They have a regular minibus service into Bexhill-On-Sea where residents can enjoy a walk along the seafront, a spot of shopping, or enjoy a drink and good food at one of the bars, cafes and restaurants. I have known Sid for many years, and knowing he is cared for at Mais House gives me enormous peace of mind. The team at Mais House are truly exceptional and go above and beyond for both residents and their families. Every interaction I've had has been warm, caring, and thoughtful. From the friendly
reception staff, to the wonderful kitchen team always offering a cuppa, to the incredible care staff who know their residents so personally and compassionately - the atmosphere is genuinely special. The grounds are beautiful, the activities are abundant, and there is such a strong sense of kindness throughout the home.

Living in New Zealand, it means the world that the team help keep me connected with Sid through emails, phone calls, photos, and even offers to arrange video calls. A special thank you to Leanne Clark for always going the extra mile. Mais House is a truly wonderful place, and the care and compassion shown every day does not go unnoticed.
With love from NZ,
Kathleen xx

The best thing I ever did for Dad was to get him into Mais House. All the staff here have been nothing but really friendly, caring and helpful. Mais House has an excellent reputation and quite rightly so it's a class above any other carehome I have seen.

When visiting my wifes step dad, the care home felt very relaxed, happy and caring towards the residents. The atmosphere reflects the positive attitude that the care home management has built upon a daily basis. When dad arrived at the home, he was very poorly. With the atmosphere and the care, his
health has been improved noticeably, which means he was able to celebrate his 91st birthday with his friends and family. The staff from the dining room, to nursing, entertainment, and domestic staff all made this afternoon enjoyable for him, which, as a family, we are very grateful.
Reply from Susan Knight, Registered Manager at Mais HouseThank you very much for your kind and thoughtful feedback. We are delighted to hear that you find the home to have a relaxed, happy, and caring atmosphere, as this is something we strive to create every day.

It was my Father In Laws 91st Birthday celebration this month. We started by having lunch which was the first time for me and I have to say the dinning room looked fantastic and the meal was wonderful and the dinning room staff were beautiful and amazing. During the afternoon we had tea and cake (which
was made and baked in house) WOW!
I would also like to say what a wonderful atmosphere and homely feel Mais House has and we are always made very welcome by all the staff and management. I would highly recommend this home to any family as the care and atmosphere is just second to none.

I would just like to thank the Restaurant Manager and staff for their efforts in making the dining room so pretty this Mothers Day.The swathes of pink ribbon on the chairs and tables, pink carnations on the table, made a very attractive display. It was such a nice environment in which to have lunch

Every time we visit my mother-in-law at Mais House, we are reassured that she is receiving the best possible care. All staff who work there, whether in kitchen, domestic or clinical - always name-check her and show genuine care and affection. We must also say how grateful we are to the superb culinary
and dining team, who have managed to tempt her into putting on a little much-needed weight. Having eaten in the dining room ourselves, it is easy to see why! With our sincere thanks for all you do.

I only visited once, but was impressed with so many aspects of this care home. To start, the friendliness and efficiency of the staff was comforting. The dining room had the atmosphere of a restaurant and the menu could be tailored to suit individual tastes. There was a lovely garden where residents
could go out to or be taken whenever they wanted. Altogether very impressive. My friend sadly was only there for a short time but he had the very best ofcare.

From the moment I arrived to the time I left, every member of staff I met was professional, caring, and friendly. We had lunch in the dining room, and I met several residents who had "adopted" my brother-in-law and made him feel welcome. The food was excellent and properly cooked. The dining room staff
were all very friendly and helpful, and the service was prompt and attentive, better in fact than some supposedly good restaurants that I have patronised. I was impressed with the range of optional activities available, and the room was pleasant.

Dick came Mais House for a rest bite break.

As this was the first time for him to be away from me as his carer, he was apprehensive.

My sons visited him in my absence and always found Dick happy, though one occasion he was tired( this is normal for Dick as he sleeps a lot at home.)

He is difficult

to assess as with his dementia he is often very forgetful. My opinion is that he has been very happy though home sick and missing Daisy, our small dog.

We, the boys and myself have been impressed with all the staff, who although busy are friendly and very helpful.

Dick had a well found room with en suite with all he needed. All was spotless and I found was perfect for his privacy as needed.

Thank you Mais House for looking after Dick so well, it made a huge difference to my break knowing he was so well cared for.

He seems to have made a friend in Ron and he said he would like to come and see him.

I am very grateful to the lovely, kind staff at Mais House, Bexhill , who are looking after my dear father-in-law so well.
He has been visiting Mais House for respite care over the past three years, but has now become a permanent resident.
The staff are always so helpful, patient and kind to all
of those in their care. There are lots of activities for the residents to join in if they so wish and The Link area is such a nice place for them to sit.
I've joined my father-in-law for lunch there on several occasions and it's like a five star hotel! There's always plenty of choice, the portions are just the right size and the food is delicious and homemade.
Thank you for all you are doing.

Review from Chris H (Husband of Resident) published on 11 October 2024 Submitted via Postal Card • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My wife stayed at Mais House for a three-week period of respite care.
Once again 5-star care and service.
The food was well prepared and served. Activities were varied and inclusive. Nursing, care staff, dining staff and volunteers were always happy to support and understanding of needs.
Hope to
return as she felt safe and secure thank you, everyone.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.893) out of 10 for Mais House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.893 for Mais House is calculated as follows: ( (245 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 270 Ratings = 4.893
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mais House is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 54 registered maximum number of service users is 10.8, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

"I am a registered Mental Health Nurse with a teaching qualification. I have now taken the post of the PDF at Mais House and am getting to know both staff and residents.

I have been teaching people for over 15 years, in a variety of subjects for, and love facilitating people to learn and explore the different ways in which they can develop their skills.

I can honestly say that in all my years of working, I have never been made so welcome as I have been here at Mais House. The staff are amazing, and I really appreciate the welcome they have offered to me since I joined. The passion for the care given to residents shines out from every single member of staff. The quality of care is something I am constantly amazed and delighted at."
