My father-in-law passed away here two days ago, after two months of end-of-life care. The home and staff were attentive and caring throughout. The home is clean, warm, and safe. It’s in a pleasant location adjoining a lovely park. A choice of food was always given, and special requests were granted.
I’d highly recommend this home, and wouldn’t hesitate to use it again. They let us stay overnight twice, to be with him in his final hours. Thank you to everyone at Ashton House.

I am grateful for all that Ashton House was able to provide for my father-in-law in the last months of his life. They rescued us from a tricky situation where he had been evicted from a much glossier retirement home. Ashton House demonstrated clearly that the most important aspect of care is quality
caregiving rather than interior design. The patience, kindness and professionalism of all the staff, shown to both us and him, was much appreciated. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Ashton House.

My experience here was amazing and well rested. Everyone is just wonderful. I loved being here with the staff, residents and managers. To receive such a lovely, warm welcome from everyone involved, I will be sad to go because it has been a wonderful experience. Receiving my medications has been spot
on from everyone. The staff are doing a fantastic job. A huge thank you to the activities team for taking me and picking me up from work every day. Thank you very much for looking after me! The activities that are put on are fantastic.

Staff are always welcoming and polite, show dignity to Residents and families
at all times. Staff are always on hand if needed. Activities are laid on regularly which gives the residents the stimulation needed. The food is good and the home is kept spotless and safe. The residents rooms are nice and
roomy and my mum has a lovely outlook onto planters outside of her window. The home is always nice and warm. Cannot fault anything and I am so pleased that my mum is well looked after.
I looked at many other care homes before Ashton House and none of them came close to Ashton House.
In the summer the BBQs are laid on for the residents and their families, the food is beautiful and plenty of it, entertainers engage well with the residents and make them feel special, the staff join in and dress up the residents as well as themselves and seem to enjoy themselves and get on well with everyone.
The atmosphere is always pleasant and a lot of hard work is put in to make you feel welcome.

My mother has been at Ashton House for a few months following a long stay in hospital. She has settled in very well and the staff have been wonderful. They keep me informed of any concerns they have and I visit whenever I can during the week and weekend. The staff are always friendly and welcoming,
the food is good and the entertainment is well organised.
I trust the staff to do the best for my mother and take good care of her.
I would highly recommend Ashton House.

My wife has been a resident on the Hazlewood wing for the past ten months. On admission her behaviour was very disturbed following a difficult hospital stay but the initial one to one care she received was an important factor in settling her in. From day one I have been impressed by the professional
and empathetic attitude of all the staff I have met. This is reinforced at every visit by the supportive welcome given at the reception desk and also the welcome offers of tea and coffee to share with my wife.

My mother has been in Ashton House for almost a year. I cannot rate both the home and staff highly enough. My mum had lived with my husband and me for 50 years and it was an enormous wrench to turn her care over to someone else. The staff are very caring and excellent with making my mum feel safe
and secure. I am kept up to date with all aspects of my mum's care and I know she is safe and well looked after. I would recommend here for anyone who has a relative to be really looked after.

When entering the reception, there is always a lovely warm welcome. Mum was cared for in the Hazelwood Nursing Wing, all staff there are excellent. The nursing care is thorough, with regular calls and updates when you come to visit. Everyone has a great rapport with the residents, we met the carers,
cleaners, laundry staff and those who bring the meals, all are very respectful and kind. It is lovely to have some Gardens so close, Mum loved her summer walks there. Mum commented that she would sometimes like her food a bit hotter with more fresh vegetables and less fish and chips, that wasn't her favourite meal.

My mother was cared for during the last four weeks of her life and passed away peacefully on 12/02/2022. She was cared for in the Hazelwood nursing unit at Ashton House. Throughout her time there she was treated with the highest level of care from all of the nursing/carers and domiciliary team not forgetting
the excellent kind caring reception team. All members of staff were friendly caring and empathetic treating my mum with the utmost dignity and respect at all times. The staff went out of their way in making me and my three daughters feel welcome, they provided a mattress and blankets to my daughter so she could stay in the nights to ensure my mum was not on her own. Making countless pots of tea and snacks for all of us which gave us the time to spend with her in her final days. Due to the excellent team on the Hazelwood unit, my mum had a peaceful death and we have lovely memories of the last days with her and want to thank all the team for everything they do.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.625)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.625) out of 10 for Ashton House Nursing & Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 38 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.625 for Ashton House Nursing & Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (333 Excellents x 5) + (79 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (16 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 437 Ratings = 4.625
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashton House Nursing & Residential Home is based on 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 100 registered maximum number of service users is 20, which has been reached with 36 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
