As a long term resident at Oaken Holt Care Home, my father has been a resident in residential then in nursing since 2011. Overall we (the family) have been very pleased with the high standard of nursing and care as well as housekeepers, gardeners, etc. for the care home. I am resident in London and
visit once a week. If Father has been unwell staff are always available to help and support. It has been a huge positive factor in keeping Dad, a stroke victim, happy in his old age and as healthy as he can be now.

My aunt seems very happy and well cared for, today she was telling us about the daughter of the house. She was also telling us that she lives there with her mum, brothers and sisters. We know she has taken this out of context but the home must give her a sense of a family environment.
Food served
to my aunt was excellent.
We were made to feel very welcome.

I arrived after a stay in the hospital. I had the most pleasing welcome. The building has rooms identical to Buckingham Place (quoted by my grandson who has just spent months there as an army soldier) I don't know who interviews for staff but they have chosen a wonderful team.
A smile and a few words
are as therapeutic as medication.
There is such a variety of food on the menus.
The stay has improved my thoughts as well as my pain. Thank you so much.

My wife and I were very impressed with the quality of care given to my mother. We were always greeted pleasantly on arrival and told about her condition. When we were with her a carer often arrived unannounced to check she was all right. They always encouraged her to ring if she needed anything. They
never appeared rushed and spent as much time with my mother as she needed. They were always willing to take her downstairs and out on the terrace if she wanted to go.
She enjoyed her food and told us it was very good. On her last birthday, they arranged not one but two celebrations and baked two cakes - one in the morning when we were there and one in the afternoon for her and the other residents. When she died they treated her with dignity and came to the room with us when we arrived and helped us to arrange a funeral director and the other formalities. We were very impressed with the care shown to my mother and will not hesitate to recommend Oaken Holt should we have occasion to do so.

My mother spent the last six months of her life at Oaken Holt. We chose it because the staff made such a good impression on our first visit. We are so glad we did.
Everyone we met throughout my mother's stay was professional, friendly and compassionate. They always gave us as much time as we needed
if we had questions.
We were always made welcome when we visited. We were kept informed about doctors' visits and medication prescribed. Especially in her last days, the staff were particularly sensitive and understanding.
My mother regarded her carers with great affection. She enjoyed telling them about her life. It was clear that they respected and were fond of her too. Two members of staff attended her funeral.
The building and its grounds are attractive and rather like a 5-star hotel. My mother enjoyed being taken in the grounds when the weather permitted.
We could not have asked for more from Oaken Holt and recommend it unreservedly.

My father was in Oaken Holt for just over 12 months. During his stay, he was happy and extremely well cared for. The nursing staff and carers were very professional, treated him with respect at all times, and showed great compassion, especially in his last few days.
Having been until fairly recently,
a very active man, he joined in, and enjoyed, the various activities that were organised by the activities team, he especially liked the trips out.
The menus were varied, and as his dietary needs changed, the chefs discussed the options that were available to him.
The carers always made any visitors very welcome, and this was very much appreciated by all.
His room, although very basic, was adequate for his needs, and he liked to have the windows open to hear the birds singing in the large trees that surround the home.
Communication about doctors visits, replenishing personal items etc, was good.
If he could no longer stay at home, then this was the next best thing. Thank you.

The staff are generally very caring, and my mother's key worker is particularly kind and helpful.

However, there have been housekeeping issues - matters which have not been dealt with speedily, and on some occasions, I have arrived to find my mother in dirty clothes because she has spilt food down

herself and has not been cleaned. This is better than it was but still not ideal.
Reply from Theresa Whitford, Home Manager at Oaken HoltThank you for taking the time to review Oaken Holt, we really appreciate your feedback. At Oaken Holt we take great pride in ensuring we deliver high-quality care and facilities meeting all residents requests and needs and we are very pleased that you have such a positive impression of our team and the high-quality care they provide. My wife needed to be taken to the hospital. On leaving the home with the paramedics they indicated how impressed they had been with the efficiency of the staff in helping them prepare her for the ambulance and their knowledge and the resident's situation. They also indicated they don't see this in many
other care homes.

I have visited Oaken Holt Care Home with Nursing for over 6 years. There was a problem getting the correct staff but now they are excellent and it's like a big happy family. The new restoration has brightened the place up a lot. The lady I visit feels happy there and it's her 102nd birthday 22nd May
2017 so it would be good publicity for your company. I would like to thank all the staff. The only problem I have is what happened to photos of when my friend met the lord mayor and MP and the photos from the British Legion Dance? We were told they are at the head office.
Reply from Sherrie Hume, Home Manager at Oaken HoltThank you for taking the time to review Oaken Holt, we really appreciate your feedback. At Oaken Holt we take great pride in ensuring we deliver high-quality care and facilities and we regularly run recruitment campaigns to build our care team thus ensuring they are able to provide person-centred care, spend valuable time with our residents and we are delighted that you comment ‘it’s like a big happy family’ as this is what we strive for. We are undergoing a substantial investment and refurbishment programme and again we are glad you have noted this has enhanced the environment in our home.
Milestone events; birthdays, anniversaries and seasonal holidays are always celebrated in style here at Oaken Holt and we will have a member of our team discuss any celebrations with you and share the photos with you.
We welcome the opportunity to improve and hope you will continue to share your thoughts with us in the home in future.

My sister moved to The Coach House at Oaken Holt Care Home during 2015. It is not an easy transition leaving one's home and moving to residential care but the staff at Oaken Holt Care Home were so good helping my sister settle into where she now accepts as her home. All the staff are so kind and caring
and I am reassured that my sister is getting the best possible care. Whenever I visit I am given a warm welcome and always offered some refreshments even at the busiest of times. To be recommended.

The additional resources of having a driver and minibus which can take residents to hospital appts is invaluable - a recent visit with a 3-hour wait and impossible parking was made so much less stressful for my father. The work of the physiotherapist is vital. In her hours of work, she maintains the
mobility of the residents and provides exercise classes. My father has maintained his mobility for 5 years in no small part due to the professional continuity she has provided.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.147)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.147) out of 10 for Oaken Holt is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.322 for Oaken Holt is calculated as follows: ( (134 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (21 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 180 Ratings = 4.322
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.825 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Oaken Holt is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 59 registered maximum number of service users is 11.8, which has been reached with 13 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

As the Home Manager, I believe that our residents should be treated with the highest quality of care possible and endeavour to ensure that my team and I always maintain this.

I lead by example and involve myself in the day-to-day life of the home as well as making Oaken Holt a happy and enjoyable place in which to live and work.

I take a lot of pleasure from spending time with relatives and residents, understanding the important contribution that these relationships make to the successful running of a care home. I have over 15 years of experience in the care sector, having worked in various roles including carer, senior carer and deputy manager, before becoming home manager. All my roles have given me insight and knowledge, which I draw upon each day and share with my team.

It is important to me to develop team members to achieve their best, which means that together we make a difference to the lives of each of the residents in our care.
