A purpose-built single storey care home, Barchester Kingsland House Care Home has a seaside location between Worthing and Brighton. Kingsland House benefits from plenty of local amenities yet within easy reach of London, the south coast and sheltered by the South Downs.

Staff offer first-class 24-hour nursing care provided by the care team including qualified nurses to ensure expert care for all residents at Kingsland House.

The Bluebell unit provides general nursing care where all rooms are ensuite and couples can be accomodated in double rooms.

A Memory Lane Community offers warm, stimulating, friendly and safe specialist care for those living with dementia. Life skills kitchens encourage residents to maintain daily activities, mobility and choice.

The team of highly-qualified and attentive staff focus on the individual needs of residents with a tailored care plan for each person. The team at Kingsland work hard to ensure that their dedication can be seen across the board - with home made food and levels of hospitality. Activities are arranged around both group and individual needs determined by the interests of residents. Regular music therapy sessions are enjoyed by residents.

Completely unhappy with my mum's care, not being washed until later in the day, and food being left on a trolley cold as mum was unable to feed herself. No pain medication was given throughout September, the room was not cleaned, rubbish was not emptied. The alarm bell was found on the floor or on the
chair beside the bed when Mum could not gain access to it. Care needs not being carried out.

While I soon discovered that the staff were all efficient, kind and helpful, I found many puzzling deficiencies found only by chance that there are residents who are not deficient in mental attributes. Mixing with them would have made a very different experience. I would not choose to come again.
On
the plus side: Afternoon entertainment, beautiful gardens, availability of drinks and snacks etc. (If I could find where they were). Availability of reading material, picture books.
On the downside:
1. Asked for a doctor when I developed a hacking cough. No medical found though I was told that one was 'coming' later, resorted to trickery to get a doctor.
2: Loss of clothing from the room, was told it had been sent to the laundry, never seen again.
3: Clean towel provided, disappeared unused ('gone to the laundry').
4: Toilet not flushing adequately.
5: Liquid soap of poor quality and hard to access.
6: Bed hard-edged and difficult to rise from.
7: Left for home still with a hacking cough.

The care home was under new management when Dad moved in seven months ago. I have to say that a majority of staff are all helpful, kind and considerate. Dad seems to have settled more now, and the activities and personal-centred approach from the activities coordinator couldn't be better. Management,
admin and nurses, especially, are very approachable. I feel the cleaning could be improved, but apart from that, I am pleased with Dad's care at present.

My dad spent a week in Kingsland House Care Home for respite care and both he and us were over the moon with the level of care he received. All staff members were so kind and thoughtful and nothing was too much trouble. I would definitely use them again if needed.

In general, the home is good, in the past the standard fluctuated very much, it has much improved. There still is a lack of consistency in the level of care. But in general, the staff are kind and my mother is taken care of. I think more could be done for my relative but all things seem to take time.
Most staff are good. I feel my mother is safe here. Telephoning is an issue and friends and family give up ringing at the time, not enough staff. There is a cheery atmosphere which is good.

Generally, staff go above and beyond to care for residents and make it feel like home. The activity coordinators are brilliant. Sometimes the care assistants lack attention to detail. My dad's new glasses were put in the wash by mistake and broke. Perhaps the pockets should be checked before removing
them from the linen basket.

How the high reviews get through is a mystery! Have repeatedly pointed out cleanliness problems, bins not being emptied for over a week, bedrooms with food trod into carpets not being cleaned, and ants in bedrooms, which staff states happens on an annual basis. I witnessed my mother sitting in her own
urine/faeces, not to have incontinence pads being changed, with faeces on bumper pads on the bed for weeks on end! I asked if my mother may have had a stroke, and the Dr was not called until over 24 hours later, who requested blood tests, but according to the home, these were never done. Since then I have not been allowed to visit or talk to my mother for the last 5 weeks and 5 days of her life! Inhumane on both my mother's and my part as we are very close. Most of the staff are lovely, but most are leaving, with only agency staff left, who do not have a clue who they are talking about! If this gets online it will be a miracle, don't put your relative here. My mother died 1/12/22, two hours after I was finally allowed to see her.

I visit this home regularly. The management team are always friendly. I visited on an afternoon when there was a singer there and the residents loved it. The manager came down and danced with some of them which was a lovely sight. The staff are always happy and interact with the residents. The home
is clean and inviting. I would recommend Kingsland from my experience as a visitor.

From day one, the staff have been friendly, helpful and welcoming. The room is lovely and clean, and things were rearranged to cater for Mum's needs. Entertainment really y good and engaging for the residents, especially during the Jubilee celebration. Food always looks and smells delicious. Mum is
always treated with respect and is always clean and tidy. Management is very approachable and helpful. Thank you to all staff.

Staff are not appreciated or respected by management or higher staff. Overheard manager shouting at staff and telling them how bad of carers they are and wouldn’t give them a reference in future. Staff constantly changing and now I can see why, with management like this.

We have a care award event every year and have put forward a variety of staff to receive such an award from Kingsland House. As a company we always supply a factual reference for any employee. We are always happy to discuss any issues raised and take all feedback seriously as we constantly strive to build a team who feel valued and work well together. Surroundings are important to my Mother so the high standard of decor and the welcoming reception area with tea, coffee and cakes available was perfect for her. The range of activities on offer is very good and there is usually something that the resident, whatever their ability, can participate in.
The staff are hard-working, caring and friendly, and although there has been a turnover in part due to Covid-19, I understand that the company has recruited. Going forward we have been told that each resident will be allocated a keyworker which will improve communication with relatives. Understandably, as with any care home, there have been a few issues along the way but the manager always has a listening ear and things are usually sorted quickly. Visiting during the pandemic has been enabled and welcomed wherever possible. I'm sure the residents are looking forward to spending time in the colourful gardens as the weather improves.

Kingsland House has a warm, caring feeling, right across the home. Staff are friendly, smile all the time and build warm relationships with residents. They are keen to get to know each person as an individual, including likes/dislikes, and personal interests. The level of care is very good, and careful
records are kept. Nursing staff and senior carers make time to talk to relatives and listen to any concerns. The single-story building eases any worries about the use of stairs. The home provides a light and bright environment, always well kept. Meals and snacks are generous and freshly made. There is a busy range of activities across the week, well planned to appeal to a variety of interests.

There have been some small issues but once I had spoken to the manager it was always followed up and sorted. The staff are very caring. The home is very clean and well presented. It has a very friendly and warm atmosphere on arrival.

We moved my dad here from another home, due to the fact that it is all on one floor, the corridors are wide and bright, the rooms look out onto gardens, the dining room has tables laid with white table cloths, knives and forks, the sitting rooms are pleasant, airy, well furnished, the bedrooms are nicely
decorated and overall it is very reminiscent of a modern hotel.
A few months after Dad moved in, he is putting on weight, seems healthy (he has serious dementia), likes his surroundings, enjoys the view of the flower bed outside his window, is living in a lovely home that does not leave me feeling guilty when I say goodbye. There is a bird table outside his window, but he is usually more interested in the pigeons and seagulls that sit on the chimney (looking for warmth we think, now that winter is approaching). Overall, I am very pleased that my Mum found this home for him as the staff are kind and considerate, enjoy his personality and treat him with respect.

Hi, my name is Ana and I am the General Manager at Kingsland House. Myself and the team are looking forward to welcoming you into our home.


My career in healthcare begun in 2015 and since then I have had a variety of roles in care homes, from registered nurse progressing my career to senior nurse, clinical lead and home manager. My experiences in various settings have helped me develop my knowledge and skills to improve people’s life in the care home environment.
I have also acquired a level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership in adult care, which has helped me manage my teams well and drive change.


I am very dedicated to the people we support as well as their families and the staff, and I believe that working in partnership provides the best outcomes.

I have been a head chef for over 20 years and with Barchester at Kingsland House since 2024.


it is truly rewarding catering for our residents, family and friends who all comment on our lovely food.
The responsibility is high however so are the rewards and satisfaction from caring for our resident's catering needs and I wouldn't change it for the world.

Hi, my name is Theresa, and I have worked at Kingsland House since 2010. I have worked in various roles and now as an Activities Assistant. I love my job, as every day is a new adventure with the residents.

I love working at Kingsland House and have been here since 2019. It is a 'home from home' environment. I am currently studying for my Diploma in Health and Social Care and the Senior Healthcare program with Barchester which enables me to give the best possible care to my residents. I work in Adur Unit and it feels like everyone is my family. Making sure the residents have the best possible care is my priority every day.


I am also a Speak Up Champion.
