This home is a home from home.
The staff are friendly, helpful, caring, approachable and respectful.
The home is clean and clients are always kept very clean.
The food is good and plenty of it.
There is plenty of entertainment.
Rooms are a good size, and well equipped.

Nowhere is ever perfect and nothing is like your home, but when you are looking at care homes this is a good one.

Reluctant 'service user' but after the second day at Clare House, I could not stop singing the praise of the good care, good food and the general wellbeing it provides. Thank you.

I came in for two weeks as a respite patient from hospital. This was to give my carer and myself some time off. The time spent at Clare House Care Home was beneficial to me as I did not have to lift a finger. There was an incident where I went out for the day and my daughter was called later to ask where I was, I had already told the day staff but the message did not get through and my daughter was alarmed.

My partner was well looked after for a couple of months before his death in this home. He went downhill rapidly and his needs changed. It took some time to adapt to this eg. Cot side bed, feeding etc. But staff willing to adapt to this.

The staff are caring and kind. They do their best not to keep residents waiting when they need help. My mother is unable to walk or move out of her chair, so has to rely on staff for toilet help etc. The home provides activities and once a month an outing. The home is welcoming and I am free to visit at any time that suits me (I visit my mother five days a week for two hours a time). My mother has been there for nearly two years and is happy.

Clare House had a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. My aunt received excellent care. All the staff were friendly and helpful. We were always offered refreshments when we visited. In her final days my aunt was treated with the utmost respect and dignity. This home deserves recognition for it's dedication to making their residents feel valued and respected.

To be told by your elderly mum that she thinks we have found the ideal place for her to live in is immensely reassuring. This is chiefly due to the daily kindness of the whole staff. My brother and I are truly grateful for the service provided by Clare House.

Review from Tim P (Grandson of Resident) published on 12 August 2015 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
I think that Clare House could perform better. There appears to be a high turnover of staff, many agency workers and it seems generally a bit disorganised, particularly in comparison to other homes that I have had experience with. My grandfather 95 and is almost blind and very deaf, and up until a recent fall, he had always been very independent. He has had numerous problems with Clare House all of which seem to stem from poor organisation and lack of a core team. Examples of issues include being spoken to by people who clearly don't realise he is deaf, being asked to perform tasks that would be difficult for someone who is blind, such as buttoning up his pyjamas and being dealt with by people who don't seem particularly empathetic to his needs - there seems to be a lot of examples of times when someone has promised to look into something or action a request and failed to follow up.

I understand that the home has also changed manager 3 times since the turn of the year and despite my grandfather making numerous requests and the home being the size of a large house, the management are rarely able offer their time to discuss issues that he wishes to raise. Our family are frequently having to replace items of clothing that have been lost. I've spoken to many members of staff and they are all extremely pleasant and hard working, but overall there seems to be a lack of organisation from the top. The premises, activities and food are all good, but ultimately for me, the care services aren't up to standard for well over £1000+ p/w.
