Barchester Winchester House Care Centre

My mother is bedridden due to arthritis, on a pureed diet although she eats virtually nothing and suffers from dementia. The staff who are friendly and helpful, look after her well. The care is documented and they are aware of the need for hydration. Someone deals with her facial hair and paints her fingernails which is appreciated. She is kept as comfortable as possible and is well monitored. Her room is well proportioned with views over the garden. The overall impression is of a superior hotel. Unfortunately, my mother is unable to appreciate the excellent menu and various activities but I am glad she stays there.

We have found this home to be very good. The services provided are excellent and the staff are lovely and very caring. They provide good activities for the residents and we are encouraged to treat it as Mum's home, sometimes we forget and they say "This is her home". I would highly recommend this home.

My 97-year-old mother has been a resident at Winchester House Care Centre for 15 months. She has been lovingly cared for since day one. Having recently been hospitalised for ten days, the outstanding care and attention given to her on her return to Winchester House have ensured her health and well-being are back to 'normal'. The staff have gone above and beyond. I cannot thank or praise them enough.

My dad went into Winchester House three years ago. He has advanced vascular dementia and is in a specialist unit - Riverview. He has never failed to be treated with kindness, dignity and respect. Staff are super friendly, thoughtful and genuinely care. Now that we are through the worst of Covid, the home has invited families in to special event days such as a lovely afternoon to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee last year. You are welcomed as visitors at any time. It is clear there has been a lot of investment in the home, particularly in social areas which are decorated beautifully including a coffee bar. Some rooms need a bit of a lick of paint but to be honest, this is not an issue for us and I am sure will be done in time. What is important is the people - from the wonderful welcome at the front desk to the absolutely fantastic carers, support staff and nurses who look after my dad. Everyone is friendly and kind. As one said to me recently - we are your dad's family too.

My mum has been a resident of Cathedral Square, for a little while. From the onset of my mum coming here, the nurses and staff members welcomed my mum and her family with such kindness. Nothing was ever any trouble, they went beyond above. The staff on this ward are amazing! They really are. My mum's final days during her passing away was unbelievable with their kindness and warmth.

The whole team including the housekeeping, laundry staff and front of house made you feel like you were part of one big family.

If you are thinking of sending your loved ones to live in a Barchester Care Home, I would highly recommend you do. The care they will receive will ensure your loved ones end their days in a safe and caring home. It feels more like a hotel than a care home.

The staff, carers, cleaners and reception are brilliant. The staff member on reception, and many other staff whom are in the home are fabulous. I would not hesitate in recommending.

I have been so impressed by the facilities and care provided for my dad and noticed an improvement in his general well-being almost immediately. The residents are cared for as individuals and made to feel that this really is their home. It is obvious that staff genuinely care for the people here and as family members, we have felt that extends to us too.

I have found Winchester House to have excellent services. My mum is very happy and the care they give her is brilliant. The staff are very welcoming and always happy, nothing is too much trouble.

I would like to say that Winchester House is a lovely care home, the lady in Reception is very welcoming and always smiling, The activities staff, do a fantastic job as well as all the care staff and nurses.

Mum has been a resident at Winchester House for 9 months now and I can honestly say the care she has received from the very first day has been excellent. Mum was moved here from hospital on Christmas Eve last year. I am her only child and had been her carer 7 days a week for the past 18 years, so the whole situation of not looking after her anymore was very upsetting, but the staff have been very loving and supportive to Mum and myself. Mum has advanced mixed dementia and is bedbound and her care needs are being met above and beyond. Everyone is so friendly and kind, from the time you step through the front door and nothing is too much trouble. I would highly recommend anyone who is looking for a care home to come and see Winchester House.

On arrival I was made to feel extremely welcome and cared for by all members of staff. My family felt the same level of welcome too. My room is comfortable and I can call on staff for assistance any time, which is very reassuring. We are all made to feel that this is our home. there are many activities to join in with and I've made friends.

Cannot speak highly enough about this care home. We visited many homes while my father was in hospital and this was way beyond any other, so he moved in straight from hospital. He was in an incredibly poor state, but after several weeks of the most fantastic care, we could not believe how well he became, both physically and mentally. The staff truly went above and beyond to provide the very best care he could ever wish for. From being in hospital on end-of-life care, he is now enjoying life at Winchester House as independently as he is able. My sister had also been a resident for a few years with multiple sclerosis and again the care and love was fantastic, she sadly passed away there, but was surrounded by love from every staff member. I cannot fault any member of staff, every single one has a smile on their face for residents and visitors.

From my brief visit, I got the impression that all the residents benefitted from very kind and flexible care. The accommodation was pleasant, appropriately equipped and properly maintained.

Dad was at the care home for respite, I was very unsure about how dad would respond to a care home stay. The staff made dad and the family feel at home straight away. The staff got dad eating and drinking and encouraged him to use a walker. I didn't think he would walk again. Thank you so much for all the support you have given dad.

Difficult start through confusion and urine infection. My husband became aggressive, but the staff gradually got to know him, and things got a lot better, and we, as a family, became more comfortable about placing him in their care. He has now settled in. Sometimes find his clothes missing, even with clearly labelled clothes. I believe he is now well cared for, and the staff are very considerate of his needs. I believe he is now quite happy there.

Notwithstanding the fact that I would much rather be able to care for my mother at home, I am simply unable to do so. I am generally happy with the care and support that she currently receives. It is reassuring to know that the relevant qualified people are on hand when Mum needs them. My only slight negative observation up to now is that her room could at times be cleaner/tidier.

Excellent care here, could not wish for a better place for my mum to have been cared for. the staff here were more willing to go above and beyond to accommodate the amount of family that visited my mum on her last day. The level of sympathy towards us and the level of care that they showed was of a high standard. I wish this was the 1st home my mum was placed in she would have loved it.
