My mum has been a resident at the Withens for over 4 years. During that time she has received a very good level of nursing care appropriate to her needs. I am able to visit at any time of the day, and always receive a warm welcome. An added bonus is their onsite catering and freshly prepared food and
cakes. The staff are considerate and compassionate, and always approachable. The home itself is not too big and has a nice, homely feel.

Always receive friendly welcome from staff and at reception on arrival. Although my mother is bedridden and in advanced stage of vascular dementia she is monitored regularly by carers and nurses. Also I am very impressed that she is never left out if there is a special event or entertainment happening
Mum is visited in her room by singers, etc. My sisters and I are confident that Mum is being looked after at the Withens.
Reply from Lee Cunningham, General Manager at Withens Nursing HomeThank you for your lovely review, we are so pleased to hear that you feel Mum is cared for well and this gives you as a family some comfort that Mum also receives quality lifestyle engagements in her room.
Many thanks

I feel very happy about the management of care in what is often a difficult situation. Call bells are answered in good time and they try to communicate with my relative. They have excellent chairs which allow patients to get into the lounge for company and activities.

My Mum was taken into Withens last week and I want to thank them for all they are doing to make her comfortable and welcome. We had a wonderful first impression when we met the Manager in hospital and were so relieved to see the home was exactly as they described. The friendly, professional team answered
all our questions and you can tell they are very person-centred, getting to know what my Mum needs and wants, and it's very inclusive - if you can't come to the activities, they can come to you, so no one is left out. We are grateful to you all for making a tough time a little easier.
Reply from Lee Cunningham, General Manager at Withens Nursing HomeThank you for your kind words, myself and the team here at Withens are really pleased that mum's experience of coming into a nursing home has been such a positive experience from assessment at the hospital. It is also heartening to hear that your and your family's experience has been positive and made a tough time easier for you all.

My mum was taken into the Withens Nursing Home in February. They have been amazing with her. I couldn't have asked for better care. They have been so supportive of myself as well, which has really helped me cope with the whole situation. Having been her sole carer for seven years, it was very hard initially
but the staff there made it possible. I can't thank them all enough.
Reply from Lee Cunningham, General Manager at Withens Nursing HomeThank you for your kind review, we are so pleased that Mum has settled so well here at Withens. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. We were offered coffee or tea whilst our friend was receiving some personal care. We were then allowed in to see her. She seemed content enough. We know that she is awaiting a bigger room which will hopefully be lighter and more airy. There was only one chair
in the room and it seemed no spares. The interior of the home needs a bit of a paint and maintenance job. It is situated in a beautiful setting though and easy for us to find.
Reply from Lee Cunningham, General Manager at Withens Nursing HomeThank you for your lovely review, Amanda, we are happy you felt a friendly and welcoming reception on your arrival to Withens. Thank you for your feedback regarding chairs and the overall decor. we are due to be redecorating over the coming weeks/months to improve the brightness and overall maintenance of our home for our residents and visitors. We look forward to your feedback once the decorating has been completed.

Mum suffers with Lewy bodies dementia and Parkinson's disease, is unable to walk and does require a lot of care. The staff are very understanding of the conditions and symptoms that come with these diseases.
The home is small, friendly and very homely which is exactly what we wanted for Mum.

My uncle was not at Withens for long unfortunately as he passed away, however, I was very happy with both the management team and the nursing and care staff. They were all very caring and helpful, the home is clean and well cared for and he had a lovely room overlooking the garden. Cannot fault it,
and would recommend this home to anyone looking for a home for their elderly relatives.

My brother was treated magnificently at Withens Nursing Home, I cannot thank all the staff for their care enough. I will highly recommend this caring home and the wonderful staff (including domestics and kitchen staff). The food was amazing and the staff were always happy and did everything they could
to help you with anything. When you leave a loved one to the care of home... this is the one to leave them, you will have peace of mind.

My husband has Lewy body dementia and many morbidities. He needs help to walk to the toilet in the room and wheelchair to other areas. The management is excellent in every way! He has been on an assessment bed since April. The staff have been so lovely in making him feel welcome. Nothing is too much
trouble. The home is in a lovely location and near to where I live. It is clean to immaculate! I cannot fault the home or the staff. They are incredible in all they do!

My mother has been in Withens Nursing Home for three weeks now following a lengthy stay in hospital. I can't fault what I have seen of the home, it is small and friendly and all of the staff seem super helpful and caring. I have spoken to the manager on a number of occasions and he always has time to
talk and the front office manager is friendly and welcoming. My mum is being very well cared for and seems happy and settled.

My mother-in-law has been at Withens since the beginning of February and I can honestly say I cannot speak highly enough of the home and the staff. It is such a caring and friendly environment, you can tell straight away how much the residents are cared for. There seems to be plenty of activities going
on for the residents. I know Mum is safe and well cared for. Thank you all for all you do, such amazing, caring people.
The only criticism I have is the parking, the home holds countless meets, this results in the car park being full, relatives visiting the home have to park in the community hall car park approximately quarter of a mile away. My thoughts are, why don’t all attending the meetings park in the community car park, freeing off spaces for relatives visiting their loved ones.
Reply from Lee Cunningham, General Manager at Withens Nursing HomeThank you, David, for your lovely review, we are glad Mum is happy here at Withens and feels safe and well cared for. I note the care parking is limited here at Withens, we have had one meeting at Withens this year and the car park being full at times is other relatives and loved ones visiting their loved ones.

My mum has now been at Withens for four months and I and my family are very pleased with the care and attention that she gets. All the staff know her by name and tell me what a lovely lady she is and always ready with a smile. I can tell that Mum likes everybody who cares for her as she is always blowing
kisses to them and thanks them all the time.
Mum is now in a very pleasant room with a massive window which overlooks the back garden so I'm very happy about that.
I find all the staff extremely kind and caring, the Business Manager has been very helpful when I have spoken to her concerning Mum's care.

Mum has only been at Withens for just under two weeks but in that time I have found the staff to be very friendly and caring.
Her room, although smaller than I would have liked, is very nice and clean.
I'm sure Mum will be happy there as she is looked after by the caring staff.
I chose Withens as
all reviews were very positive and I only live nearby.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.486)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.486) out of 10 for Withens Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 31 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.486 for Withens Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (233 Excellents x 5) + (85 Goods x 4) + (31 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 360 Ratings = 4.486
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Withens Nursing Home is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 33 registered maximum number of service users is 6.6, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
