I feel very lucky that my husband was able to stay at the home. Infact it made it such an enjoyable experience I will miss the staff very much. My husband was a resident at the home for one year and all through that time he was treated with love and the highest care and respect.

My Aunt was a very independent and mobile person until she broke her hip. After hospitalisation, she moved from her own home to this nursing home.
Since being there she spends 95% of her time in bed in her own room. She has not been mobilised at all.
Every time I call the home it's difficult to
get through and when they do answer the phone they seem very reticent to answer questions or provide information.
Very disappointed.
Reply from Renata Hatch, Manager at Pilgrims Way Nursing HomeWe were very upset to read your comments about our nursing home. During these unprecedented last few months, my team delivered exceptional care under immense pressure and ensured your auntie received the best possible care and was kept safe from the COVID 19 virus. We found your feedback very misleading and hurtful as we have been delivering the highest possible personal care to your auntie and as a result, she has settled in well with us for the past 11 months. You are welcome at any time to send me an e-mail or come and see me in person to discuss any issues regarding your auntie.

When my father needed to be discharged from hospital as part of his palliative care package we had to quickly agree on a suitable nursing home. His condition meant that options were limited and our ‘choice’ came down to Pilgrims Way only. On admission, it was clear that we had found the most suitable
home for him. After six weeks in hospital, the haircut and fingernails trim on the day of arrival was such a reassuring act for my father and the first indication of the level of care he was to receive during his stay. I continued to be impressed by all the staff who were unfailingly supportive and caring. The manager provides real direction and her commitment to quality end-of-life care made a huge difference for my father and my family.

My wife, after a stroke, was never able to speak and was totally paralysed on the right-hand side. This caused her immense problems but the efforts of all the staff were brilliant in dealing with them professionally and sympathetically throughout the months stay.
Her family appreciated it and although
unable to speak up and communicate, I think she also did.

All staff appeared to treat my wife with kindness and dignity at all times. This was made difficult by my wife's complete inability to communicate but staff showed patience. My wife was doubly incontinent, could not move and required 2 carers to attend to her needs. She also required feeding and help
with drinking.
Staff gave my wife encouragement but respected her wishes at all times and showed a positive attitude.

I don't think we could have found a better home for my mother's last few months. Staff were always helpful, caring and very cheerful. They always made family welcome. They made it a lot easier for my late father when visiting mother, joking with him and keeping his spirits up as much as the residents.
All
in all very happy with the nursing home.

Dad was placed in Pilgrims Way after being discharged from hospital. He is bed bound with Parkinson's and recently suffered a stroke and my mum was no longer able to care for him at home. A very stressful time has been made much easier seeing the great care he is receiving. We have total confidence
in the staff, dad is happy and settled. The manager is excellent and always has time to talk through any concerns. Highly recommend this place.

My uncle came to Pilgrims Way after a long stay in hospital. He sadly had dementia and after a fall at home, this condition got much worse. All of the staff at the home were brilliant with him as a resident and with us, his relatives, nothing was too much trouble. Can't thank you all enough. He sadly
past away and is now at rest.

My friend has only been here a week so I cannot give too much information but on what I've seen so far, everything seems excellent. Friendly, caring staff. Clean and tidy everywhere. First impressions are very good. I would need to review again to be more knowledgeable. I cannot answer the management
question as I've had no contact at this stage. Value - I can only say from this very new admittance.

As soon as my husband and I walked through the doors of Pilgrims Way one Sunday afternoon we felt welcome, comfortable and were put at ease by the staff. They were friendly and answered all our questions. We both knew that this was the home that my 94-year-old mum would be happy and well looked after.
Mum has only been there a short while but already we are very happy with our decision. We feel the staff and management are helpful, caring and they are concerned for their residents' welfare and wellbeing.

As soon as we met the staff, I was impressed by this caring attitude towards the resident, ensuring all our concerns were answered satisfactorily. My mother-in-law has only been there a month or so, but has settled in very well which give us peace of mind for her continued welfare. An exceptional standard

My mum came into the nursing home after a short stay in hospital. All the staff and the manager could not have been nicer or more accommodating. Mum was very poorly but did rally the first week with the care and attention provided. I visited a lot and everyone was lovely regardless of when I arrived
or departed. Mum clearly had a few favourites and always managed a smile when they were around. After a long illness, I instantly knew Mum would be looked after here and it was a massive relief to all those that loved her. Sadly Mum passed after a few weeks but it’s a great comfort to us that she seemed at peace and cared for in her last weeks. Many thanks to you all.

My mum was admitted in August 2016 and just passed away this month. We had a special holiday planned to celebrate both our forthcoming 70th birthdays and ruby wedding. We sent photos which were printed and shown to Mum via the staff. Her eyesight was poorly but the staff couldn't be nicer and caring,
nothing too much trouble. If Mum wanted something, such as a trifle, one would bring it in for her. The room she had was lovely, nice furniture and staff always greeted you with a lovely smile. If at any time you had a problem it was dealt with promptly and sorted.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.352)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.352) out of 10 for Pilgrims Way Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 34 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.352 for Pilgrims Way Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (251 Excellents x 5) + (103 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (33 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 398 Ratings = 4.352
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Pilgrims Way Nursing Home is based on 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 76 registered maximum number of service users is 15.2, which has been reached with 31 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
