Merlewood

I was seeking specialist care following a major operation on both feet and a neighbour, whose husband had received end of life care at Merlewood Care Home recommended it to me. I immediately felt comfortable moving in for the required six weeks of care, the staff and managers were friendly and welcoming, and nothing was too much trouble. The nursing care was also over and above that required of them, and i found the whole experience both supportive and comforting. I would therefore have no hesitation in recommending Merlewood Care Home to anyone seeking any type of care.

A lovely care home where my father is happy & looked after so well with caring & attentive staff in a very homely environment. He has improved so much since moving there in January'26 such a comfort to his family to know he is being looked after well with dignity and kindness. Enjoying wonderful food in a lovely private room looking out to beautiful grounds in a very peaceful setting.

A really friendly atmosphere of an excellent country hotel. The rooms are pleasantly arranged, either looking out over the flowers and garden.

It is just like living in paradise.

All of the staff have been friendly, enthusiastic and welcoming, the food is great - with the welcome option of smaller portions. There's a varied schedule of activities and outings. As a frequent visitor I feel well informed. There are lovely gardens surrounding the building and when the weather is warm enough we often borrow a wheelchair for a trip outside.

Excellent care home with brilliant caring staff. Every member of the team is exceptional. When Mum moved in she quickly settled and after just a short time referred to Merlewood as home. Whenever we visit we too are made to feel welcome and nothing is too much for the staff. Mum has had her ups and downs and the staff have liaised with outside agencies to ensure that her excellent care has continued.

I was at Merlewood for 3 weeks after being in hospital. I found the staff and physio etc very helpful for condition I was in, and was able to return home back on my feet after encouragement and physio.

Having looked at more than 10 care homes, I chose Merlewood for my mother. Best decision I could have made. The accommodation was lovely, clean and more than adequate. All the staff were polite, caring and made my mum feel at home. She was so well looked after, which took a lot of pressure off me. I would highly recommend Merlewood to anyone considering care for their elderly family members, out of ten.

I would like to say how happy we are with the care and support given to mum and us from all the staff. We receive a friendly welcome each visit, and all the different teams are always happy to help. We are very pleased with all aspects of mums care, especially with the transition to nursing care, the staff explained everything and we can see how settled she is. Thank you Merlewood.

From when my mother first went to Merlewood until she passed away, she was looked after very well. The staff were very approachable and helpful, and always kept me up to date with anything to do with my mother, which I was very grateful for. Many thanks to all the staff at Merlewood.

From when you arrive into the reception area it has a feeling of warmth, this comes from the staff and the residents do seem happy. The nursing staff are very helpful and you can always get to talk to them easily. The food is nicely served by staff that are happy to bring the food when required. All in all a very lovely nursing home. It's very clean and doesn't have any funny smells.

The home is spotless and smells lovely his room is cleaned and tidied every day I highly recommend this home

A great find - Being responsible for organizing the care for a family member is a tough one when you have no experience of the care system. From the moment I contacted Debi and her team they couldn't have been more helpful - I was super impressed with the timely responses and above all the sense of care. This made the while process so much easier. I visited and my care is now in a lovely room with the most delightful staff, and a very impressive food offer, it has made a difficult situation so much easier with their help.

Our mum was a resident at Merlewood for 3 1/2 years and we are so pleased that we found such a wonderful care home. Many of the staff are long serving and that continuity is so vital when you are elderly. The grounds are beautiful, well maintained and accessible by wheelchair. Management are available and always respond quickly to queries. The cleaners work tirelessly to maintain very high standards in residents rooms and communal areas and are always polite and cheerful. Our mother transitioned to nursing care earlier this year and we were grateful that although her care needs increased that we did not need to move her and she could remain at Merlewood. Carers and nurses are kind, respectful and compassionate and interact with residents with respect and dignity. There is a wide variety of activities and events, something for everyone from summer fairs and dog shows to themed dinners and live singers. A very special place.

My husband needs nursing care - and here at Merlewood he gets that. The nurses and carers are so compassionate and treat their people with dignity and kindness. It is so good to see the same carers and nurses to help continuity and less confusion. When dealing with people who cannot do the most basic things it takes very special people. My only negative is that at weekends it can seem like the staffing levels are much lower and standards slip. Possibly a weekend manager? The catering varied and always good choice. Wonderful cleaning and laundering. Garden a joy!

The time I spent at Merlewood was most enjoyable. The location, the staff, the management were first class. All the staff were lovely and went above and beyond for me. I shall most definitely be going back for further visits. To all at Merlewood, 10/10, thank you.

Staff very helpful lovely grounds to sit in clean no smells. The room I had in a good position hope to have it again one day.

Mum spent the last few months here in Merlewood and I cannot fault anything - staff always accommodating, very friendly and helpful, even in the difficult times.

Merlewood provided end of life care for my mother and the staff were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble, everyone was kind and patient. My mum passed peacefully with dignity, and I felt the staff handled a difficult situation with care and compassion. Also, as a relative I was consulted and kept informed at every stage. Everyone I interacted with, from housekeeping and admin to nurses and managers provided a professional service that I was extremely happy with.
