My mother is cared for to a very high standard. Due to covid, it has been a difficult time not being able to have close contact with my mother. The staff have been so kind and supported my mother through this difficult time. They have become part of her family especially the staff member who ensures
my mother has daily activities. My mother loves the sea on her birthday, they took her to the Shoreham so she could see the sea and had a birthday tea with a birthday cake. I feel very confident my mother is looked after with dignity respect and I thank all the staff for their support.

Though we only had a chance to get to know Ashton House and its lovely staff for 4 months, we were deeply touched by the wonderful care and compassion shown to my husband, especially in his last days. We were enormously comforted that he was not alone in his last hours. Deepest thanks to all the staff.

Pleasant surrounding. House is homely, the garden will be lovely. There is a calm, peaceful atmosphere and staff very welcoming from the beginning of the stay. Staff ready to answer any queries or advise if any procedures to be taken. Plenty of activities in which to get involved.

I am only writing a review because I am encouraged to do so on every relative newsletter so here it is. I have been relatively satisfied with Ashton House in the last two years she has been a resident, I have no concerns with the care she receives from the care staff.
But I have found communication
to be poor throughout this two year period and since the start of COVID it has been appalling. I understand that homes have been under massive pressure but communication to relatives was non-existent and when I do call up with queries, no one seems to know the history as there seem to have been a number of admin staff taken on all at once who have been dropped in at the deep end. There have been issues which have now led me to make a formal complaint. The managers seem to pass all queries on to the nurses, rather than dealing with them themselves. If it was not an ordeal for my mum I would have moved her to a different home with better leadership.

My dear mother was a resident at Ashton House for three years before passing in April 2020.
For the three years at the home, my mother was wonderfully cared for by each and every member of staff. Initially, we did not want her to go into a home but soon realized that Ashton House was the best place
for her. Every effort was made to treat my mum with care, love and respect throughout her stay there. We visited mum most days and as a family, we were all lucky to be shown support from the staff who we soon came to see as our own family.
Unfortunately, we were not able to be with mum when she died. However, we took great comfort knowing she was not alone and surrounded by the same staff who had loved her and cared for her as if she was their own mother. The grief they felt when she died was similar to ours.
We can not recommend the staff at Ashton House. They make the nursing home a wonderful place for people to see out their days in a loving, respectful and safe environment. Thank you.

My mum has been in Ashton House for just over a year. In that period I have found the home to always be clean. All the staff who work there whether they look after my mum or not are very friendly. If I have any concerns they quickly find out the answers for me also if mum ever sees the doctor. I am
always informed on the same day about their findings even if there was nothing wrong. This has been very comforting as I didn't see her for 3 months due to Covid-19.

Dad has been in Ashton House for just over a year now and we feel blessed every day for the love and care he is shown all the time. It is a welcoming place, visitors are always welcome, it is clean and well maintained and the staff there are truly amazing. They always have a smile on their faces and
show nothing but kindness towards the residents in their care. It is a fun place too! Lots of music, dancing and activities going on all the time. Lots of trips out too, something we know Dad really really enjoys. We would recommend this care home to anyone.

My mother became bed ridden as her cancer progressed. Unable to care for her adequately at home we chose Ashton House. I am so pleased that she is always clean, comfortable and happy in her surroundings. I feel she is cared for far better than I could do at home. The nurses all seem to know who she
is and what her condition is. Everyone I have met is friendly and seems very caring. I am so pleased I chose Ashton House.

My husband died in April 2020, having lived here since November 2018. He took a long time to settle, and the staff were infinitely patient and caring, and so supportive of me and other family members. The arrangements made for hospital visits were always good, and the staff member who went with us felt
like a friend, as did many of the others.

The staff at Ashton House really have been second to none. Sadly my mum passed away in April but she had been a resident at Ashton House for the past two years. I can not fault them. They took into account her cultural needs, kept in touch with us as a family and most importantly genuinely cared for
my mum.
The staff were always thinking of ways to include my mother even when she had a decline in her ability to participate in activities. They even celebrated cultural events that were important to her and invited us as a family. We had a lovely Diwali party there.
It’s very difficult to make the decision to have a parent go into a care home but I really feel that my mothers needs were well cared for at Ashton House. We were always included in her care and provisions were made for us to see her whenever we wanted. They really are a lovely bunch of people and I’m grateful to have had them care for mum, especially in her final days when we couldn’t be there due to covid.

Ashton House has been absolutely amazing in their care for my Mum. Prior to covid 19 my family and I had to give Mum the awful news that our Brother (her Son) had passed away. It was a very difficult time for us all and the staff were amazing keeping an extra close eye on our grieving Mum. When it was
time for the funeral, they escorted my Mum myself and my Daughter to the funeral and made sure that we had a carer at her side the whole afternoon as well as the designated driver for the day. It was honestly amazing as they went above and beyond on this day even helping us to get mum dressed and ready to leave. They made sure that they kept an extra close eye on her after the funeral also. Then a couple of weeks later came the lockdown which was so hard as mum and us as a family were still grieving but we couldn’t get to see her. That was just the most awful feeling. It was so scary that we couldn’t look out for her but the home kept us updated every step of the way. Amazing.

We are so grateful to the staff at Hazelwood for the excellent end of life care our mother received in the short time she was at Ashton House. We were made to feel extremely welcome and were able to spend precious hours with her during her final days. Nursing staff controlled her pain and ensured she
was comfortable, and we would have no hesitation in recommending to friends and family.

The whole team at Ashton House should be proud of themselves. They are all doing an amazing job and I am forever grateful. It is a huge relief to know that Dad is being so well looked after in very capable hands. This makes a challenging part of a life journey so much more bearable.
The Nursing team
keep me constantly updated on any changes so that we can ensure Dad's Cancer Care regime is adhered to. The Care and Nursing Teams are the most compassionate, passionate and loving group of people I have had the pleasure to meet.
When I walk into Ashton House, I am greeted like a member of family and asked how I am. I look into the lounge and see carers sitting with residents caring for them with utmost dignity, patience and respect. It is a vision of humanity at its best.
Keep up the wonderful atmosphere and standards.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.621)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.621) out of 10 for Ashton House Nursing & Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 34 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 32 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.621 for Ashton House Nursing & Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (302 Excellents x 5) + (65 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (16 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 391 Ratings = 4.621
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashton House Nursing & Residential Home is based on 32 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 100 registered maximum number of service users is 20, which has been reached with 32 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
