Oaken Holt Nursing and Residential Home in Farmoor provides the highest standard of residential and residential dementia care for up to 43 elderly residents including trial stays, short stays, convalescent and permanent care for individuals or couples.

Set within 23 acres of beautiful gardens and parklands in the heart of rural Oxfordshire, Oaken Holt is a magnificent country estate. The stunning Victorian house offers a mix of ensuite bedrooms and full suites in a setting that retains a wealth of period features and a luxurious standard of furnishings and equipment to ensure a high standard of comfort and care.

Adjacent to the main house, the Coach House is designed for those that prefer a more intimate setting and offers high quality care for up to 12 residents.

Dining is an important part of the day to day life at Oaken Holt. A qualified chef and their team take great pride in producing varied and appetising menus, providing a nutritious and balanced diet. The cuisine is carefully chosen to meet each resident's nutritional needs. The professional care team works closely with residents to provide personalised care. Oaken Holt is a very special place and that is because of the people who work there. You are the most amazing set of individuals, each with your own special skills and experience, but all of you show extraordinary kindness to the residents. The atmosphere from the moment you drive up through beautiful
grounds towards the lovely house, and step inside, is one of tranquillity and love. Nobody could have done more than you all did in your own ways to help my husband navigate his advancing dementia, fading eyesight and to cope with the long term chronic pain he had suffered following his stroke in 2011.
I could not have wished for a better home than Oaken Holt for my husband, and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

There has been a huge improvement in almost every aspect of the Home since the arrival of the new manager a couple of months ago. It is noticeable that both residents and staff appear happier and the whole atmosphere at Oaken Holt has lightened. Some staffing issues have improved and we are optimistic
that this will continue. We have been able to stay for lunches again after Covid restrictions and have been impressed with the quality of the food. The range and frequency of activities provided for residents is increasing and we hope this will go even further. We continue to be pleased with the level of genuine care and attention provided by the permanent members of staff.

My aunt has been living at Oaken Holt Nursing and Residential Home for just over a year. I have peace of mind that she is being looked after well.
Since the new manager arrived the atmosphere is friendly and positive. The staff have always been professional and caring but now they seem more relaxed
and more enthusiastic.

My most recent visit was in March. Travelling from Yorkshire I find, with some notice, I can visit Mum on the days and times that suit me without any problem. Reception is friendly and helpful making sure visitors are Covid clear and safe. Mother's room is large, pleasant and south facing with views
over the parkland. Carers are always popping in to attend to Mum's needs, give her her meds, ask her choices for meals, offer her drinks or see to housekeeping. Staff that I have met have been pleasant and well-meaning. However, due probably to Brexit, there is a big turnover of staff, difficulty in recruiting permanent staff and continual use of agency people, some of who seem to lack proper training. This is not unique to Oaken Holt of course but it does make forming a relationship with some of the carers difficult for Mum and for them to have an on going understanding of her issues and needs. Aside from this the environment is pleasant and the care given is generally good.

With regards to recruitment, the home has actively been recruiting and the agency usage has dropped massively. The home has new care team members joining monthly which has a positive impact on the home and the residents. When agency usage is used we ensure that we are using the same team members for consistency.

My father stayed in the Coach House for respite, and we found the staff very supportive of him and all the family. The deputy manager was very kind and helpful with queries, managing extensions to his stay and keeping in touch, and his lead carer, in particular, always took time with him. The food was
excellent, and the views were just stunning. The team were very helpful in enabling my mother to visit within Covid protocols, which made the stay much more manageable.

I live and work thousands of miles from the UK, so I cannot visit Mum very often. My primary concern is therefore that my Mum is cared for professionally 24/7 - both medically and personally.
I'm happy to say that for all of her years at Oakenholt, that is exactly how Mum has been cared for.
For the
first couple of years, enjoying three tasty and nutritious meals each day, and being reminded to take her medicines on time, her wellbeing improved noticeably!
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Oakenholt, and I recently told both of my children that if the need arises, Oakenholt would be my own first choice!

Dad stayed at Coach House for more than a year before moving to Wytham House and repeatedly spoke very fondly of the carers and the excellent food. The deputy manager at Oaken Holt Nursing and Residential Home was very supportive, quick to respond to queries and to help us as a family address concerns
and questions. Life in a care home is not easy and during the pandemic, times were hard for everyone but given all this, we still feel that we made the right choice in placing Dad at Coach House. The lead carers at Coach House in particular were so kind and we were very grateful to them for their support to Dad, and us as a family. The downsides circled around the lack of engagement/management from the overall director, (who has since left) the regular loss of staff, and gaps in activities for residents.

My friend has been a resident for quite a few years the care that is exceptional and the staff are very attentive and caring, I have no hesitation in recommending them as a care provider. In addition, the grounds and the views from the home are absolutely stunning as is access to the facility.

Communication dealings with the deputy manager are very good. The deputy manager responds efficiently to requests and always ring back promptly if she has been unavailable when I ring. The same cannot be said for the manager. Dining - my father reports that the food at lunch is of a good standard.

Have been here at Oaken Holt for 2 weeks due to a stroke (TIA) and had respite care. It has all been excellent, food is delicious and staff are very obliging, fun, supportive and helpful. I would thoroughly recommend this home.

My father has been at the home for 8 years. The current staff are professional and caring at all times.
One particular nurse has gone over and above her role to provide continuity of care during an urgent health situation and we, as a family, have been comforted and reassured by her unfailing commitment
to her job.

Welcoming, the staff are always very welcoming. Beautifully clean home. Very pleasant atmosphere and there is always things for people to do so the residents are entertained.

As a long term resident at Oaken Holt Care Home, my father has been a resident in residential then in nursing since 2011. Overall we (the family) have been very pleased with the high standard of nursing and care as well as housekeepers, gardeners, etc. for the care home. I am resident in London and
visit once a week. If Father has been unwell staff are always available to help and support. It has been a huge positive factor in keeping Dad, a stroke victim, happy in his old age and as healthy as he can be now.

My aunt seems very happy and well cared for, today she was telling us about the daughter of the house. She was also telling us that she lives there with her mum, brothers and sisters. We know she has taken this out of context but the home must give her a sense of a family environment.

I arrived after a stay in the hospital. I had the most pleasing welcome. The building has rooms identical to Buckingham Place (quoted by my grandson who has just spent months there as an army soldier) I don't know who interviews for staff but they have chosen a wonderful team.
A smile and a few words
are as therapeutic as medication.
There is such a variety of food on the menus.
The stay has improved my thoughts as well as my pain. Thank you so much.

“Oaken Holt is a wonderful home-from-home with a fascinating history and a wide range of activities and facilities. There is an energetic and compassionate team working with me to deliver the highest standards of care.


We are really fortunate to have such extensive and beautiful grounds, and it is well-documented what a positive impact being outdoors can have on everyone’s mental well-being, so I will be working with my colleagues and our residents to make sure we are making the most of those opportunities.


Every person in our community has a story to tell and our role is to help those stories be told, shared, and understood. We put the individual at the heart of everything we do, celebrating their stories, and helping them write new chapters.”
