My Father has been in the meadows for a month and the care has been excellent it's clean, the staff are kind, he enjoyed the food and loved the activities he often thought he was in a hotel. We worried that the would hate it but he said he was happy, comfortable and often thought he was on holiday.
The kindness at the end towards the family showed true compassion and genuine care.
Reply from Helen Dearing, On behalf of the team at The MeadowsThank you so much for your lovely review of our home, we are so pleased to read how highly your father rated the care and team here at The Meadows. The Meadows Care home has given Mum a home from home life style. She loves it there & we are very happy with their care & affection for her. She is treated with respect & as an individual. As her medical condition has changed so has the help she receives. This is given in a calm & reassuring manner.
The great variety of activities provided by the home & wonderful staff, have given Mum & us such enjoyment. We are always included in this inclusive home. We feel so fortunate to have her living at The Meadows.

Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
The care home staff work extremely hard to keep my sister happy. My impression is that the carers and nurses are often under a lot of pressure. Perhaps additional carers and nurses would relieve some of the pressure and allow more precious one to one time with residents. The receptionist goes above
and beyond and has helped many, many times. When she is on holiday we all notice the gap she leaves. Access via the front door is much harder at weekends and the evening because she is not there. The manager is always very helpful, polite and has high levels of empathy with the residents. He sets a good example and always does his best. The activities staff are very energised and work hard to keep residents entertained. It would be good if weekend activities could be increased. The deputy manager and registrar is very helpful and knowledgeable. She is a very good role model. Thank you for all that you do everyone.
Reply from Helen Dearing, On behalf of the team at The MeadowsThank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback. We are delighted to hear that you feel our team is providing such a positive experience for your sister. Your kind words about our carers, nurses, reception staff, management, and activities team are greatly appreciated, and we will be sure to pass them on.
We also value your suggestions regarding additional staff and weekend activities. Feedback like yours helps us to continually improve the care and support we provide to all our residents.
Thank you once again for your thoughtful comments and for recognising the hard work and dedication of our team.

The staff is well trained and professional. Mum is happy and always well kept. They go beyond their duty to ensure mums is safe and when ever we visit which is very oftern, mum is happy well kept doing activities, cleaned and looking very well kept. The staff are extremely friendly and management is
superb. We cannot express how happy we are with the care home, simply professional, kind, and they go beyond to ensure mum is safe, we are kept updated of all that is happening. A big thank you to the staff and management for running the care home so professionally with compassion and skill.

My Mum has been there for a couple of years. The thing I like the most on Poppy house hold is the staff they are warm, friendly and approachable. This includes all supporting housekeeping staff.
Always greet my mum by her name when we go for a walk around.
Manager has an open door policy and you
can discuss anything with him. He involves himself in the activities.
They have just had a refurb and the places look lovely, However the bedrooms could do with the same TLC.
There are a good variety of activities in the heart of the home, pictures shared. But never see evidence of the activities being taken to those unable to leave their rooms.
They have an amazing size garden which has had work and time spent on it. Does lack a few visual and sensory areas,
Whether its a care home or any environment there is always room for improvement. The Meadows is striving for this with the support of management, staff and residents families and I feel are on the right path.
Very happy with the Meadows.

In November, I was notified by Meadows' staff that my aunt by marriage and for whom I have POA, was unwell. The staff sought medical assistance and out of hours support attended. Her situation was assessed, I was notified and also attended. Fortunately my aunt recovered. The staff at The Meadows were
wonderful and acted swiftly and appropriately, in line with my wishes.

My mum has been on poppy ward for a number of years. The staff are respectful my mum is well looked after and generally seems quite happy. The cleaing staff on poppy are really nice and my mum gets on really well with them. My dad was also on poppy ward and could be a difficult person to deal with at
times but the staff were really good with him he has since passed away and they were all very respectful to him and us as family.

It is a scary thing moving a relative into a care home, but I know it is the right decision to be at The Meadows. My father chose it and although he still finds things that aren't right for him, I think the staff have gone out of their way to get to know him, his hobbies, humour and his needs (which
are sometimes quite demanding). Thank you for helping him settle and supporting him so efficiently.

My mother lived at the Meadows for 2 years up to her death in June 2025. During this time she required a lot of personal care and assistance. Mum had not wanted to move into a care home but she was made very welcome and settled quickly. Our family were very pleased with the care and respect she was
shown. We also found the team were very responsive to any suggestions we made and her care plan was adapted to her specific needs and wishes. The nursing and care teams really got to know her and her preferences for what she liked to eat and drink, the clothes she liked to wear and the TV/radio programmes and activities she enjoyed.
From my point of view I was always made to feel welcome when I visited. The garden and first floor balcony are a real asset enabling visitors and residents to enjoy the outdoors. More generally the recent refurbishment has improved the facilities but it is the management, nursing and care teams who make the home the happy and positive place it is.

Mom moved to The Meadows in Sept 2024, after concerns that the home she was ins ability to support her needs. We knew Mom was approaching end stage and wanted to ensure she had the best care possible. From the moment Mom arrived she was treated with warmth, kindness and love. As Mom was non-verbal and
unable to do anything for herself this was hugely important to us. As a family we were very involved in Moms care and all spent a lot of time on Poppy with her. The staff showed the same warmth and kindness to us all. Mom passed away 3 and a half weeks after moving in but it was the best three weeks she'd had in over a year, she was cared for with so much respect, dignity & kindness that those short weeks felt like years. We all felt like part of the Meadows family. The staff made the last few weeks and days of Moms life beautiful and dignified and for that we are eternally grateful.
Reply from Helen Dearing, On behalf of the team at The MeadowsFirstly, please accept our condolences from everyone here at The Meadows. We absolutely loved caring for your mum, even for a relatively short period of time she made a real impact on us all and will be missed. At The Meadows the feeling of being a family is what we strive for here so for you to say that you felt like part of it, really makes our day. During the summer of 2022, my mum's respiratory illness was progressing so rapidly that full-time nursing care was becoming necessary. My brothers and I contacted several nursing homes in the local area. The Meadows stood out in terms of making my mum feel so welcome, and she clearly had great confidence
in the care home manager during her preliminary meetings with him. My brothers and I shared this confidence and upon visiting The Meadows there was no doubt that Mum would be happy and extremely well looked after. Upon moving into the home, Mum was only expected to live for a few weeks, but she absolutely thrived at The Meadows, spending nearly two years there before she eventually succumbed to her illness. The care she received was first-rate, but what really shone out was the love that the staff had for my mum. I feel honoured to have witnessed so much loving care bestowed upon my mother by so many staff members and have no hesitation in unreservedly recommending The Meadows.

My mother decided she wanted to move from her bungalow to a care home, choosing The Meadows in Didcot on the recommendation of a friend. Due to her medical condition, she was in need of nursing care, which The Meadows provided. On moving in, her life expectancy was just two weeks.
She was fully involved
in the decision to move to The Meadows; she even 'interviewed' the care home manager and chose her own room. She had much better care in The Meadows than my brothers and I could provide for her at home. Her life was undoubtedly extended by her experience there and family could visit at anytime.
She lived for almost two years in The Meadows, well beyond her predicted life expectancy. The Meadows dealt with her passing with dignity. The care she received during her time there was exceptional. I recommend The Meadows Care Home to anyone seeking good care in a relaxed atmosphere.

Mum moved to The Meadows in February 2024. She is so happy and settled. The care she receives is great. It has given the family peace of mind that she is now safe and well cared for! The staff on Bluebell are fantastic and very patient with the family and our questions. The staff activity team are excellent.
There is so much going on. I attended my first residents meeting recently, senior staff were very informative and noted any concerns which was reassuring. Looking forward to 2025!

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 68 registered maximum number of service users is 13.6, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
