My mum has been on poppy ward for a number of years. The staff are respectful my mum is well looked after and generally seems quite happy. The cleaing staff on poppy are really nice and my mum gets on really well with them. My dad was also on poppy ward and could be a difficult person to deal with at
times but the staff were really good with him he has since passed away and they were all very respectful to him and us as family.

It is a scary thing moving a relative into a care home, but I know it is the right decision to be at The Meadows. My father chose it and although he still finds things that aren't right for him, I think the staff have gone out of their way to get to know him, his hobbies, humour and his needs (which
are sometimes quite demanding). Thank you for helping him settle and supporting him so efficiently.
Reply from Helen Dearing, On behalf of the team at The Meadows

Thank you for your kind yet honest words about our home and the experience of moving a loved one into a care home. We are so grateful your father chose us and it's been fantastic getting to know him and ensuring we provide the best person-centred care for him. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do him, we'd be happy to assist.

My mother lived at the Meadows for 2 years up to her death in June 2025. During this time she required a lot of personal care and assistance. Mum had not wanted to move into a care home but she was made very welcome and settled quickly. Our family were very pleased with the care and respect she was
shown. We also found the team were very responsive to any suggestions we made and her care plan was adapted to her specific needs and wishes. The nursing and care teams really got to know her and her preferences for what she liked to eat and drink, the clothes she liked to wear and the TV/radio programmes and activities she enjoyed.
From my point of view I was always made to feel welcome when I visited. The garden and first floor balcony are a real asset enabling visitors and residents to enjoy the outdoors. More generally the recent refurbishment has improved the facilities but it is the management, nursing and care teams who make the home the happy and positive place it is.

Mom moved to The Meadows in Sept 2024, after concerns that the home she was ins ability to support her needs. We knew Mom was approaching end stage and wanted to ensure she had the best care possible. From the moment Mom arrived she was treated with warmth, kindness and love. As Mom was non-verbal and
unable to do anything for herself this was hugely important to us. As a family we were very involved in Moms care and all spent a lot of time on Poppy with her. The staff showed the same warmth and kindness to us all. Mom passed away 3 and a half weeks after moving in but it was the best three weeks she'd had in over a year, she was cared for with so much respect, dignity & kindness that those short weeks felt like years. We all felt like part of the Meadows family. The staff made the last few weeks and days of Moms life beautiful and dignified and for that we are eternally grateful.

Firstly, please accept our condolences from everyone here at The Meadows. We absolutely loved caring for your mum, even for a relatively short period of time she made a real impact on us all and will be missed. We really appreciate your kind words about our team and it makes us so proud that your mum had some great weeks with us before she passed. At The Meadows the feeling of being a family is what we strive for here so for you to say that you felt like part of it, really makes our day. Please let us know if there is anything we can do for your family, and we hope you will still visit us if you so wish for coffee and cake -the kettle is always on.

During the summer of 2022, my mum's respiratory illness was progressing so rapidly that full-time nursing care was becoming necessary. My brothers and I contacted several nursing homes in the local area. The Meadows stood out in terms of making my mum feel so welcome, and she clearly had great confidence
in the care home manager during her preliminary meetings with him. My brothers and I shared this confidence and upon visiting The Meadows there was no doubt that Mum would be happy and extremely well looked after. Upon moving into the home, Mum was only expected to live for a few weeks, but she absolutely thrived at The Meadows, spending nearly two years there before she eventually succumbed to her illness. The care she received was first-rate, but what really shone out was the love that the staff had for my mum. I feel honoured to have witnessed so much loving care bestowed upon my mother by so many staff members and have no hesitation in unreservedly recommending The Meadows.

We find The Meadows a very warm and welcoming place and whenever we visit mum we are always greeted with smiling faces and happy conversations and all staff that we have day to day contact with are friendly and polite. Right from the outset we knew the home would be a special place for mum to live and
have never felt anything but satisfaction with her care and well-being and if any concern has ever been raised it has always been dealt with in a swift, professional manner. A big thank you to all involved, your caring is very much appreciated.

My mother decided she wanted to move from her bungalow to a care home, choosing The Meadows in Didcot on the recommendation of a friend. Due to her medical condition, she was in need of nursing care, which The Meadows provided. On moving in, her life expectancy was just two weeks.
She was fully involved
in the decision to move to The Meadows; she even 'interviewed' the care home manager and chose her own room. She had much better care in The Meadows than my brothers and I could provide for her at home. Her life was undoubtedly extended by her experience there and family could visit at anytime.
She lived for almost two years in The Meadows, well beyond her predicted life expectancy. The Meadows dealt with her passing with dignity. The care she received during her time there was exceptional. I recommend The Meadows Care Home to anyone seeking good care in a relaxed atmosphere.

Mum moved to The Meadows in February 2024. She is so happy and settled. The care she receives is great. It has given the family peace of mind that she is now safe and well cared for! The staff on Bluebell are fantastic and very patient with the family and our questions. The staff activity team are excellent.
There is so much going on. I attended my first residents meeting recently, senior staff were very informative and noted any concerns which was reassuring. Looking forward to 2025!

My father was placed at The Meadows for last-minute respite care when my mum was rushed to hospital. The team at The Meadows have been extremely caring and attentive towards my grand since his arrival. Everyone on the team is friendly and welcoming to our family - it's like coming home when we visit

We have been in The Meadows since March 2024 and feel at home here apart from the fact my wife cannot look after herself and the fact we lost our only son on the 1st of July 2024 and we could not get transport to say goodbye to him. All of the staff were excellent and did all they could for us, but
it was still very traumatic. The caring staff do their best to provide good care and day activities but sometimes they're a bit lacking. The food is varied in detail. All in all a very good home for somebody who needs it.

Garden benches need to be bolted to the floor as my brother witnessed a resident fall backwards off the bench. Need more staff so when residents are in both lounges there is someone there as I witnessed a man in a wheelchair with brakes off using his feet to scoot outside when carer came in she asked
if I had moved him which I hadn't - not good.

Took my mum down to the Friday activity which was a live singer. He geared the songs to the age/chosen ones that they knew. He focused on the residents, was caring, interacted with them. Their faces showed how much they enjoyed the session. He spoke to them and held their hands.
Just shows the power
of music, even for those that are unable to talk or barely move, yet their faces glowed with enjoyment - so lovely to see.

At the beginning of this year with the help of my mother's social worker, I was able to finally move my mother from a care home where she had lived for over two years to The Meadows. I received a call from the manager of The Meadows who was so kind, reassuring and organised for my mother to be assessed,
and all the paperwork was quickly sorted with Social Services, so no further delays were moving my mother. On arrival, I can't thank all the staff enough for how they welcomed my mother immediately seeking medical help and medication for her as she was so unwell on her arrival. She is now making good progress and feeling much better. They even found her one hearing aid had no battery in it, so sorted this too with a battery. They got her ready for bed and made her feel very welcome in her new home. At The Meadows, my mother is treated with dignity and allowed to make her own choices. She is enjoying being able to stay in her bed and rest. All management have been outstanding. Thank you!

Overall since my mum has arrived at The Meadows I have found the majority of staff excellent and my mum settled in well. I do feel at times communication from The Meadows has failed especially when mum has been ill. The majority of all the staff are really friendly and always helpful and nothing is
