Since my uncle came to stay at The Laurels I can honestly say his care has been second to none. The staff are extremely helpful and the staff member who takes my daily calls is not only very efficient but also so friendly.

We couldn't have asked for a better nursing home than The Laurels.

We had a few hiccups in the beginning whilst we were all getting to know each other, but gradually after a change in management things improved. We were encouraged to voice our opinions in order to improve the service to our loved ones, we work together (patient, partners and management) to facilitate better delivery, people are kind and caring and on the whole The Laurels is a happy place to be.

Words cannot fully express how thankful we are as a family for the kindness and support we received. The transition of placing a loved one into care is never easy, but The Laurels took that burden off our shoulders with such compassion.
From the moment Dad arrived, he was greeted with genuine warmth and dignity. After a long hospital stay, he faced the challenge of adjusting back to a routine, and every staff member played a role in helping him-especially on the difficult days. He was always treated with care, respect, and patience.
We went from preparing to say goodbye to Dad to watching him walk himself to the lounge for activities, engaging in conversations, and truly enjoying life again. That transformation is a testament to the power of excellent care.
Good care, good food, and incredible staff make all the difference. If we could pick up The Laurels and move it closer to home, we would in a heartbeat!

We miss you all.

Unfortunately dad's stay was shorter than expected, and he died within 2 months. I regret we didn't move him in sooner, as I feel his quality of life could have improved. He was well cared for by an amazing team of friendly carers. He was always clean and treated with dignity. His teeth were brushed, even on his final day. Attention to detail, hospitals simply don't have the time for. I witnessed the staff attend to other residents with patience and empathy.
Having dementia Dad wasn't involved in any of the activities. But I saw a group of ladies grouped together every day, enjoying what was on offer. Once I overheard "Thanks for another wonderful day" to the activity leader. There's a sense of community.

One thing to improve is definitely the weekend office hours. Waiting to be let in and out takes away precious time with relatives, on most people's only day off. And it would be helpful to have someone to ask questions / leave messages with for senior staff to get back to.

Overall Experience

The person being cared for was shown no dignity. They were left in bed day and night. When I rang for assistance on two occasions it took 30 mins for a member of staff to attend. The floor where this person was had a shared lounge space with a small kitchen. I saw dirty /broken blinds and I witnessed residents shouting for assistance and no help. Bins under sink open without lids. Dirty unwiped surfaces and used plaster seen on side. Personal care was poor, incontinence pads placed loose on client /no nets /no pants. Skin care and mouth care poor. Food around mouth, on clothes and bedding, found from previous day. Drink never available beside within reach of client. No attempt at enrichment or stimulating activities for client. Client became unwell, family told she would be nursed by the home on the 'peace pathway'. Husband asked for wife to be taken to hospital. Wife was severely dehydrated, improved, now thriving in new residential. Vulnerable clients with memory issues deserve better.

I would like to thank the lovely staff at the Laurels who went out of their way to look after my dad in his last weeks. Everyone knew him and made us feel so welcome.
Dad passed away at the Laurels in June and we spent the last week with him. The staff made us feel so welcome offering drinks and snacks at all hours of the day and through the night. I had only ever heard horror stories of nursing homes but as soon as my Mum visited the Laurels she knew she wanted Dad to go there as she said it was small and friendly and she was spot on.
The last week my dad was non-responsive it made us feel so lucky as the staff would still pop in and talk with Dad and the fact they all knew him right up to the senior team who would often stop for a chat.

So many members of their team went out of their way to make Dad's time easier and I thank them all.

My father spent a short time at The Laurels Nursing Home - where he died. I feel that he was very well looked after and could not have been in a better place. The team at the Laurels are the kindest, most sincere and most caring staff you’ll ever be fortunate enough to meet! This nursing home is very special, they looked after my mother-in-law in the last 7 weeks of her life. Their care for her was exemplary and the care and support they have provided us has been so full of kindness. Cannot find the words to express how grateful we are to all the staff. Thank you.
