Ashton House has been absolutely amazing in their care for my Mum. Prior to covid 19 my family and I had to give Mum the awful news that our Brother (her Son) had passed away. It was a very difficult time for us all and the staff were amazing keeping an extra close eye on our grieving Mum. When it was
time for the funeral, they escorted my Mum myself and my Daughter to the funeral and made sure that we had a carer at her side the whole afternoon as well as the designated driver for the day. It was honestly amazing as they went above and beyond on this day even helping us to get mum dressed and ready to leave. They made sure that they kept an extra close eye on her after the funeral also. Then a couple of weeks later came the lockdown which was so hard as mum and us as a family were still grieving but we couldn’t get to see her. That was just the most awful feeling. It was so scary that we couldn’t look out for her but the home kept us updated every step of the way. Amazing.

We are so grateful to the staff at Hazelwood for the excellent end of life care our mother received in the short time she was at Ashton House. We were made to feel extremely welcome and were able to spend precious hours with her during her final days. Nursing staff controlled her pain and ensured she
was comfortable, and we would have no hesitation in recommending to friends and family.

My Mum has been a resident at Ashton House for the past 19 months. I am happy to know that she is incredibly well looked after by the amazing, caring staff who look after her every need. The activities team ensure that there is always something of interest to occupy residents. A big thank you to all
the staff at Ashton House.

The whole team at Ashton House should be proud of themselves. They are all doing an amazing job and I am forever grateful. It is a huge relief to know that Dad is being so well looked after in very capable hands. This makes a challenging part of a life journey so much more bearable.
The Nursing team
keep me constantly updated on any changes so that we can ensure Dad's Cancer Care regime is adhered to. The Care and Nursing Teams are the most compassionate, passionate and loving group of people I have had the pleasure to meet.
When I walk into Ashton House, I am greeted like a member of family and asked how I am. I look into the lounge and see carers sitting with residents caring for them with utmost dignity, patience and respect. It is a vision of humanity at its best.
Keep up the wonderful atmosphere and standards.

My brother was cared for at Ashton House for nearly three years. He had multiple medical problems and some challenging behaviours. The staff of Ashton House showed care and support for him throughout his time. What impresses me most about Ashton House is the way the staff interact with the clients.
In many care homes I have visited, staff spend time talking to each other and/or engaging with screens. At Ashton House, while maintaining records appropriately, the staff talk to clients and make sure they have what they need. They do their very best to give clients choices, especially over food and drink and activities, even when they are challenging or lacking understanding.
Once the building work is completed and the garden refurbished, the facilities will be top-notch. I would be happy to recommend Ashton House to anyone in a similar position of needing a care home for a relative in poor health and advancing dementia. Thank you, everyone, at Ashton House.

My sister has been a resident at Ashley House care home since April this year. Since the first day, she has been welcomed and surrounded by her own pictures and ornaments. Her room has become her new home. She gets on very well with the other residents and from the manager to the helpers, all the staff
are kind and considerate. The amount of activities and quality of them is outstanding and the main reason this family chose this home. We take her out often and she has never not wanted to go back. We are delighted with her care 100%.

Both my parents have been cared for at Ashton House. My mother passed away earlier this year. Our family have received wonderful support since my parents became residents last year. My parents and latterly my father had and have fantastic care and kindness. Always treated with respect and dignity. It

There is a master/servant relationship between owners/staff etc.
Decisions are made by owners rather than with all parties.
Communication is poor, information reading within staff/groups is not shared across the organisation. Relatives are not kept informed of plans affecting residents e.g building
work, safe guarding policy is not always followed. I had a complaint lodged against me instead of my and my husbands needs being addressed. I commend unit managers, activities, staff and team leaders.

My mother was admitted to Ashton House Nursing & Residential Home in August 2016. After initially having difficulties settling down, the kindness of the staff helped her to adjust to her new surroundings. At first, she didn't want to leave her room but with the help of the staff, she now goes down to
the day room. She also enjoys attending the entertainment afternoons. When we visit her she seems very happy and that is all we can wish for.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.625)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.625) out of 10 for Ashton House Nursing & Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 38 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.625 for Ashton House Nursing & Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (333 Excellents x 5) + (79 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (16 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 437 Ratings = 4.625
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashton House Nursing & Residential Home is based on 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 100 registered maximum number of service users is 20, which has been reached with 36 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
