From the first time I came here, not one person here come up to me and said "Hello, you must be the resident's partner", which would mean a lot to me. My partner would like a haircut and his beard shaved.

Reply from Christine Hamilton, Home Manager at Brookfield Care Home

I do remember one of the activity team came to say hello to you as you signed in and I am sorry that you didn't feel this was adequate. If your experience relates to the dementia floor then I apologise. We will ensure a hair and beard appointment is made. We will strive to get these things sorted upon your next visit.

I have found the staff friendly and caring. The building is bright and welcoming, although the bedrooms are rather small. However, as there are various activities on offer, residents do not need to spend all the time in their rooms. The small dining rooms are very much nicer than a large, noisy hall. Residents who require wheelchairs (and are not demanding) may sometimes feel a little frustrated that they can't go where they want when they want. On the whole, Brookfield seems quite homely.

Reply from Christine Hamilton, Home Manager at Brookfield Care Home

Many thanks for the review. We are looking to source more wheelchairs so we can accommodate more residents.

Review from Carolyn J (Daughter of Resident) published on 21 July 2023 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Mum has lived at Brookfield Care Home since February 2023. They supported us before she moved in with a tour, and answering loads of questions. On the day of moving in, the handyman was extremely helpful as were all the staff. The staff are exceptional - nothing is too much trouble, and the consistency of care and attention is wonderful. Mum took a few weeks to settle but is contented and happy, and well looked after. On noticing that she was losing a bit of weight after moving in (normal apparently), they monitored it weekly until she started to put it back on. A few pieces of clothing have gone missing and of course there are always a few niggles, but overall I can't fault the place. We initially were disappointed that the rooms were not fully ensuite (with showers), but actually it means we are now sure Mum is having a shower because someone has to take her! Thank you Brookfield for taking such good care of our mum, which means we know she is safe and happy.

Review from A W (Regular Volunteer) published on 13 July 2023 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

As a volunteer, I see kindness and good humour demonstrated by carers and nursing staff. The creative activities facilitated by the activities team are imaginative and inclusive. My involvement is mainly with the regular Thursday church service and I see residents who appreciate this spiritual input and in particular respond to the opportunity to sing hymns and worship together. This is an aspect of Brookfield which I feel is particularly important.

Mum is very content at Brookfield Care Home. She's well looked after, the food is good and the activities are amazing. She has a nice room and there are several communal areas she can spend time in. She's made friends there. She particularly likes the Methodist background, the regular visits from the chaplain and the weekly service. For me and my sisters, it is wonderful to know she is safe and looked after by caring, kind and attentive staff. The building is not perfect but that matters much less than the quality of care, which is excellent. The staff are very attentive to small feedback points that I've brought up and are always happy to answer my questions. We are very very happy that we chose Brookfield.

First impressions are good but need more attention to clothes going missing every week, I asked about his clothes today, as he hasn't got a lot of clothes in his wardrobe or drawers. Some of the staff are really great. Since covid, I've not had a chance to see around the place. Would be nice to be able to discuss things a lot more. I know staff is short but at times, it would help to be involved.

I can't thank all at Brookfield Care Home enough for all the wonderful care that they provide for my mum. She was recently classified as end-of-life after having a severe chest infection and was on oxygen and antibiotics. With all the staff's love and care, mum is now not on the end-of-life danger list. Their love, care and quick action was amazing! Love them all.

My dad was very unhappy here. He had lots of unwitnessed falls and a fight with another resident which again was unwitnessed. He eventually died of Covid. The care home failed to keep it out. I am left with no happy memories. Perfunctory care at best.

Very caring atmosphere. Nothing too much trouble to any of the staff - all very helpful and friendly. My brother appreciates the Christian ethos. Administration in the house and at MHA Head Office very good. All staff have been so helpful in facilitating phone and video contacts with my brother. Although care home activities have been necessarily restricted over 2020, I'm very impressed by the activities which normally take place. Thank you!
