  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 15 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for The Laurels Nursing Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.684 for The Laurels Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (126 Excellents x 5) + (46 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 177 Ratings = 4.684

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

The 4.673 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Laurels Nursing Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 10.4 positive Reviews (52 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 7 Reviews ÷ 10.4 Target = 0.673

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

A lovely place, well kept and cared for, very clean and good facilities. Staff are excellent and always smiling and friendly and always speak to you in the corridors etc. Always popping in to make sure Mum is OK and not needing anything. I think we were very lucky to be offered a place there for her.

Really impressed with The Laurels Nursing Home. Had to transfer dad from another home which was closing and The Laurels Nursing Home is a million times better. The only thing dad complains about is that he has lost some of his Freeview channels on his TV! If they could sort that out then it would be perfect!

My grandfather came to The Laurels Nursing Home from the hospital 2 months ago. He suffered a broken hip and only started to recover since he came here. Staff are very caring and help him with all his needs in a very friendly manner. I am very pleased that he is being cared for so well.

My father moved in to the Laurels just over a year ago and continues to be very well cared for as his health and independence declines. He enjoys the meals and we are pleased that he spends some time in the lounge each day, particularly as he is now unable to mobilise independently.

My sister was confined to a wheelchair for her last 5 years, she also had senile dementia and had to be moved to a Nursing Home towards the end of her life. While she was only at The Laurels for about the last 3 months of her life and she was unable to use some of the facilities the staff made her comfortable to the end. We always found the staff very helpful and friendly.

I visited a close friend of my mothers regularly and am very pleased to see how happy she is. She always looks well cared for and well fed. The staff are very kind and attentive and the management all extremely approachable.

With one exception, the staff are welcoming and friendly. Appropriate security measures are in place and even though I do not frequently visit, I am recognised and greeted by name.
The nursing care always appears to a high standard.
The residents are usually moved to a lounge for the morning and lunch times. I usually read the nursing notes and check for personal cleanliness. I have no reasons to doubt that the personal care and attention is to a high standard. The matron is always available to discuss my partner's condition and well-being.

Responsive and caring towards mum who is now bed bound. I am always kept informed of any changes in mum's health immediately.
I am not able to give a review of activities (rated satisfactory) as mum is bed bound and not in good health and not able to participate.

My mother is very well cared for by staff who make time for her needs and build a personal relationship. In addition the nursing staff are highly professional and provide a caring and expert service. All the staff at The Laurels also make an effort to get to know friends and family and make us all welcome. I remain fully confident that my mother is very well cared for and happy.

I feel comfortable and safe here, I do not require a lot of help and feel it is rather expensive for what I receive. However I like all the carers, nurses and trust them completely. I believe they genuinely enjoy their jobs, though they sometimes feel overworked and underpaid.

The food is good but boring and certainly too much on the plate. We have two activities co-ordinators to play games etc. They are very helpful and understanding and fun. I would and do recommend this home knowing residents are safe and comfortable here. People in wheelchairs seldom go out but they aim on improving that this year. We have a large attractive patio used always in good weather.

Sally Bossom, Commercial Coordinator at The Laurels Nursing Home responded to this review on 25 Jan 2016:

We always actively encourage constructive criticism from residents, visitors and families as regards all aspects of our service including the meals provided. Seasoning can not always be added to food prior to serving as we do have to cater for a wide range of dietary needs but we always ensure it is available at the meal tables as appropriate. As a 24 hour nursing care provider we will not always be a cost effective option for individuals not requiring nursing care initially and we advise prospective residents accordingly, however we always have to respect the decision they make as to where they would ultimately like to stay.

We do feel that the excellent care provided at the Laurels does represent real value for money and that our team are second to none.

My husband, who is terminally ill, was admitted in December. From the start, he has been treated with the utmost dignity and professionalism. The highly-trained nursing staff are managing his palliative care with such professionalism and tenderness that he is currently very comfortable. The staff ensure that the care is totally tailored to his needs and desires. In this regard, I must mention the exceptional quality of the food prepared for him, and indeed for myself and my son, for we can eat lunch with him whenever we want. This means that we can continue to enjoy family life together. The staff keep me fully informed of the situation and indeed are always keen to ensure that my welfare is also considered. In short, this is a superb home.

From my very first visit the matron was welcoming, professional and nothing was to much trouble for her (to me this was so important to find the right nursing home for my mother). I knew then that this was the right place for her. Now (a year later) my mother is and continues to enjoy this nursing home. They make my mother feel that she is a person and not just a number. She joins in all the activities, has her hair done weekly and when relaxing in her room enjoys watching the birds and wildlife. The staff are friendly and have great sense of humour but most of all I know that my mother is safe and well looked after.

Mum was admitted to The Laurels when, following several falls and increasing frailness, it was clear she was not safe at home any longer. We did not, at that time think she would be with us much longer. However, twelve months on and now aged 95 she is doing well and this is due to the excellent staff at The Laurels. We are so pleased with her care and she is safe and settled, and happy, which is so important. We can visit whenever we like and are always made welcome. I can, and have, recommended this nursing home, as it was recommended to me. Lovely place!
