There’s a shared bond at Mais House because each resident has a Service connection. It means there’s a team spirit and a feeling that everyone looks out for each other. Their excellent team of care assistants and nurses provide a genuinely relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Mais House feel that sharing in the lives of veterans who did so much for this country is both a pleasure and a privilege. Residents can relax in one of the lounges, enjoy a drink at the bar or take advantage of a quiet, well stocked library. There’s a conservatory with pleasant views and beautiful landscaped gardens which have full wheelchair access.
Social interaction, camaraderie and helping residents pursue their interests and hobbies play a big part in day-to-day life at Mais House. Their dedicated activity co-ordinator organises a whole range of activities and events, including a summer fête, evening concerts, live music, art classes and dinners. There’s a cinema experience and activity room, with an arts and crafts section. A hairdresser and physiotherapist visit twice weekly. For those unable to venture out Mais House have a weekly trolley shop.

My dear mum and I are deeply grateful for the exemplarily 'gold standard' end of life care given to my father. The very special carers at Mais House gave above and beyond, care that mum and I could no longer do ourselves for him. The plans which were put into place by the nursing staff, to ensure my father's utmost comfort, were extremely comprehensive and covered every possible aspect of his care most holistically. My father was kept beautifully, with the greatest of dignity. Even in the last days, when he lay with his eyes closed, his personal care, ensuring fresh changes of clothing etc., oral care; skin care; frequent checks on his position i.e. slight change of pillow position; turning him to relieve pressure points etc., and the consistent gentle and loving communication with him by all staff, was literally like watching angels at work - such was his care. If you could have a perfect last day with a beloved one, this was it for us. Mais House is a very special home.

When Dad became unwell, together with a loss of his full mobility, we looked widely into choosing the best Nursing Home for Dad and we are very glad we chose Mais House. Mais is unlike other Nursing Homes, as it doesnt feel like a Nursing Home, but more like an extension to your home. All of the staff are so kind and always speak to you by your name. The Nursing care Dad has received from Mais has been 2nd to none and we feel very happy in leaving Dad in their care. The Grounds are very well kept and it is a pleasure to sit outside in the fresh air in the warmer months. Finally, not forgetting the kitchen staff, they do a great job also and the food, whether that be at lunchtime or supper, is always very good.

The atmosphere reflects the positive attitude that the care home management has built upon a daily basis. When dad arrived at the home, he was very poorly. With the atmosphere and the care, his health has been improved noticeably, which means he was able to celebrate his 91st birthday with his friends and family. The staff from the dining room, to nursing, entertainment, and domestic staff all made this afternoon enjoyable for him, which, as a family, we are very grateful.

As this was the first time for him to be away from me as his carer, he was apprehensive.

As this was the first time for him to be away from me as his carer, he was apprehensive.
My sons visited him in my absence and always found Dick happy, though one occasion he was tired( this is normal for Dick as he sleeps a lot at home.)
He is difficult to assess as with his dementia he is often very forgetful. My opinion is that he has been very happy though home sick and missing Daisy, our small dog.
We, the boys and myself have been impressed with all the staff, who although busy are friendly and very helpful.
Dick had a well found room with en suite with all he needed. All was spotless and I found was perfect for his privacy as needed.
Thank you Mais House for looking after Dick so well, it made a huge difference to my break knowing he was so well cared for.
He seems to have made a friend in Ron and he said he would like to come and see him.

"I am a registered Mental Health Nurse with a teaching qualification. I have now taken the post of the PDF at Mais House and am getting to know both staff and residents.
I have been teaching people for over 15 years, in a variety of subjects for, and love facilitating people to learn and explore the different ways in which they can develop their skills.
I can honestly say that in all my years of working, I have never been made so welcome as I have been here at Mais House. The staff are amazing, and I really appreciate the welcome they have offered to me since I joined. The passion for the care given to residents shines out from every single member of staff. The quality of care is something I am constantly amazed and delighted at."
