My wife and I were extremely well greeted by the receptionist and all members of staff. They assisted us splendidly during our visit. We were very pleased with the manner in which the staff attended to my Brother, clearly looking after him very well. Many thanks to all the Sunrise Staff.

Always find it very pleasant to visit Mum at Sunrise. Very friendly front desk greetings and each member of staff are open and engaging. The premises are clean and colourful and very good to be able to use the bistro facilities. Never see any miserable or grumpy residents so all must be good in house.

Working in various care homes in Canada I was extremely impressed on my first visit to my father's new care home in Eastbourne. Wide corridors, lots of use of natural lights, physical and two-dimensional reminders of times past as well as staff who are evidently client/patient conscious.
I "upgraded"
my father to this facility only a few months ago. A decision I can honestly say that I am so glad that I made. Congratulations to staff and management.

From the outset the staff at Sunrise of Eastbourne have shown great affection respect and professionalism to the resident.
In difficult circumstances as they were also caring for her son, who was fatally ill. This professionalism was retained.

Our friend settled unexpectedly well into Sunrise of Eastbourne. He has made suggestions that have been taken on board about food activities etc.
There is room for more resident involvement, particularly with those who are still quite active. One of the senior managers finds interaction with residents
and visitors difficult.

I have spent several days visiting my mother at Sunrise in Eastbourne. I have been hugely impressed with the friendliness of the staff towards my mother, taking the time to chat to her on regular occasions; all staff I observed are very attentive and patient, always smiling and positive. The level of
detailed recording of actions taken to care for Mum is impressive. The facilities, entertainment, food and ambience are all top quality - it felt more like a 5-star hotel than a care home. The staff and management are very professional, always willing to talk at length to me.

A lovely place, looks like a grand hotel. Staff are friendly and caring.
My mother entered the home in December 2017. The staff were very understanding in a difficult situation. Mother has settled in very well with no problems. We have had daily contact to begin with, staff always giving us time to
discuss any concerns we may have had.
Sunrise has a great atmosphere, a very positive, can-do attitude and residents look very happy and relaxed.

I was greatly impressed with Sunrise of Eastbourne.
It is a very attractive building with lovely gardens.
The food is excellent with lots of options. Beautifully presented, healthy and delicious.
But most importantly the care is second to none.
I was treated with dignity and respect at all times
by kind and compassionate carers.
As I have MS my body is not always easy to move-particularly in the morning-but the carers were patient and kind at all times.
Quite simply if you looked up the definition of the word care in a dictionary and you will see Sunrise of Eastbourne care home.
Thank you all very much.
I have returned home feeling stronger both mentally and physically.

My husband, who has advanced Alzheimer's, arrived at Sunrise after 10 days in hospital having had a fall, and subsequently a seizure. Technically he was categorised as palliative and requiring end of life care. My perception of the staff is that they have extraordinary patience but also demonstrate
genuine compassion and I'm sure that this has contributed to my husband's growing strength and energy. After just a month his medication was reviewed and it has been arranged for the Speech and Language Therapy team to assess him for a return to normal food. I sense a positive culture at Sunrise and feel confident that my husband's needs are, despite the challenges, being met as well as they can be. I have no hesitation in recommending Sunrise for dementia care.

I am extremely happy with the care my mother is receiving at Sunrise. The whole process of trying to find permanent residential care is very traumatic and we viewed many care homes in our search, none could compare to Sunrise. The layout has been thoughtfully and creatively designed to be a stimulating
environment for someone suffering from dementia, and the attention-to-detail felt truly person-centred. The whole process was so smooth and staff have been helpful and supportive to our family every step of the way. It gives my sister and I great comfort to know our mum is being well looked after in a place that feels 'alive' and stimulating. In this area, I don't think there is any other service that can compare to the warm, welcoming and person-centred quality care that Sunrise offers.

We are extremely pleased with the standard of care over the 9 months my mother-in-law has been a resident. All staff are friendly and helpful. There are lots of activities for the residents, including cooking, music, singing and trips out. Recently she has been involved in serving in the shop in Reminiscence
with support from the hosts, which she enjoys immensely. She is very happy and content. We are pleased we chose Sunrise for her dementia care.

The service overall is fair to good.
The quality of the care and nursing staff is very good indeed.
The leisure facilities are good - and every effort is made to promote their use.
Although overall, our experience so far has fallen short of our expectations.
We believe, from the opinions expressed
by others, that this probably reflects a commonly held view.
In summary, probably good on the whole but certainly could be better.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.390)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.390) out of 10 for Eastbourne Gardens Care Home - Avery Collection is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 18 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.671 for Eastbourne Gardens Care Home - Avery Collection is calculated as follows: ( (164 Excellents x 5) + (36 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 213 Ratings = 4.671
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.719 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Eastbourne Gardens Care Home - Avery Collection is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 107 registered maximum number of service users is 21.4. 17 Positive Reviews ÷ 21.4 = 0.794
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
