Overall Experience

My Dad has been a resident at Rush Court since December 2022. The care overall has been very good even though the turnover of staff, in general, has been slightly higher than one would like. The variety of meals are a good standard and very nutritious. The lead activity coordinator is exceptional and tries to encourage my Dad to participate in activities. The bedrooms are also cleaned to a high standard. The Management team are also very professional and listens to any minor concerns which are always rectified promptly and efficiently.

Reply from Clifford Hutchings, General Manager at Rush Court

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback on your dad's care and overall experience of Rush Court, this is helpful in helping us continually improve our offering. I acknowledge your comment about staff turnover, but please be reassured that we are working hard to recruit new team members.

My mother has been at Rush Court for 18 months. She is very content there and appreciative of the care she receives from many of the kind and thoughtful carers and staff. Although she has a small room, she loves the views over the fields from her window. She also much enjoys the beautiful garden and especially the floral display at the entrance. She enjoys the meals which are wide-ranging and adaptable. She finds all the staff to be exceptionally helpful and courteous. As a family, we are most grateful for the care that she is receiving in this beautiful home. Thank you!

My aunt was given a very high standard of care during her time at Rush Court. The staff gave her excellent care and were friendly and patient. The food was of a very high quality. This is so important for residents/patients. She was very ill however was made as comfortable and welcome as possible. Overall a better experience than I was expecting. I hope I receive the same care and environment when/if necessary.

Reply from Clifford Hutchings, General Manager at Rush Court

Thank you for your feedback - it is really important to us. I am pleased that the experience, care, and support given to your aunt, was of such a good standard and a positive experience.

Overall Experience

This was my wife's 3rd short respite stay at Rush Court. Lovely setting, good amenities, nice room, caring staff and good food. However, the home feels under-managed with disorganised discharge, missing items (subsequently located) and an apparent lack of effective procedures. Laundry return is very haphazard and my wife has returned with items that do not belong to her. The management team seem rather office-bound and would be more effective if their presence was more obvious and with a higher profile.

Reply from Clifford Hutchings, General Manager at Rush Court

Thank you for your feedback, which we always welcome, to help us continually improve. I am sorry that your wife's discharge from us was not handled effectively & appeared disorganised, with some items missing. I am pleased to hear, however, that these were subsequently located. My mother lived in Rush Court from April 2022 until her death in May 2024. Rush Court was the only care home that she wanted to go to when she became unable to manage at her home. She very much enjoyed her time at Rush Court. She got on well with other residents and loved the rural setting and beautiful garden. The end-of-life nursing staff were excellent and made her final days as peaceful and dignified as nature allowed.

Reply from Clifford Hutchings, General Manager at Rush Court

Thank you for taking the time to provide this review. The staff team and residents will remember your mother fondly, and appreciate how much she enjoyed the setting and gardens. It was our privilege to care for your mother, particularly at the end of her life, and reassuring to read your testament to the dedicated/caring team at this very difficult time for all involved.

My mother was a resident at Rush Court for over three years. She was very engaged when she arrived, although it was a big change for her. Unfortunately she was there during Covid, which very much restricted her life but the home kept her safe.

As restrictions lifted, it was good to take her out. She has been registered blind and then lost her hearing. The staff were all wonderfully patient and kind with her. We were happy with the home.

My mother arrived at Rush Court in November 2023. We were apprehensive as we were moving her from another country. The whole process was extremely smooth. Not only was my mother made to feel incredibly welcome but the whole family was very warmly welcomed. We honestly felt like the staff couldn't do enough for us.
My mother has complex health needs and we've had a lot of support with this.
Her room is beautifully appointed and the meals are always excellent.

The program of events and entertainment is varied and covers all interests.

My mother has been at Rush Court for several years now and has been well looked after and cared for. The quality of the home is excellent, and she now reports that the meals are good. There have been challenges with staff turnover during the time of her stay including managers, however, it has had little impact on her situation. One of the major problems we have is with communications. My wife and I live in Canada so are only able to visit my mother once or twice a year. In spite of ongoing promises to improve communications, we find it hard to ensure we are kept up to date on my mother's mental and physical condition. Fortunately, we have family friends locally who can visit and provide us with reports, but there should be a better way for regular updates from the care home for families that cannot visit on a regular basis.

Reply from Clifford Hutchings, General Manager at Rush Court

Thank you for your feedback, which overall is very positive and we were privileged to take care of your mother in her latter years. We have worked hard on recruitment in the past 12 months and have reduced agency use to a minimum, as we know that when using agency it can impact on service delivery....

We find everyone at Rush Court to be caring and empathetic to our mother's needs. We chose Rush Court after another relative was there in 2022, and if anything the standards are higher now than they were before. Each relevant member of staff is aware of her needs, likes and dislikes, and all know her by name. In her words, she feels 'safe and looked after' at Rush Court.

I am surprised by some of the glowing reviews on this site. Rush Court used to be a fantastic care home when our mother became a resident back in 2016. It had a CQC "Outstanding" rating at that time and there was a waiting list to get a place there. Sadly the manager at that time left a few years later and, under a new manager, many of the good staff left and the standards of care declined. Since then several managers have come and gone, with promises to improve things, but in reality, high staff turnover and massive use of agency staff have resulted in a significant drop in standards. The beautiful gardens remain the high point of the care home thanks to the efforts of the gardener. It remains to be seen whether EFHL and the latest new manager will get the place back up to the level that residents once enjoyed. Our mother is running out of time, so we really hope that they can improve things soon.

From the moment we walked through the door the staff welcome you with a smile. They all got to know my father's changing needs as soon as they could. From receptionists, cleaners, carers, maintenance, nurses and managers their care is wonderful. They would also look out for us as family members. They do like their residents to call it their home. My father came for end-of-life care and a room with a view was found for him. It was very homely.

Thank you for your kind comments. It was an absolute pleasure and honour to look after your father. Your father was a true gentleman. It was also a great pleasure to support you and your family during a very difficult and sad time.
