My friend, unfortunately, is suffering with dementia, he was admitted to hospital and discharged to a care home, his wife promised him he would never end up in a care home but she was unable to manage him at home. I have known the family for 50 years. His wife rang me to say he was in Ashton Lodge in
Sunbury, would I go to see him? When I got there I could not believe my eyes, a welcoming receptionist and area, told me where to go, saw my friend and he was a different person. He was happy and smiled, the manager welcomed me, she had a wonderful, caring, happy staff under her, drop the Care it was 'Home'.

My mother has been at Ashton Lodge for nearly three years, and during the time she has been there has had her medical and emotional needs looked after to a high standard. As my mother's condition and abilities have deteriorated, the staff have adapted activities and her medical treatments to ensure
she maintains a happy and comfortable life.

My mother was moved downstairs to the nursing unit in July and it's like she's moved to a new care home. The difference has been significantly positive. She came down no longer eating solids or walking, very withdrawn and agitated. She is now much calmer, content, eating solids again and by herself.
She's had some physiotherapy and with the perseverance of the carers, she is taking some steps and is no longer hoisted. I am so pleased and grateful for her care, thank you.

Since April 22nd 2022, 5 months ago, I made the decision that my brother suffering with learning issues and Parkison's Disease, to research Care/Nursing Homes in the area of Sunbury on Thames. With my brother's consent, we selected Ashton Lodge Nursing Home where the clinical and care staff have been
brilliant and full of understanding about his needs and assistance across many areas. My brother seems happy and safe there.

My Aunt was at Ashton Lodge since early 2014 and diagnosed with vascular dementia. I dislike labeling my dear aunt down syndrome, but she was. It was very difficult to find a nursing home to suit her needs, as she required 24-hour care.
She had a very spacious room on the ground floor, we accessorized
her room, home from home, to ensure her surroundings were familiar. My aunt always had the support of her family to ensure she received the best possible care over the 8 years she was there. Overall the care was good and if you had any concerns then they will try and resolve it. The care industry is extremely overstretched and is a very challenging role, but they did look after my dear aunt well and gave her the care she needed.
The food is very good. If you require something specific the chef will come and ask the resident. I would also like to thank the Dr, he is the most exceptional GP I have ever met. Not many GP's like him, he is an asset to the NHS. Thank you all.

My mother entered the home in January 2021 after a spell in hospital. It was her birthday a few days later and they gave her a lovely cake with her name on it and made her day special. I cannot praise the staff enough. Each and every one of them were so kind and attentive. They really felt more like
friends. I would highly recommend Ashton Lodge to anyone looking for a home for their loved one. Thank you to all of you.

My mum who has dementia was sent to this home after being treated in the hospital for Covid. I found that it was sometimes impossible to get through to the home for updates on her recovery and on a couple of occasions when I did get through, they were talking about the wrong resident! Mum often looked
unkempt and dirty when I visited and more often than not was wearing someone else's clothes (even though I had taken plenty of her own in with her). Mum's mental state deteriorated whilst in there as she was isolated too much and did not have enough interaction with anyone. On calls/visits to mum, she was always very tearful and unhappy. Physios were not called in quick enough which made her bed-bound. Thankfully mum is now back in the residential home where she was (minus a lot of her clothing) prior to her illness and is happy again, eating and drinking by herself (she wasn't when in Ashton), and being well cared for.

My mum has been a resident at Ashton Lodge for 3 years. I feel extremely comfortable with mum being there and I know she is cared for incredibly well. The staff really look out for mum and treat her with respect and dignity, and most of all do their utmost to help her feel comfortable and happy. After
many years of suffering from dementia where mum was extremely unhappy and frustrated, she has her sense of humour back. Mum has smiled and laughed for the first time in years and for that I will always be so grateful to the staff and management at Ashton Lodge.

I find this home suitable for my requirements at present. The staff do their best despite staff shortages from time to time. They keep up residents morale even the most difficult residents suffering dementia. It is my opinion that most of the residents help one another whenever they can.

During 2020 the opportunity to visit has been very limited due to COVID 19 and the lockdown. However, on my previous numerous visits, I have found the home to be friendly, well run by the Home Manager and staff with good facilities.

My mum has been in Ashton Lodge since 2015. It took a while for her to get settled there, as she was on the 2nd floor.
Over a year ago she asked to be moved downstairs as it is much quieter down there. She has a lovely room which has double doors to a little patio area into the main garden.
She is
very happy there, staff have a good relationship with her and has since this current lockdown she has made some friendships with other residents.

It’s a piece of mind for myself and my brother, that our dear mum is happy where she is living and being well looked after. Safe and sound.

I'm very pleased with the standard of care that my grandmother has received. Staff are always friendly and attentive and always greet my family and me by name. Every effort is taken to make my Grandmother comfortable. I also feel that my feedback to the carers and nurses are valued and taken on board.
Ashton Lodge has a lovely homely feel to it and I'm extremely grateful for al;l they've done for myself and family.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.427)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.427) out of 10 for Ashton Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.577 for Ashton Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (157 Excellents x 5) + (43 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (8 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 220 Ratings = 4.577
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashton Lodge is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 100 registered maximum number of service users is 20. 18 Positive Reviews ÷ 20 = 0.9
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
