My dad was in Southdowns Nursing Home for the last few weeks of his life and nothing was ever too much trouble for staff. The staff were caring and friendly to us as a family. The end of life care my dad received was excellent, even getting a minister to visit my dad at short notice. We as a family are extremely grateful for his care and would recommend this home.

My mum has been at Southdowns for three years. I am very happy with her care there. The staff are attentive and see to their every need. The food is excellent and the outlook into the garden is lovely. I would not hesitate to recommend Southdowns to anybody looking for a safe and caring environment for their loved one.

Southdowns continues to provide excellent care in a very safe environment. The sports day I attended there was a very enjoyable day planned with great thought and consideration for the resident's capabilities. The smiles on their faces when competing said it all, especially when the medals and trophy were presented. Many congratulations and a huge thank you to all at Southdowns for caring for our loved ones and us so professionally.

Some staff members cannot do enough for the residents, where other members just raise their eyebrows when asked for help and when you raise any concerns or issues, management just do not listen to you. Some residents do not get any interaction with the carers when they are being assisted with food and drink. Activities are non-existent and residents often claim they are bored.

The home has looked after my mother over the last 3-4years without any problems not being sorted out properly. She needs to be fully looked after now but at least we all can sleep in the knowledge she is being looked after properly.

My mum moved here from her current home to be with dad during the last days of her life. The staff could not do enough for my mum, my dad and our family, supporting us through this terrible time. My dad has always been well cared for and shown respect by all the staff here and we know he will continue to receive excellent care. I cannot fault any aspect of dads care here and would recommend this home for any relatives whose loved ones are experiencing dementia.

My mother was at Southdowns for over 10 years and died recently aged 92. When she went into the Home she was mobile but with rapidly progressing vascular dementia. The home provided a safe, comfortable and friendly environment for her and recently, during her rapid decline, they gave great attention and care to her medical needs and to her comfort. She was never ignored. My sister and I visited her almost every day and were always kept well informed of any medical issues. The interaction between the staff and her was exceptional. They also always made us feel very welcome and supported us during mum's dying days.

Every member of staff I have met has been friendly, efficient and helpful. They never rush their interaction with my mother, and always treat her with respect and kindness.

We (the entire family) feel so lucky to have found this home.

As a family, we are extremely pleased with the care that our mother has received at Southdowns. Staff are caring, compassionate, very experienced in looking after residents with varying needs. Our mother is always clean and neatly dressed. She is happy and contented which is all any of us could ever ask for. Nothing is ever too much trouble when making requests. Well done to everyone on gaining a "Good" CQC report.

Our Mother had been a resident at Southdowns Nursing Home, Hollington Park Road for approximately 4 months until her death. Whilst she was there she was treated with dignity and respect by the cheerful, friendly and professional staff. All the staff from top to bottom were caring and loving and extremely patient with all the residents. They showed the greatest care right to the end and we can't thank them enough for all they did. The food was excellent, plenty of it and tasty snacks between meals. I had a delicious 3 course Christmas lunch there with Mum. Mum had made a great improvement since leaving hospital, but ultimately her body had had enough and she passed away peacefully, with the outstanding staff giving her care right to the very end - even in the last hours when it was clear that Mum would not regain consciousness. Thank you, everyone.

Mum's care is second to none. The carers are brilliant and we couldn't wish for more. It is a very hard job and they cope so well. I'm kept in touch with all of her care and any problems. We are always made very welcome and we feel Mum is in safe hands.

Very pleased with how good this place is. Staffing levels very high and staff seem to be everywhere, I'm very impressed by that. They all care very much and there is a very clean and friendly atmosphere. I'm glad my mum's in this place. I know she's being well looked after to the highest standard possible. I couldn't be more pleased with the service they provide.

We've been very pleased with the care my father has received at Southdowns. Any comments/concerns we have are always addressed promptly. There's a strong management team in place and staff are really lovely. They genuinely care about residents. I haven't rated facilities/rooms as excellent but they are of a good standard. The key aspect of Southdowns is the level of care, that's what we want from a home.

My husband has been a resident at Southdowns Nursing Home for over 2 years. He has very limited cognitive ability but is always treated with the utmost respect and affection. He is very fond of the staff because they show him such kindness. After a difficult spell we now have an excellent management team in place. I have full confidence in their ability and would highly recommend Southdowns Nursing Home for residential care especially those suffering the effects of dementia.

Mum has been at Southdowns for over 2 years now. All the staff have become like family ans friends. Things go wrong (life is not perfect) but they all seem to have the one aim which is to look after the residents as best as they can and you can't ask more than that.

Kerry Ingram
Kerry IngramJob Title:Home Manager

Kerry is the Home Manager of Southdowns Nursing Home and Assistant Director for The Mulberry Community.

I dedicated my early adult life, to being a full-time mother to my 3 children. Once they reached a more independent age, I wanted to branch out and find my own independence and carve out my own career for the future.

I started work in children services as a Nursery Practitioner. I then changed direction and started working within the adult care sector - firstly domiciliary, then care home services.

In 2012, I started work at ‘Queen Mary’s Nursing Home ‘ which was to later become Mulberry House - Specialist Residential & Nursing Care. My first role was Senior Care Assistant. After about a year and a half of working night shifts, I changed to day shift, and this was when my progression really started.

It was quickly recognised that I naturally took a managerial lead in situations, and the support I received within the company was welcomed and valued.

I became the first Assistant Practitioner for the company, leading teams of staff and liaising more with external professionals.

I then took on the role of Unit Lead and completed my QCF level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care. This led to being appointed as the Deputy Manager of Mulberry House.

Working within the company for the last 11 years has not only allowed me to develop and grow my skill set, but it has also been the most rewarding 11 years of my career.

I am very excited to embark on the next stage of my journey as the Registered Manager of Southdowns Nursing Home and the Assistant Director of The Mulberry Community.

Roy Carley
Roy CarleyJob Title:Deputy ManagerJoined: 2023

Born and bred on a farm in the historic village of Bodiam surrounded by outstanding countryside and a backdrop of the picturesque Bodiam Castle led to the start of my career in hospitality at the local Inn. I worked there on and off for many years in several roles: Barman, Bar Manager, & Chef.

1989 Travelled to Australia, spending a year there, seeing the sights and picking up temporary work to fund my travels. On my return, I undertook a City & Guilds cookery course at the local college.

Following a move out of the countryside to St Leonards on Sea, I briefly worked for The Co-Op, British Telecom Operator Services, and the CSA, always keeping a casual bar job on the side.

1996 saw the opening of a new Motor Insurance Company, in Bexhill, and I was there for the set-up, starting as a Telesales Operator, rising through the ranks to Team Leader, Supervisor, Deputy Customer Service Manager, New Claims & Business Services Supervisor. I achieved an ILM management diploma, as well as CII certification. After 14 years there I was made redundant, so started looking for a new venture.

2010 I bought a café/restaurant in Bexhill and spent the next 3 years working hard to make it a success before selling it in 2013.

I took a few months out to re-energize then started temping in administration at Mais House Poppy Home in Bexhill, eventually being appointed Head of Administration. I then took on the role of Business Manager for a family-run care group that had homes in Surrey and Sussex- One of them being Queen Mary’s and Mulberry House. The company built a new home and I helped in the Commissioning of the Home, staffing and recruitment and dealt with enquiries, setting up the Bistro for public use and anything else that needed to be done. The Home was then sold after a year and I remained at the Home as Business & Hospitality Manager and did so for 6 years until I became tired of the travelling. That’s when I was made aware of the opportunity at Southdowns, met with Tara & Kerry, and the rest, as they say, is history.

I look forward to helping the Southdowns Team move onward and upward.
