My mum who has dementia was sent to this home after being treated in the hospital for Covid. I found that it was sometimes impossible to get through to the home for updates on her recovery and on a couple of occasions when I did get through, they were talking about the wrong resident! Mum often looked
unkempt and dirty when I visited and more often than not was wearing someone else's clothes (even though I had taken plenty of her own in with her). Mum's mental state deteriorated whilst in there as she was isolated too much and did not have enough interaction with anyone. On calls/visits to mum, she was always very tearful and unhappy. Physios were not called in quick enough which made her bed-bound. Thankfully mum is now back in the residential home where she was (minus a lot of her clothing) prior to her illness and is happy again, eating and drinking by herself (she wasn't when in Ashton), and being well cared for.

My mum has been a resident at Ashton Lodge for 3 years. I feel extremely comfortable with mum being there and I know she is cared for incredibly well. The staff really look out for mum and treat her with respect and dignity, and most of all do their utmost to help her feel comfortable and happy. After
many years of suffering from dementia where mum was extremely unhappy and frustrated, she has her sense of humour back. Mum has smiled and laughed for the first time in years and for that I will always be so grateful to the staff and management at Ashton Lodge.

I find this home suitable for my requirements at present. The staff do their best despite staff shortages from time to time. They keep up residents morale even the most difficult residents suffering dementia. It is my opinion that most of the residents help one another whenever they can.

During 2020 the opportunity to visit has been very limited due to COVID 19 and the lockdown. However, on my previous numerous visits, I have found the home to be friendly, well run by the Home Manager and staff with good facilities.

My mum has been in Ashton Lodge since 2015. It took a while for her to get settled there, as she was on the 2nd floor.
Over a year ago she asked to be moved downstairs as it is much quieter down there. She has a lovely room which has double doors to a little patio area into the main garden.
She is
very happy there, staff have a good relationship with her and has since this current lockdown she has made some friendships with other residents.

It’s a piece of mind for myself and my brother, that our dear mum is happy where she is living and being well looked after. Safe and sound.

I'm very pleased with the standard of care that my grandmother has received. Staff are always friendly and attentive and always greet my family and me by name. Every effort is taken to make my Grandmother comfortable. I also feel that my feedback to the carers and nurses are valued and taken on board.
Ashton Lodge has a lovely homely feel to it and I'm extremely grateful for al;l they've done for myself and family.

My partner has been at Ashton Lodge since early 2017. I have nothing but praise and admiration for the staff who work on the first floor. They always welcome me when I visit and tell me about what has been happening or how my partner is. They are a very caring and friendly bunch, even when stretched
to their limits.

My mother is very well looked after in most ways. The carers are brilliant and so are the nurses and all other staff, but could do with a few more staff as they are very overworked. My mother has someone to talk to whenever she needs it. The food is very good and I can now, at last, know she is safe,
well-fed and generally looked after.

My husband became a resident in Ashton Lodge in December 2016. At the time, he was on a tube feed, catheter.
The dietician visited him and within no time he was eating food.
All this was cared for by nursing and care staff. He suffered from dreadful urine infections and again urology let us try without
it, again a success. He always received prompt attention when necessary, tender care and consideration, even the staff who cooked scrambled eggs. Sadly he died very quickly, his GP, head nurse, nurses and carers made his last days and mine as smooth as they were able. Since then I have been contacted by Ashton Lodge, they are still watching out for me. I am indebted to each and every one of the staff. We both came to love and respect you all.

My mother was a very independent lady up until she was almost 100 years old. She was very resistant to living in a care home and took a while to settle and to realize that she could no longer care for herself at home. The staff at Ashton Lodge were very caring and were ready to have a laugh with her
and help her in every way. She was in their care for nine months and in letters, I received from her she commented on their caring attitude and said how lucky she was to be there. I am so grateful to all the management and staff.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.477)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.477) out of 10 for Ashton Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.552 for Ashton Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (161 Excellents x 5) + (48 Goods x 4) + (14 Satisfactorys x 3) + (8 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 232 Ratings = 4.552
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashton Lodge is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 100 registered maximum number of service users is 20. 19 Positive Reviews ÷ 20 = 0.95
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

My career in Health and Social started as a result of my grandfather being terminally ill. He was being cared for in a hospice which was not caring for him the way we had expected. As a family, a Decision was made to take him home and care for him. One day when supporting my grandfather I had an epiphany that maybe this is what I should be doing. I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives by ensuring they have a good quality of life for the rest of their lives. I graduated with a BSC Psychology degree and went on to achieve Health & social vocational qualifications.

After graduating I went on to become a Dementia support worker and developed my career very quickly in Management.

I have worked for 20 years in the sector in different capacities and am extremely passionate about providing a high standard of quality care.

I enjoy developing teams and supporting them to reach their full potential.
