We have been in The Meadows since March 2024 and feel at home here apart from the fact my wife cannot look after herself and the fact we lost our only son on the 1st of July 2024 and we could not get transport to say goodbye to him. All of the staff were excellent and did all they could for us, but
it was still very traumatic. The caring staff do their best to provide good care and day activities but sometimes they're a bit lacking. The food is varied in detail. All in all a very good home for somebody who needs it.
Reply from Helen Dearing, On behalf of the team at The MeadowsThank you for taking the time to write us a review, we really appreciate it. We are very sorry for your loss. If there is anything else we can do for you both, please let us know and we will be happy to help. I will also ensure your feedback is sent to the Home Manager for him to discuss with you both.

Garden benches need to be bolted to the floor as my brother witnessed a resident fall backwards off the bench. Need more staff so when residents are in both lounges there is someone there as I witnessed a man in a wheelchair with brakes off using his feet to scoot outside when carer came in she asked
if I had moved him which I hadn't - not good.
Reply from Helen Dearing, On behalf of the team at The MeadowsThank you for taking the time to provide this feedback, it is appreciated. I will ensure this is passed to the Home Manager for action straight away.

My mother has been a full-time resident since 01/04/24. During this time she has been looked after really well and kept occupied. Her general wellbeing has improved and she looks and feels so much better. My experience when visiting is really good and all staff are helpful and informative. I only hope
if my time comes for this type of care that it is equal to what my mum is experiencing now.
Reply from Helen Dearing, On behalf of the team at The MeadowsWhat a lovely review, we really do appreciate your kind words. Your mother hasn't been with us very long but her sparkle has returned. It is an honour caring for your mother and she has really settled in well. Our staff will be so thrilled to read how happy you are with the care she receives. This means the world to us. Please do say hello next time you're visiting us - our kettle is always on.

At the beginning of this year with the help of my mother's social worker, I was able to finally move my mother from a care home where she had lived for over two years to The Meadows. I received a call from the manager of The Meadows who was so kind, reassuring and organised for my mother to be assessed,
and all the paperwork was quickly sorted with Social Services, so no further delays were moving my mother. On arrival, I can't thank all the staff enough for how they welcomed my mother immediately seeking medical help and medication for her as she was so unwell on her arrival. She is now making good progress and feeling much better. They even found her one hearing aid had no battery in it, so sorted this too with a battery. They got her ready for bed and made her feel very welcome in her new home. At The Meadows, my mother is treated with dignity and allowed to make her own choices. She is enjoying being able to stay in her bed and rest. All management have been outstanding. Thank you!
Reply from Rowen Campbell, on behalf of the team at The MeadowsWhat lovely words, thank you! We're delighted to be able to support your mother, and it's great to see her making such good progress. If there is anything more we can do to support her or your family, please don't hesitate to ask.

My father was only in the Meadows for a couple of months but the care that they provided for him in his last few days was exceptional. The nurse and her staff were kind and thoughtful, also the care assistance team were amazing, particularly the lovely girl with the red hair (sorry we did not get her
name) who seemed to connect with dad. We can not fault the cleanliness and the general feeling of a home from home made us happy that dad was being looked after. Thank you all for everything you did for us.
Reply from Helen Dearing, On behalf of the team at The MeadowsWe are very sorry for your loss. We loved caring for your dad, and we're so pleased to hear how highly you rated the care we provided to him. We pride ourselves on providing a homely feel here at The Meadows. I will pass on your thanks to the team and the girl with the red hair. Thank you so much!

Overall since my mum has arrived at The Meadows I have found the majority of staff excellent and my mum settled in well. I do feel at times communication from The Meadows has failed especially when mum has been ill. The majority of all the staff are really friendly and always helpful and nothing is
too much trouble. However some occasions the odd staff member I have found rude, dismissive and difficult to talk to which is a shame as the majority do a fantastic job which is to say the least is very demanding.
Reply from Helen Dearing, On behalf of the team at The MeadowsThank you for leaving your review, we greatly appreciate it. I have forwarded this to the Home Manager who will look into this, thank you for bringing it to our attention. If there's anything else we can do for your mum or you, please let us know. Many thanks.

My mother, who only spent a short while in The Meadows received exceptional care. All the nurses/carers were so very kind and made her last days very comfortable. As a family, we felt welcome to come or go whenever we wanted and they all went the extra mile.

My father (and for a brief time before her death, my mother) received quite exceptional care here over almost 7 years. He felt it was his home, he had excellent relationships with his lovely carers and the excellent nurses. Even though dementia and old age meant that things were often quite challenging,
the care team on Primrose Unit rose to the challenges, time after time. We will always be so grateful to them and to all at The Meadows.. as a family we could not have wished for better or kinder care.
Reply from Helen Dearing, On behalf of the team at The MeadowsThank you for your kind words. It was an honour caring for both your parents whilst they were here. The finest service, the finest care, the finest team and the finest heartfelt appreciation from the family.
Nothing has been too much trouble, you have all gone far beyond our expectations and for this, we are so so grateful you looked after our relative.
A husband, a father, an uncle, a brother,
a brother-in-law, a grandad and a fine, fine father-in-law.
You are often copied...but you will never be equalled.
Thank you.

Following my auntie's admission to the hospital approximately on the 4th of January 2023, I have been updated regularly by the two nurses at The Meadows with my auntie's health and well-being. The carers are very pleasant and helpful. We are very grateful for all the hard work of the staff. Thank you!

The staff at The Meadows Care Home include some very outstanding people. The atmosphere of the home is set by the caring and hard-working people. I believe the residents feel sheltered and loved. The difficulties face and overcome during Covid were monumental. The practical arrangements are good in
every way. When I walked into it I thought this is the place for my partner! It's time.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.619)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.619) out of 10 for The Meadows is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.619 for The Meadows is calculated as follows: ( (200 Excellents x 5) + (74 Goods x 4) + (14 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 291 Ratings = 4.619
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Meadows is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 68 registered maximum number of service users is 13.6, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
