Overview

The Review Score of 9.6 (maximum of 10) for St George's Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 24 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for St George's Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.59 for St George's Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (177 Excellents x 5) + (96 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 283 Ratings = 4.59

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St George's Care Home is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 12.6 positive Reviews (63 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 15 Reviews ÷ 12.6 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

9.6 St George's Care Home has a Review Score of 9.6 (9.590) from 24 Reviews

St Georges care home is a wonderful place to stay for people with mental problems, my husband had Alzheimer's and stayed 9-10-17 to 22-02-18 when he passed away. The staff are very caring to all making sure the relatives are happy with the care for their loved ones. I would like to thank them for looking after my husband and keeping him safe along with keeping his morale up along with mine. The home has a wonderful welcoming feeling and nothing is too much trouble for them.

Thank you for sharing this with us and I am so sorry for your loss. I'm pleased that you were well supported and welcomed during this time and I'll pass comments on to our home's manager.

My father has been a resident for 18 months. His overall care is good. The staff are caring and considerate with a few individuals providing excellent care. Staff at times are overstretched especially at weekends. The management team are extremely approachable. There is room for improvement in the general decoration and cleanliness. More varied activities are required.

The staff are so caring and work so hard to make all residents feel as if they are in their own homes. The activities are well planned, exciting and all residents can be included if they are able to. The catering is well presented.

Thank you for your review about St Georges and their staff and activities.

Staff are kind and caring and seem to take a real interest in the residents, getting to know them and all their likes and dislikes. The home is warm and cheerfully decorated with plenty of activities but no pressure to join in if the resident wants quiet time.

My mother has been a resident at St George's care home for seven and a half years, every time I visit, which is weekly, I always find the home a clean and welcoming place. The staff are always courteous and efficient and they all know how to look after each resident and their various needs depending on their individual levels of care required. My mum is always neatly presented even though she can't do much for herself. The food is of a very high standard and there is a wide range of activities provided by the home (ie singing, animal petting).

I would recommend St George's Care Home. The home is clean and tidy and all the people who work there are very friendly and caring. You can tell that the staff enjoy their jobs, nothing is too much trouble for them. When relatives visit the home, the staff are so friendly to them. St George's was definitely our first choice for a care home for my brother.

Thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear about your positive experience and appreciate your comments about our home.

My Aunt moved into St George's Nursing Home on 30th January 2015 after a spell in hospital and a need for a higher level of care than previously.
During her time at St George's Nursing Home, the staff have looked after her very well and treated her with dignity and humour.
St George's Nursing Home has a very bright and cheerful atmosphere and has daily activities/entertainments for the residents to attend if they wish.
I have always found the staff very helpful and they assist my Aunt at mealtimes as necessary. They also keep me up to date with any
problems or clothing requirements and details of doctors visits.
As my Aunt's dementia and mobility has gradually deteriorated they have increased the care they provide.

My Aunt is very comfortable there and I have no hesitation in recommending St George's Nursing Home.

Thank you for your review and kind words. I'm so glad to hear that your aunt is settled and happy and enjoying the activities. It must give you peace of mind knowing that you are kept up to date with everything.

Mum has been at St George's Care Home for over five years.

As well as Alzheimer's, mum has complete medical needs. We are very happy with the care mum receives. Staff in all areas, from the manager, nurses, cares, reception, catering and housekeeping are caring, friendly and professional. Managing mum's medical and social needs so well that we could not envisage a better home.

Indeed, over the years, it has truly become mum's home and the staff are mum's friends too. There is a fabulous activities department which enables mum in thoughtful and imaginative ways to continue her interests and new ones too.

Thank you for your review. It is lovely to hear that you are so happy with your mum's care and that your mum has settled so well and made new friends and enjoying the activities at the home.

Dad has been well cared for since his arrival.
His personal hygiene is dealt with well and requests to assist him (changing etc) are responded to promptly.
In May 2017 Dad developed blisters (pressure sores) on his heels.
A TVN (Tissue Viability Nurse) should have been called sooner (fax sent). An email/phone call would have been a lot quicker.
That said, the wounds have now healed (blisters burst and became infected).
Dad is well in himself and very happy with the care he receives.

My mother was a resident at St George's for several years until her death on Christmas day 2016. I have nothing but praise for this excellent care home. The staff are outstanding, so very gentle and caring and the manner in which they deal with the residents is simply excellent. My mother was in a spacious room, with a well-equipped bathroom and very well maintained by the excellent cleaning staff. The home is very well maintained having undergone a recent refurbishment. Activities are provided daily to stimulate the residents and trips out are arranged for the more able. The food is excellent and served openly in the restaurant. I could not fault St George's and thanks to all the staff for the loving care they gave my mother.

My mother was a resident from April 2006 until she died in February 2016. The care home employs plenty of state registered nurses, my mother was cleaned every day, fresh clothes everyday, plenty of stimulation via activities or common lounge areas. Regular renovation to the care house, with input from residents parents/carers. Dignity is always evident with staff being well trained and dedicated. There have been plenty of investment and improvement over the years such as digital TV's, Wifi and more equipment and changes of layouts. There is plenty of communication with access to a residents representative committee. Much better than the rest.

My husband came to St George's in April 2015. He had early onset Alzheimer's and his behaviour was extremely challenging as he was still so young and strong and didn't understand what was going on. I cannot stress how wonderful ALL the staff have been through some very difficult times. The nursing, care, reception, housekeeping, cleaning and maintenance staff all made us welcome and my husband was cared for with such professionalism and loving concern. Sadly, he passed away in January and everyone was so kind and supportive especially when we wanted to be with him at the end and we were there all the time. They not only cared for him, ensuring his comfort and dignity, feeding and giving him personal care, they looked after our emotional needs. I cannot speak highly enough of all at St George's and my children and I could never thank them enough.

St George's has been fantastic since the moment my mother arrived, specialising in needs as she has challenging behaviour. The health care commission reports are wholly wrong in my opinion and I am highly critical of them, I think the St George's do a fantastic job and are extremely conscientious.
Staff are wonderfully dedicated, caring and understand dementia, which I think the commission do not. They work hard, are respectful and dedicated at provided care. Play leaders are imaginative and thoughtful with their programmes.

After one bad experience of a home where my wife was very unhappy, I was wary of another home. The difference with St. Georges is the freedom of movement which does not restrict her to confined areas in the home. Overall the supervision is very good and the staff are all very friendly and caring which ensures that she remains calm most of the time. The food is of good quality and decent portions. The cleanliness appears very thorough. There is a good and varied activities programme every month with additional themed events.

Mum has been in St. George's nursing home for 10 months. I see her regularly and I am very pleased with her care and how she seems to have improved health wise since last year when she arrived to live with my family. It was a difficult choice to put mum in a nursing home but it was recommended after many trips to A & E and a couple of long hospital stays. The staff at St. George's soon gave me confidence that we had done the right thing for mum. Mum still has a good memory so she knows that she has lived with us but when she comes to visit she tells us when she is ready to go 'home', that is to St George's. Mum has likes and dislikes and when she has told staff what she wants, they try to accommodate her. My sister visits mum a lot less frequently due to distance but last weekend when she took mum out she commented on how well mum looked compared to a year ago.
