The care that has been provided to my mother over the time that she resided in the care home cannot be faulted. The carers are kind, considerate and passionate about the care that is provided to their residents.
The end of life care that was provided was given with great compassion and empathy.

My mother was only resident for short while, receiving palliative care. Her room was freshly decorated, extremely clean and with a beautiful view. The building is well maintained and in a lovely location. When we visited to view the home for the first time we immediately felt at ease and reassured.
The senior who showed us round was friendly and had great empathy, we were also impressed that she had been working at the home for many years. As a family we were always welcomed and updated by all staff and the nurse on duty. Like all nursing homes during this awful pandemic there has been some very hard and heart-breaking times. During my mother's passing I experienced acts of individual kindness from several staff members that went above and beyond and was most appreciated.

Plus points:- Caring staff, excellent food. Great kitchen staff. Long term carers great. Minus points:- Dirty, understaffed, too many agency staff. No trips, not enough one to one care. Not enough interaction. Not enough staff. Empty promises and no improvements made. Garden/conservatory not used. No
bath/shower in 5 months.
Reply from Jasmeet Rai, Associate Director at Withens Nursing HomeIt was heartening to read the lovely comments about our caring staff & great kitchen team, & we will be sure to pass them on. We have a strong core team of dedicated staff who love looking after our residents that has been further bolstered by some new recruits.
Our dedicated Activities Organiser hosts both group & individual events and some of our trips planned for later in the year include a seaside trip and boat trip. Our local community, especially the schools, are also an integral part of life at Withens.
Withens has a variety of bathroom/shower facilities to cater to the different needs of our residents. In addition, we have a lovely Housekeeping Team who ensure the home is cleaned to a very high standard. Nobody has ever drawn attention to any specific issues with cleanliness and we would, of course, look into them immediately should they be identified to ensure any shortfall was remedied at once. We continually strive to improve on the high-quality care we provide.

I am writing this review with optimism about the future of The Withens. Unfortunately, I have had several issues so far - cleanliness, staff shortages, personal care and the overall running of the home. There now appears to be big changes and improvements - let's hope it does actually get better.

My husband has been in this care home for almost 7 months with dementia and I found the staff are cheerful and helpful. Although he is immobile, he enjoys his meals and eats them all. Every time when I visit him the staff are friendly and helpful.

When searching for a suitable care home with 24-hour nursing for my mum The Withens Nursing Home stood out from the others we viewed due to the friendliness of the team and cleanliness of the home. The whole home team including managers, nurses and care staff through to the kitchen, laundry and cleaning
staff have been very kind, helpful and supportive to my mum and family during what is a very difficult time.

We visit on a regular basis and always find staff working throughout the home. We are asked on every visit if there are any concerns or problems. All in all, we feel reassured that our mother is being well looked after.

The staff are always helpful and friendly. My mum appears comfortable and well cared for. The food is very good. The medical and nursing staff are making sure mum is not in pain and talked to me realistically and kindly about the care options. I really appreciate this - at this stage of life comfort
and dignity is essential, whilst a low cholesterol diet is not ... Bravo.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.507)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.507) out of 10 for Withens Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 30 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.507 for Withens Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (225 Excellents x 5) + (86 Goods x 4) + (25 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (7 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 345 Ratings = 4.507
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Withens Nursing Home is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 33 registered maximum number of service users is 6.6, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
