Mais House is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac just a few miles from the sea in the picturesque coastal town of Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex. They have a regular minibus service into Bexhill-On-Sea where residents can enjoy a walk along the seafront, a spot of shopping, or enjoy a drink and good food at one of the bars, cafes and restaurants. They also offer trips out to places of interest in the Sussex area such as Brighton or Eastbourne as well as farther afield such as trips to London.

There’s a shared bond at Mais House because each resident has a Service connection. It means there’s a team spirit and a feeling that everyone looks out for each other. Their excellent team of care assistants and nurses provide a genuinely relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Mais House feel that sharing in the lives of veterans who did so much for this country is both a pleasure and a privilege. Residents can relax in one of the lounges, enjoy a drink at the bar or take advantage of a quiet, well stocked library. There’s a conservatory with pleasant views and beautiful landscaped gardens which have full wheelchair access.

Social interaction, camaraderie and helping residents pursue their interests and hobbies play a big part in day-to-day life at Mais House. Their dedicated activity co-ordinator organises a whole range of activities and events, including a summer fête, evening concerts, live music, art classes and dinners. There’s a cinema experience and activity room, with an arts and crafts section. A hairdresser and physiotherapist visit twice weekly. For those unable to venture out Mais House have a weekly trolley shop.

My dad is 98-years-old and has lived on his own since my mum died 9-years ago. After a stroke and various falls, he started having carers but was adamant he didn't want to go into a home, but after a fall and 8-weeks in the hospital, we persuaded him to go to Mais House for some respite, although he
would only agree to two weeks! He went to Mais House on the 21st of February, and we visited on the 22nd, and to our utter amazement, he had already decided he wanted to stay permanently. He was sitting in his comfy chair with his glass of wine looking as if he had always been there. It is such a relief to know he is being well cared for, and the staff are amazing! Everything is done for him and there is a social side too if you want to join in. We never thought we would see the day that he was happy anywhere other than his own home, so thank you Mais House, for making him feel so settled.

"I am a registered Mental Health Nurse with a teaching qualification. I have now taken the post of the PDF at Mais House and am getting to know both staff and residents.


I have been teaching people for over 15 years, in a variety of subjects for, and love facilitating people to learn and explore the different ways in which they can develop their skills.


I can honestly say that in all my years of working, I have never been made so welcome as I have been here at Mais House. The staff are amazing, and I really appreciate the welcome they have offered to me since I joined. The passion for the care given to residents shines out from every single member of staff. The quality of care is something I am constantly amazed and delighted at."
