We visit my father frequently at Ashton Lodge and every time we are greeted warmly by staff. I appreciate that it's not set within acres of greenery and it may not look modern from the outside, but that is not as important as the service provided by the care team which has been great.
The staff look
after all my father's needs and he has a good relationship with several team members.
The professionalism of Ashton Lodge's care team has shown me that it's imperative for those dealing with dementia patients, to have knowledge of the condition including how to react when there's a dementia-induced flare-up.
It's unfortunate, despite dementia being in the headlines, most people just don't understand this devastating illness nor how to interact with dementia patients.
Patience and sincere knowledge-based care is what patients need - holding their hands through this immensely challenging time.
Keep up the good work Ashton Lodge!

The care home managers and staff are exceptional. They work with some of the most challenging patients and continue to perform their roles with a smile on their faces and a positive attitude. They always make extra efforts to make a connection with my father, the patient with dementia, and with the
family when we visit weekly. I cannot recommend the staff more highly and a big thank you to the manager and one member of staff in particular and all the team for making such a challenging condition so much smoother and their team members give us invaluable peace of mind. My father really enjoys the communal approach, the activities and being with other patients like him, I am so grateful for all the efforts and for even taking the time to understand the sometimes-challenging family dynamics which can come when you have a family member with dementia, something only dementia carers understand.

We chose Ashton Lodge after meeting the care home manager and we knew it was the care home for Mum. My Mum has dementia and since moving into Ashton Lodge she has been so well looked after. There is always a friendly and familiar face welcoming us as visitors or interacting with Mum.

Since being moved to Ashton Lodge during Covid the home team has offered excellent care and is kind, patient and understanding towards our mum.
Whilst the drive and entrance to the home may not have the best kerb appeal the home team more than make up for this with their attitude towards every resident
being treated as a person with their own individual needs.
The team works hard to make sure the home is well maintained and always well presented and each member of the team makes sure they know each resident so there is always a friendly smile and word or two for anyone that needs it. Whilst we may not have been able to choose the home due to circumstances when it was needed, we feel very lucky that Mum is cared for so well.

When I was informed that my husband was being accepted at Ashton Lodge I was a little worried as I hadn't visited it and on first impressions, I was a bit of oh my what has he been sent to, after visiting Ashton Lodge I can only say that the staff from when you walk into the building and everyone who
works there are everything you can ask for, they are helpful, caring and all-round lovely people.
All my husband's family and friends who have since visited say they are happy with the nursing care he receives on a daily basis.

My husband was transferred to Ashton Lodge 3 months ago. He suffers from delusional dementia and various other conditions that affect his life.
Since moving to Ahston Lodge he has become less distressed and agitated. The nursing staff are kind and caring with him. This is something he responds to well.
They ensure he has a comfortable, warm room and bed. Plus he is given his food and tablets regularly. He is encouraged to interact with other residents. My family are very happy that he is at Ashton Lodge.

It might not look pretty from the outside but don't judge by appearances: I've been extremely happy with the care, cleanliness and efficiency of Ashton Lodge. Our mum has frontotemporal dementia and requires one-to-one care, and whenever I visit the carer is there by her side. Mum's condition is challenging:
she has greatly reduced mobility and speech, rips up her clothes, can lash out and be extremely rude, and is double incontinent. All are handled with care and respect by the staff, and the medication prescribed by the GP is administered on time and effectively. There was no complaint from the home when Mum ripped up her mattress - it was simply replaced. New flooring went in recently, the food seems good, and the home doesn't smell unpleasant, as I've found in previous homes (Mum was moved around a bit before she settled at Ashton). The manager is friendly and always available if we need to discuss anything; importantly she takes swift action if there are any special needs.

On my last visit to my brother, I was pleased to see him very well-dressed and comfortable in the lovely, spacious lounge. The staff were very welcoming and pleasant, working as a team creating a happy, relaxed atmosphere. They thoughtfully allowed us some quality time with him in a side room and brought
him back for lunch. The menu looked amazing and the dinner trolley arrived with a smiling chef, in his chef whites and hat, serving the food he had prepared. So nice! We left them to enjoy it.
We did not see any signs of activities that day but we walked outside around the spacious garden with its trees and tables which would be lovely, for those who can, to enjoy. My brother is in a lovely home with staff who care. Some of the ratings I have left blank as they at not applicable to me.

Ashton Lodge is a welcoming home with a team of hardworking, well-intentioned and dedicated staff. The house and gardens are well-maintained and secure. Standard of meals is exceptional. For new residents it would be helpful to have been furnished with a few house rules including timings of the day,
reception hours, service standards (including response times), fees and charges, staff board with names and roles, who and how to contact with queries or issues. It's a shame the staff rota/coverage doesn't allow for outside supervision in the summer months/fair weather, as I had to bring my step mum inside at the end of visiting.

Since my mum was admitted to Ashton Lodge, we have experienced such wonderful care, treatment and love, particularly for my mum, who is 101 years of age, and the respect and kindness expressed to my family are amazing. The carers and nurses are so good with all the patients, and nothing is too much
when it comes to caring for all of the patients at Ashton Lodge at Sunbury on the Thames. We are so grateful that Mum is cared for so well and happy. Entertainment is wonderful and keeps patients happy all the time.
Many, many thanks once again.

Can't fault Ashton Lodge. My husband arrived here from 5th hospital stay in one year. Swallowing, dehydration, and chest infection are all related to each other. I insisted he couldn't go back there, and social service placed him at Ashton Lodge. All of his problems were very soon resolved with wonderful
carers' attention.

I find Ashton Lodge very homely and efficient staff. Always helpful and kind and meet my dad's needs. I always feel relaxed because they only ring me if my dad's health has declined (antibiotics, infections) and keeps me updated if needed. Very clean rooms and at dinner, breakfast and supper drinks

Mum moved into Ashton Lodge in July 2021. Initially, she was placed on the first floor, however, as the conditions did not suit her needs, she was transferred to the downstairs nursing unit in June 2022. The environment here was clean and pleasant with refurbished rooms and access to a lovely garden.
The care and attention she received was outstanding from all staff, including those in non-caring roles. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, and for us as visiting relatives, this really helped us to deal with the challenging behaviours Mum displayed at times. This level of care continued all the way through until Mum's passing. We will be eternally grateful to Ashton Lodge for their support to us as a family, and for looking after Mum so well. Thank you.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.427)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.427) out of 10 for Ashton Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.577 for Ashton Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (157 Excellents x 5) + (43 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (8 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 220 Ratings = 4.577
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashton Lodge is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 100 registered maximum number of service users is 20. 18 Positive Reviews ÷ 20 = 0.9
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
