Lukestone Care Centre in Maidstone specialise in providing nursing care for older people who have been diagnosed with Dementia or long-term mental health problems. With a highly qualified and caring team, the nurturing environment creates a home-from-home feel. The Home also employs a Physiotherapist to support residents with rehabilitation, including bespoke packages for day care or short-term placements. Physiotherapy services also help with improving peoples’ strength, avoiding or reducing falls, and improved overall well-being.

Lukestone cares for up to 42 residents, with single room accommodation, the majority of which have ensuite facilities. The Home has two lounges, a dining room, an onsite hair salon and a Dementia-friendly sensory garden which is used year-round and for special gardening projects.

Lukestone's Recreation and Well-being team members ensure residents have access to tailored activities and entertainment seven days a week, to suit each person’s hobbies and interests. Activities are designed for residents’ wellness, enjoyment and sense of well-being, on an individual and group basis. These include fun and lively themed days, seated exercise classes, and relaxing Namaste treatments such as gentle massage.

Well-known for their delicious food and expertise, the Lukestone catering team provides exceptional, nutritious meals and snacks to residents every day. Supported by Nellsar’s Head of Nutrition and Wellness, they recognise that nutrition and hydration are an integral part of good health and well-being.

Employing the Care Vision® digital care management system throughout the Home ensures that the entire care service delivery, recording and reporting systems are optimised and centred around residents and their personalised care.

Overall this is a good clean and enthusiastic care/nursing home. Staff turnover is frequent and can sometimes be frustrating particularly when relatives try to communicate existing issues regarding their loved one.

My mother died of dementia in the home. Staff were very supportive as the end drew near. The "end of life" care provided a dignified, peaceful and managed passing for my mother.

I stay all day from 12 noon, 7 days a week. I find the staff very very caring for every person. I leave the home when my husband is asleep. I am very impressed with the way the home is organised and run. It works as one happy team.

Mum has been in Lukestone since the start of December last year, and is now starting to settle in, has made a group of friends and takes part in activities provided. She is safe, warm and I know she has her medication regularly and good quality food and drink.

As the son of a resident, my brother and I felt that the level of care and genuine concern for his well-being was the best we could expect.


There were several initiatives worthy of note. He had very limited sight and mobility and could not talk coherently. Lukestone Care Centre utilised massage,

reiki, reflexology and physiotherapy and provided tactile objects. To our knowledge, none of these treatments were applied in his previous home.


The staff were friendly, approachable and diligent, and we never had cause for concern over his wellbeing when we were not in attendance. Our father's welfare was of the utmost importance to us, and the decision for his move to Lukestone Care Centre, was not taken lightly, yet we were very satisfied with the outcome and would have no hesitation in recommending any family in the same situation, to follow the same path.


We felt the staff were a credit to the facility and they have proved to be more than capable with the management that is currently in place.

My mum has been a resident for nearly three years. They have always provided a good level of care and also give a personal touch. My mum responds to them with kindness and although she can't talk anymore they talk to her and know what she needs. When things have not been done right (not often) they
are corrected quickly. We have no complaints. The manager is lovely and she keeps a tight ship.

My mum has been at Lukestone Care Centre for a couple of years now and I do not think I could have found a better place for her. The care given is outstanding. Although she is in the last stages of dementia she is still treated with the utmost dignity and care. She is treated as an individual, everyone
knows her name, her likes, her dislikes and her needs.
She is never unclean or sore, which considering she spends a long time in bed is excellent. All the staff work hard under an excellent management team.

The home is welcoming and staff are friendly and helpful. My grandmother is always treated with respect and dignity - when I leave I feel that I am leaving her in good hands. The staff have a hard job - I wouldn't underestimate this. I cannot ask for more than they do. We are very lucky. Thank you.

My Nan Irene was a resident here, until 3rd March this year when she sadly passed away.
The staff were brilliant with Nan right till the end. I was able to be with Nan in her last moments, and the staff were amazing. They were very understanding and one even broke down with us at the time. It was so
comforting to know they also cared so much. Nan had a lovely room with all she needed. They even allowed us to bring Nan in her favourite meal, fish and chips. It's little things that make a huge difference.

My wife has been in three other care/nursing homes. Her room is very comfortable. The lounge is easily the best of the four care homes she has been in. Roomy, bright and comfortable. My wife is the only vegetarian resident, but her needs are fully met. The staff are mainly young but have so much patience
and care for even the most troublesome resident. As in all business, the manager sets the standard and here it is very good.

Mum has been at Lukestone Care Centre for 10 months now. We are very happy with the care and support she has received from the excellent staff. All of her needs are being met and with any problems, no matter how small, the nurse in charge phones to the room to inform me and to discuss a way forward.

My husband entered Lukestone in December 2015 he had dementia. He was treated with dignity and respect from day one. He died last week. The care and nursing staff were wonderful. They allowed me to stay by providing me with a room to rest in and my food. I was there at the end.

Hello, my name is Russell and I am the Home Manager of Lukestone Care Home. Caring for people has always been my passion, reflecting on my culture, beliefs and religious values. I strive to inspire my team to focus on the core values of care to achieve a deep understanding of Dementia and how it affects the lives and well-being of every resident.


Lukestone boasts some traditional Victorian features and has a very homely feel, with recent interior upgrades that have enhanced its cosy, warm atmosphere. We are known in the area for our excellent Dementia Care; Lukestone has always gained recognition from our stakeholders and our relatives provide very positive feedback after experiencing the delightful service and expert care we provide for their loved ones.


Our Home has a great location; nestled 10 minutes away from Maidstone town centre, five minutes to the nearest train station and just a few yards away from a bus stop, we are very accessible for commuters. We are situated close to an Anglican Church, and to Grange Moor Restaurant and Hotel ­– ideal for relaxation and accommodation for visiting relatives.


At Lukestone, we place high importance on respecting and valuing our team members and part of this involves empowering them with extensive development and training opportunities. I find this brings out everyone’s best and elevates individual self-confidence in providing tailored, person-centred care to our dear residents. Our OSCE Nurse programme has been an amazing success, whereby we develop our Health Care Assistants to become fully qualified Nurses, bringing added strength and deeper knowledge and understanding to our team.


I believe in being hands-on and I support and motivate my team to work hard, with determination, while making them feel valued. I strive to ensure our team members come to work happy and leave feeling fulfilled, knowing that they have shared their best, with the freedom they need to develop and lead. I aim to give my team every opportunity to express their views on how to improve the lives of our residents and make their respective roles rewarding. I also like to instil a sense of self-belief that we can all make positive changes and I inspire everyone to progress.


The close involvement of our residents’ families is also an important part of how we shape a person’s care plan; we strongly believe their contribution refines the success of our team and supports us in caring for our residents with dignity, compassion and respect during their time with us.


Two initiatives I am passionate about launching at our Home are our ‘Dementia Like Me’ programme and ‘Come Dine with me at Lukestone’. Our Dementia Like Me programme will aim to match each of our residents with a team member who shares their interests and hobbies, so they can enjoy spending time sharing the things they both love – watching movies, collecting memorabilia, a passion for the royal family, gardening and more. The programme will provide time and support to celebrate these passions together, or with other residents, team members and family members.


We also have plans to put in place a weekly special event in our dining room to mimic cuisines around the world, and for our residents and relatives to experience Lukestone’s diversity. ‘Come Dine with me at Lukestone’ will be launched to create unforgettable dinner dates between our residents and relatives, recreating special memories of time spent in France, Italy, Spain or here in the UK. We will endeavour to create a special holiday ambience and exquisite dining experiences, supporting our dear residents to relive their fond memories and rekindle passions.


I have ambitious plans for Lukestone and strive to deliver a quality care setting with no boundaries on our aspirations. I plan for Lukestone to be recognised as one of the top providers of Dementia Care in Kent, and across the country, and want to bring my team to the next level of Dementia Nursing Care, where every individual excels with confidence and independence in managing every aspect of residents’ care needs. We will strive for industry recognition and awards for our team’s hard work and dedication and seek collaboration with national Dementia associations to ensure Lukestone is always at the forefront of new developments.

"When you love what you do, you tend to feel a sense of purpose and belonging and that's how I feel about Lukestone. I feel I am working with professionals that I can learn from.


Recently I got a job offer at the hospital, but when reality kicked-in I realised that I couldn't leave Lukestone. Also, when you have a very understanding Manager it makes it very hard to leave.


Karen has been very caring and understanding when it comes to work. I am currently five months pregnant and as soon as I told Karen she was willing to put me on easier floors.

I can appreciate the commitment of the Carers and how hard they work with our residents. This gives me an insight and helps me understand the caring side within a Nursing Home. I feel that I can support relatives of other residents and can make them feel at ease.
