My mother came to Glen Arun Nursing Home for end-of-life care after six months in hospital. Glen Arun was amazing - spotlessly clean, brilliant carers and nothing was too much trouble. I would thoroughly recommend this home!

When the time comes to place a much loved person into a home it is a very hard and sad decision, unfortunately this time came with my Mum who broke her hip and was in the latter stages of Alzheimer's. The moment I met the manager and discussed my concerns and needs my worries were put to ease. I was
anxious that she would be just left in her room like a previous home but this was never the case and they gaged it perfectly her requirements; hence why she looked so much happier. I have only high praise for everyone that works there, the fabulous manager, nurses, carers, chef, caterers and also the lovely laundry lady. Mum always looked immaculate which meant a lot to me as before Alzheimer's took a hold this was very important to her. I cannot think of any negatives - yes maybe the rooms look a little dated, however, they are spotlessly clean and there is nothing stopping you making it feel more homely. So not really a negative, just an observation. Thank you so very much.

My mum has been in Glen Arun since February 2022. We were very worried about her when she first came here but she has shown much improvement generally. The team are wonderful - they look after Mum very well and take the time to have a laugh and a joke with her which raises her spirits, as well as giving
her excellent care and nursing. Decisions about Mum's care are discussed fully and we are always involved. They have also supported us as a family, taking the time to listen and showing empathy.
The manager is excellent at liaising by phone, email and in-person, giving updates and information.
I am so grateful that Mum is in Glen Arun, I would fully recommend it to anyone.

This is my mother's second year at Glen Arun Nursing Home. She is 97 and following a broken hip and a bout of Covid, she is now at Glen Arun and doubly incontinent and quite severely cognitively impaired. She needs constant help, even to eat and drink. The staff at Glen Arun are wonderful; very attentive,
kind and patient; and very skilled at raising her spirits and making her laugh. She is never left alone in her room for long and her wishes and her dignity are always respected. As a family, it gives us great peace of mind to know that my mother is so well cared for.

My mother has been a resident at Glen Arun for many years and throughout her time there the care she has received has been extremely good. The staff are very caring and considerate and have often gone the extra mile to look after Mum. I have always been made welcome at the home whenever I visit although
obviously there have been restrictions due to Covid. I considered myself lucky that Mum was at Glen Arun during the period when we were unable to visit as I felt reassured and confident that Mum would be looked after well even under difficult circumstances. The home is good at contacting and liaising with me if there are any problems or concerns with Mum.
I cannot comment on the current activity programme but in the past, prior to Covid, it has been excellent. Mum’s room and en-suite facilities are always clean whenever I visit.
I feel that Glen Arun is a warm, caring and welcoming home for Mum and I am pleased that I chose the home for her.

Very pleased and relieved to report that my sister has settled well and happily at Glen Arun and her general health and appearance have much improved. Her care seems to be excellent and the staff take a lot of trouble to be friendly and talk to her all the time. What we can see looks very clean and
she loves the meals. Because of Covid restriction we have only seen the conservatory and bedroom. The staff we have encountered are very pleasant and helpful.

The staff were very welcoming and took the time to get to know my brother. The nursing team were extremely competent with his medical needs. The management wasn't above and beyond. Very caring and efficient with my brother's care and discharge home. I am so grateful for the support they also gave me.

Due to Covid restriction, I am unable to comment on some facilities.
I am very pleased with Glen Arun Horsham. The staff are very pleasant and helpful with my sister-in-law who is very happy there.
The food is varied and she loves it. The room is always clean and tidy as seen on rare visits. We have
only been in the conservatory for our visits.

My mother was admitted to Glen Arun in mid December. She was settled in very well from her previous private dwelling. My mother is bedridden and unable to do much for herself. Glen Arun have coped very well with these circumstances which can't be easy for anyone. The care and food etc, are all good
to very good.
I note the fees have quite a hefty increase. I note also, a massive new extension is to be built at the rear.

My mother has received excellent care from all staff. The manager has spoken with me and explained everything to me also answered any questions or worries I might have to my complete satisfaction and understanding. They have all kept my mother pain free and treated her with respect and compassion. I
cannot praise Glen Arun enough.

I will always be thankful to the staff and General Manager at the Glen Arun Care Home. My mother, who suffered from severe dementia and required assistance for the most basic of functions, spent her last 3 months in this home where she was happy and well cared for by the fantastic staff. With the family
visiting almost daily, we were always made to feel welcome by the accommodating team and could clearly see the care and dignity with which the residents were treated. My mother always appeared well-kempt and content. The home, complete with a lovely garden, was clean and had plenty of activities to help entertain the residents. This was not the first home we chose but it was the last, I could not recommend Glen Arun highly enough, it was all we could want.

The care given to my mother in the six months here gave our family complete peace of mind. Management and staff all do an excellent job in their roles, and I would not hesitate to recommend this care home, in pleasant surroundings with a good activity programme. Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions,
staff were working under difficult circumstances, but well done to all. The proposed building works will make this home even better.

Glen Arun looked after my mother with extreme care for six months. All staff very caring and helpful. Both management and administration were always available to discuss issues. Nice home with pleasant surroundings/grounds. In normal circumstances, good activities programme, but unfortunately due to
Covid, many had to be cancelled. My mother felt safe and secure, and I would have no hesitations in recommending Glen Arun. The new building plans can only be a bonus.

I've been impressed by Glen Arun. They've helped Dad really settle in, and he keeps saying how well he's being looked after. All the staff are very caring and approachable, and I feel his nursing needs are well provided for. Also, the garden is lovely to sit out in to visit with family.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.642) out of 10 for Glen Arun Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.817 for Glen Arun Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (128 Excellents x 5) + (22 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 153 Ratings = 4.817
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.825 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Glen Arun Nursing Home is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 57 registered maximum number of service users is 11.4, which has been reached with 13 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
