazing success, whereby we develop our Health Care Assistants to become fully qualified Nurses, bringing added strength and deeper knowledge and understanding to our team.

I believe in being hands-on and I support and motivate my team to work hard, with determination, while making them feel valued. I strive to ensure our team members come to work happy and leave feeling fulfilled, knowing that they have shared their best, with the freedom they need to develop and lead. I aim to give my team every opportunity to express their views on how to improve the lives of our residents and make their respective roles rewarding. I also like to instil a sense of self-belief that we can all make positive changes and I inspire everyone to progress.

The close involvement of our residents’ families is also an important part of how we shape a person’s care plan; we strongly believe their contribution refines the success of our team and supports us in caring for our residents with dignity, compassion and respect during their time with us.

Two initiatives I am passionate about launching at our Home are our ‘Dementia Like Me’ programme and ‘Come Dine with me at Lukestone’. Our Dementia Like Me programme will aim to match each of our residents with a team member who shares their interests and hobbies, so they can enjoy spending time sharing the things they both love – watching movies, collecting memorabilia, a passion for the royal family, gardening and more. The programme will provide time and support to celebrate these passions together, or with other residents, team members and family members.

We also have plans to put in place a weekly special event in our dining room to mimic cuisines around the world, and for our residents and relatives to experience Lukestone’s diversity. ‘Come Dine with me at Lukestone’ will be launched to create unforgettable dinner dates between our residents and relatives, recreating special memories of time spent in France, Italy, Spain or here in the UK. We will endeavour to create a special holiday ambience and exquisite dining experiences, supporting our dear residents to relive their fond memories and rekindle passions.

I have ambitious plans for Lukestone and strive to deliver a quality care setting with no boundaries on our aspirations. I plan for Lukestone to be recognised as one of the top providers of Dementia Care in Kent, and across the country, and want to bring my team to the next level of Dementia Nursing Care, where every individual excels with confidence and independence in managing every aspect of residents’ care needs. We will strive for industry recognition and awards for our team’s hard work and dedication and seek collaboration with national Dementia associations to ensure Lukestone is always at the forefront of new developments.

Please come and visit Lukestone and see how we can provide the care your loved one deserves. Our team will be there to show you how we make positive changes in our residents’ lives, making their experiences rich and fulfilled. We don’t see the limits of Dementia, instead we see the profound vastness of life itself through the uniqueness of every individual – and strive every day to nurture and treasure our residents’ lives to make them special at Lukestone.

Please feel free to call me on 01622 755 821.

"When you love what you do, you tend to feel a sense of purpose and belonging and that's how I feel about Lukestone. I feel I am working with professionals that I can learn from.

Recently I got a job offer at the hospital, but when reality kicked-in I realised that I couldn't leave Lukestone. Also, when you have a very understanding Manager it makes it very hard to leave.

Karen has been very caring and understanding when it comes to work. I am currently five months pregnant and as soon as I told Karen she was willing to put me on easier floors.

We have a very good team of staff who work well together which helps us to provide person-centred care."

"I thoroughly enjoyed getting back into caring again, as I find it very rewarding and feel like I am giving back. I enjoy the company of the residents, sitting with them and hearing all their life stories from the past. I like to engage with the residents within activities and like to make them feel at home and well cared for."

Linda Hubble
Linda HubbleJob Title:Volunteer

"I retired three years ago and often visit my mother who has been a resident at Lukestone since 2019. I enquired about being a volunteer, which was a simple process where I could help in activities. I enjoy working within this area as I find it very rewarding when I can make residents smile when they are feeling low.

I can appreciate the commitment of the Carers and how hard they work with our residents. This gives me an insight and helps me understand the caring side within a Nursing Home. I feel that I can support relatives of other residents and can make them feel at ease. I offer reassurance that their loved ones are being cared for safely, which makes them feel happy that the Home is as it should be."
