My mum spent two weeks at Winchester House for respite care following a 19-night stay in Medway Hospital. She enjoyed her time there, and all the staff were very kind and compassionate to her. She was able to get the rest and care she needed to enable her to gain her strength, and mobility and be well enough to go back to her own home. I wouldn't hesitate to place her there again should the circumstances arise.

Staff were quick to learn names. I was positively encouraged to use the call button at night to get drinking water. The television really needed a manual, but everything else was intuitive. Staff put themselves out to accommodate late returns from hospital, much appreciated.

Overall: Excellent.

Amazing team at Winchester House Care Centre. My mother was well cared for in her last few weeks of life. Everyone who visited Mum had good words regarding the home and staff who made sure we were all looked after too and we can not thank them enough.

My father entered respite care after years of trying to avoid care homes and was quite worried about how he may be looked after. These worries quickly disappeared due to the lovely and caring environment at Barchester Winchester House Care Centre.
His initial assessment was detailed and was aimed at giving him the best care possible, this included finding out what he likes to eat and what he liked to be called.
My father has always been extremely happy staying at the home, on every occasion and has only expressed how well he is looked after. The carers feel like family to him and the other residents like friends.

I couldn't recommend Winchester House enough.

My dad was placed here last November after frequent falls and unable to stay at home anymore.

The home is always clean and the decor is very tasteful. There is a menu available each day with fantastic choices to choose from with an option to choose something off the menu. I cannot speak highly enough of the care and support that has been given to my dad, all the staff are so friendly and happy! A must in my opinion. My dad is really happy and he has a good structured day with routine, there is also a timetable of events throughout the week that range from boat trips, crafts, games, singing and entertainment. There is always something to do. Staff are always available to answer any questions and are very knowledgeable in their roles. I was quite worried when Dad first went into residential care but I can honestly say I never worry and feel 100% confident about his welfare, safety and that his day-to-day needs are met.

My brother and I arranged respite care for my dad as we were all going abroad for my daughter's wedding. Prior to his admission, my brother and I visited the home to look around. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. Dad also went there for lunch to meet the staff and residents before his stay.
On the day of his admission, everyone welcomed Dad and us. The staff could not have been more helpful, making Dad feel safe and comfortable.
We were in regular contact with the staff while we were away. Dad was so well cared for and staff kept us fully informed on how he was.

I cannot thank every staff member enough for the support they have given us, as a family, and how they looked after Dad. It gave us peace of mind while we were away. We would recommend Barchester Winchester House Care Centre to anyone looking for a home which will care for their loved ones.

The family's experience has generally been very good. We are very happy that Mum is in a safe environment. The staff seem friendly and kind and always keen to help if asked.

My only criticism is that the furniture and carpet in Mum's room are rather dated, albeit still serviceable.

The minute you walk into Barchester Winchester House Care Home, you feel like you are walking into a five-star hotel, you’re greeted by very happy, welcoming and helpful staff.
The whole care home is decorated and furnished to a high standard. All of the corridors, community areas and furnishings are spotless.
My mum has been a dementia resident at Winchester House for the last five months and the care and attention she receives from the carers and nursing staff is excellent, they are all so dedicated. It took Mum a while to settle in but the staff are all so understanding and patient they helped her greatly. She is now much happier. Her room is nicely furnished, warm and is kept tidy and cleaned daily. The food is of a high standard.
I feel very happy leaving my mum knowing that she is safe and well looked after.

Winchester House is a well-run, professional and happy environment. All staff, from management, nursing, carers, cleaners etc., are all very professional, happy, helpful and caring.

We arrived at Barchester Winchester House Care Centre with some trepidation as we had pre-conceived ideas of care homes.
This was quickly dispelled by the staff at reception who were friendly and helpful. A great front end to a business. This care and attention to detail were noted throughout the induction process. Help was given at every turn and no question was too much to be answered fully.
With a month gone by the initial enthusiasm to be a person-centred organisation has not diminished.
The staff are kind, caring and understanding.
As a husband, I have to thank the staff for their reassurance and help in this difficult time.

Thank you.

My wife has resided at Barchester Winchester House Care Centre for seventeen years, she is now 64. During her stay, her dignity has always been maintained. Any medical issue has swiftly been identified, resolved and concluded with minimal stress and disruption to my wife.
My wife is always kept clean with frequent showers and/or washing and kept odour-free with regular pad changes and bed linen. The food and drink provided are of a very high standard with lots of choice. My wife is a private person but the activities team encourages her to take part in certain activities. She has monthly visits to a local church for prayer cake and coffee. Also, have musicians and plays visiting the home for residents' entertainment.
My daughter and I are very pleased with the aforementioned high standard being maintained all these years which has certainly enhanced my wife's quality of life, enjoyment and general well-being.

We would certainly recommend this home to anyone if you intend to place your loved one into care.

My mother is over 98 years old. I think she suffers from a lack of interaction. I am the only family member and visit as often as I can (three/four times a week). My mother is bed-bound and therefore takes no part in any of the activities. Her eyesight and hearing are fading. Her only remaining enjoyment is her television which I admit she has quite loud. Carers frequently turn the volume down. When I have visited, I have seen the food left on her table but Mum is still reclined in her bed and unable to reach or cut the food. Meals have been left whilst she is asleep so that when she wakes up it is cold and inedible.

Hi, my name is Debbie, and I currently work at Winchester House as a front-of-house receptionist. I have worked at Winchester House for 8 years in a variety of roles. These include kitchen assistant and housekeeping.

When I first came to work, my biggest concern was how I would communicate with residents, having not had much experience in a care setting.

If I have learnt anything about myself, it is that I can communicate with anybody. I get to know the residents, families and all the care professionals.

I have finally found my perfect role.
