On the whole, staff are kind, cheerful and welcoming to me when I book a visit and whilst I'm there. The person I visit is happy there and says the staff are kind and helpful to him too. They are busy but always have time for you.

It's good to hear about your experience as a visitor and we appreciate your kind words about our team and the positive feedback you've heard from our resident. Thank you.

Overall Experience

On the whole, my family's experience of The Laurels Nursing Home has been very good, both my parents have been residents here. My parents have both been very happy here, although my mother says she doesn't like the food! But that is very subjective, it looks nice to me whenever her meals arrive when I am there. The staff have been very kind recently in relation to the death of my father, and have helped to support my mother through this difficult time. There have been a couple of problems but these have been resolved quickly by the head of care and manager. Like everywhere these days staff shortages at times are a problem but I understand recruitment of more staff is being undertaken.

Reply from Jacqueline Revell-Hughes, Manager at The Laurels Care Centre

Thanks very much for your review and positive comments. It's our pleasure to continue to care for and support your mother. It's good to hear that you have found us responsive and I'm pleased to say that we have welcomed some new team members to enhance our existing and long-standing team recently.

Overall Experience

My mother in law is really happy in her home and I think she is being looked after really well. There have been the usual problems regarding staffing, which are reflected nationally. Many of the staff that my mother in law had got to know well have, unfortunately, left. She has found this difficult at times especially when they were not allowed any visits. I have always found the management to be helpful and efficient in dealing with any issues that have arisen.

Reply from Jacqueline Revell-Hughes, Manager at The Laurels Care Centre

Many thanks for your review of The Laurels. I'm pleased to say that we do still have many of our long serving staff on the team, but also that we have successfully recruited new team members recently to enhance our service. With regards to visiting, we have been able to discontinue the majority of...

I have had several instances where communication has been an issue between myself and the management, I find that sometimes you are not listened to or ignored completely. My wife's personal items such as pyjamas, towels and face flannels are constantly disappearing, an issue which I expect happens in a lot of care homes, but it is never the less annoying. On one occasion I was charged for something which my wife had neither had or required. When I questioned this I was told it was a mistake, on another I was not told that my wife required more toiletries so had to rush out and get replacements. I feel that these items should have been included by the home anyway as the room rates are quite high. I cannot fault however the attention to detail of the nursing side of the home, I am always informed of problems that my wife has had whether it be with medication, falls or her general well being.

Reply from Jacqueline Revell-Hughes, Manager at The Laurels Care Centre

Thank you very much for your review. It is disappointing to hear your thoughts on communication. We do always endeavour listen to the families and friends of our residents and respond as quickly as possible to any queries. Our laundry runs 7 days a week and we ensure that residents have fresh...

Following a diagnosis of prostate cancer eleven years ago (PSA 1301) I was admitted to the Laurels Nursing Home in January 2022 - fast track discharge from the hospital - this further to extensive radiotherapy, chemotherapy and four major operations. I wish to place on record that care and social interaction with the staff has been exemplary, quite beyond reproach. It has been much appreciated by me when contemplating a new chapter of life cycle. Very many thanks.

Overall Experience

When my mother was admitted to the Laurels from hospital, it was with the expectation that she would not live more than a few months. I believe that the fact that she exceeded that expectation by 18 months is testament to the standard of care that she received. For much of that time, unfortunately, it was not possible to visit her because of covid restrictions. However, when I did visit, it was clear that she was in very good hands. She had a bright airy room and both she, her clothes and her surroundings were clean. She was comfortable, despite being bed-bound for most of the time. Whenever I spoke to staff either face to face, on the phone, or during video calls, there was evidence of friendly affection towards my mum. I know I made the right choice in selecting the Laurels as the place to care for my mum, once we made the decision that we could no longer look after her ourselves. I highly recommend them to families looking for a friendly, professional nursing home for their loved one.

My Aunty was well looked after here. I live up north and it was hard for me to get to her but the Laurels home never dismissed the telephone. Every week I would ring her and speak to her, she was always surprised to hear my voice (it was always 'hello treasure'). When I had the chance to see her, it was very warm and welcoming. I work in a care home myself and I know how hard it is for family members to see their loved ones in a home. For me, this was easy here. She was looked after when I went to see her and she was always smiling and happy. Unfortunately, we lost her in December 2020, knowing she had people who looked after her there for her last moments was peace of mind. Thank you for your hard work and the care you show to your residents.

I have been able to visit the resident concerned twice this month having not been able to visit for several months. I was most impressed by how well things were organised and how well cared for she is, considering the current lockdown situation. Life seemed to be carrying on much as usual, which is very reassuring to relatives of residents.

The home had a relaxed but well-ordered feel to it. The staff were very caring for my mother and would always take time to explain to me how my mother was progressing. The staff also provided me with support and advice as to her deteriorating condition and what I should expect. Very thoughtful staff at all levels of the organisation.

I cannot thank The Laurels team enough for the love and care and attention to detail that they showed as they cared for my sister in her last weeks. They welcomed us as we stuck up pictures, and brought in familiar furnishings and comforting reminders of home. They helped to facilitate long-distance relationships - thinking through options. They were so kind to my sister and to our whole family. Thank you.
