I have been visiting my friend regularly since the end of May 2021. She has found it difficult to settle. We do not feel that reflects on Sunrise, who have made a great effort to accommodate her, and Covid restrictions have not helped the situation. We hope these will be lifted in the foreseeable future.

Reply from Ian Turnbull, General Manager at Eastbourne Gardens Care Home - Avery Collection

Sunrise of Eastbourne appreciate moving into a care home can be an unsettling time. This is why we take the time to engage with family members and friends of the resident to make the process as smooth as possible, to get to know the resident on a personal level. We look forward to helping your friend settle further and to enjoy a fulfilling life here at Sunrise.

My parents, who are both in their nineties, came to Sunrise for a two-week respite break. Both were particularly anxious about leaving their own home, and the need to isolate (under Covid rules) for up to 3 days after arrival. We were impressed by how kind and thoughtful the staff were in helping them prepare for their stay and giving them the reassurance they needed. They received a warm welcome on arrival, and the high standard of accommodation, excellent facilities and quality of care offered throughout their stay gave them the opportunity for the relaxing break they needed. I would highly recommend Sunrise to anyone looking for respite care.

We needed a care setting for Dad at Christmas and the height of the pandemic following a sudden bereavement. I have visited many care homes in the area and already knew the high standards of facilities and activities. The kindness and attention he has received demonstrate why Sunrise has an Outstanding review by CQC.

My mother came for respite care in reminiscence at a time of crisis for the family, following a fall and a recent diagnosis of dementia, which appears to be advanced in some areas.

Every part of our contact with the team, and your care for Mum was fantastic. Kind, supportive and understanding. You made what was a traumatic and difficult decision for us so much more bearable through your kind reassurance.

In my experience, Sunrise has an excellent community spirit which afforded my elderly friend most of the amenities, which she had lost through being on her own. She had things to do, assistance when she needed it, there were people around to chat to, and the food was marvellous - and in a beautiful environment.

The staff were wonderful - they were very understanding, patient, helpful and dignified at all times. They took their duties of looking after my friend very seriously, yet managed to keep a sense of humour too.

Sadly, my friend passed away, and their end-of-life care was excellent.

Thank you to all of you at Sunrise who made her last months safe and comfortable.

I only have positive comments re the kindness and professionalism we experienced when placing my mum in Sunrise Eastbourne following the sudden death of my father. From my first contact with the staff at Sunrise Eastbourne, I felt sure my mum's move would be a success. Due to Covid, we could not physically visit but were able to see her suite in a virtual tour which showed the generous room sizes and access to the garden. It was such a relief to be able to bring her own furniture in with her, familiar pieces, ornaments and pictures that reminded her of 'home' whilst she became accustomed to her new surroundings. She settled in so quickly, enjoying the social contact with the staff and residents and becoming part of a community. I liken it to her going off to Uni. New friends, new building and a new life whilst receiving the most appropriate care and encouragement to continue with her old hobbies. Her extended family have nothing but praise for Sunrise Eastbourne.

During difficult times, we were faced with no alternative but to find a safe haven for my husband’s mother (who is like a mother to me too). It was agony being unable to look round, or go into the homes we identified as possibly suitable. But, in the end, Sunrise of Eastbourne was chosen based on the fact we had previously looked around a different Sunrise Home and had been impressed.
Sunrise of Eastbourne has not let us down. They have provided exactly what was needed - a safe and caring haven, with excellent protocol regarding protecting their residents whilst keeping family informed at all times, and doing their very best to allow safe access to our relative. The management and staff have been so understanding, courteous and considerate, and we know everything possible is being done to ensure quality of life alongside safety.

The concierge team go out of their way to help in every way. Thank you to the whole team.

Had to get my mother into respite care quickly following a fall. She was assessed and in within a week, which was really appreciated given the current COVID restrictions. The care she has received has been excellent and the staff unfailingly professional and friendly. My only complaint is the lack of communication, but that is a minor niggle and easily overcome by my calling them on a regular basis for updates. Their director of community relations has gone over and above expectations in making sure that everything has gone smoothly during Mum's stay and I cannot thank him enough for his kindness during what has been a very trying time.

The fact that Sunrise of Eastbourne has remained entirely coronavirus-free to-date is so welcome but does not surprise me. Having reviewed dozens of care homes prior to my father joining this home, I could not find any in which I felt more confident for his comfort, well-being and safety. The staff are a delight, welcoming, friendly and incredibly professional. I have the highest praise for the current manager who has set extremely high standards and goes to great lengths to engage with resident's families on a frequent and regular basis, providing confidence in the care of our loved ones. A heartfelt Thank You.

I cannot fault Sunrise for the care they have taken over the peak period of the Covid-19 pandemic. They were meticulous in their preparations for every eventuality and, as the daughter of a 95-year-old resident, I have been kept fully informed by the weekly newsletter. It was reassuring to know Sunrise had a clear policy in place to immediately deal with any potential infection and that throughout they had managed, professionally and competently with all supply matters relating to PPE. This professionalism has not detracted from the caring, understanding and compassionate care provided by all staff. My mother could not have been in a safer or happier place.

Sunrise of Eastbourne have been so welcoming to my parents. We had to move them in during Lockdown and this caused many potential problems which the managers and the team smoothed away! I can’t praise all the carers and nurses enough. My parents have been welcomed and what could have been a tricky transition, was handled sensitively with great compassion.

I would highly recommend Sunrise Senior Living to anyone.

Both parents have resided at Sunrise Eastbourne since February 2019 and were welcomed into the caring and relaxed environment by all concerned. Although not an easy decision, and it did take some time for them both to settle; the assurances from the staff and the patience shown to them has meant that they can enjoy a calmer quality of life and have wonderful care given to them alongside the activities provided. Sunrise adopted a very strong procedure early on in the recent virus predicament and this has ensured all their residents and staff are safe and well-provided for within this time. There have been no cases and the Eastbourne Sunrise team should be very proud of themselves in achieving this. The communication links during this time, by phone, i-pads and regular emails have been well thought out and ensure that the contact with our parents has been constant and organised. I thoroughly recommend Sunrise Eastbourne and am very thankful to them for their kindness.
