Really nice to see when we come to visit Dad we now get a choice of tea and coffee. Also, the bonus of cake or biscuits. They used to be cleared away before we arrived previously.
Also, just wanted to say all staff in Memory Lane are just lovely.

Many thanks

How people are still rating this home well is beyond me and I hope that nobody experiences the same pain and suffering my nan and family did at the hands of this home.
No pain relief was given in the first month there. Nan was left in a dark room, not washed for days, the room was not cleaned because the staff didn’t like going in Nan's room because she ‘shouted’- staff obviously need training in what Lewy body dementia is. Manual handling is awful, staff turnover is beyond a joke and the manager, well, rude and obnoxious. Unprofessional staff, no response to bells being rang, we waited 35 minutes (that included 3 prompts from myself) for someone to come and help with Nan. The day Nan died we were not even offered a cup of tea. I could go on with many different examples of failings from this home.

Would not recommend this home to anyone as would not want anyone else to go through what we did. Sold the dream and unfortunately, we lived a nightmare.

My father entered Barchester Kingsland House Care Home in November 2023 following a stroke the previous August and a period in NHS hospitals. He was unable to walk and regretted losing his independence. Kingsland made him welcome and his room was light and sunny, although 'tight' for manoeuvring a hoist and wheelchair. We appreciated Kingsland redecorating part of the room and supplying an electric air mattress. Initially, Dad complained of delays between calling for assistance and it arriving but he slept and hallucinated a great deal and it was difficult to separate his imaginings from reality. Dad had limited control of his limbs and I believe, minor cuts and bruises resulting from this were dealt with properly by the staff. Both food and activities were of a good standard but as Dad declined, he could participate less and less in both. The admin staff, nurses and care assistants were all friendly and communicative, gave very supportive help to Dad and gave good feedback about Dad and how his care could be improved. Overall, my sister and I were very pleased with the care Dad received at Kingsland and would like to thank the staff involved. Dad died on 24th April 2024.

I think the (current) management and care staff are fabulous. They go above and beyond their care of duty.
The changes the current manager has implemented have made a huge positive impact on the home.

I have nothing but thanks and admiration for the entire team at Barchester Kingsland House Care Home.

My mum has been living at Kingsland House since September 2022. In that time there have been a lot of changes in managers and staff, which is why it's not a full five-star review. The new manager and all the staff there work hard to provide a positive environment. I asked my mum today what score she wanted to give so this is based on her feedback too.
Positives - new manager is genuinely changing things so that residents are both happy and asked about what works for them. Any questions I ask are answered. The staff are friendly and helpful and my mum has settled in well.
Feedback - it can feel difficult to find people sometimes to help with things, but I think this is true of any care home.

We are happy and we can see that Mum is happy and has a good relationship with a lot of the staff there. It's also a friendly environment to visit and there are rooms there you can book for family gatherings.

When it became clear mum needed to be in a care home we looked around for a place we felt confident she would feel looked after well and feel comfortable. Kingsland House ticked all the boxes. During mums stay I can honestly say I was very impressed with the quality of care and professionalism of all the staff. I am very grateful to you all for helping mum final few years be as comfortable and peaceful as possible.

Completely unhappy with my mum's care, not being washed until later in the day, and food being left on a trolley cold as mum was unable to feed herself. No pain medication was given throughout September, the room was not cleaned, rubbish was not emptied. The alarm bell was found on the floor or on the chair beside the bed when Mum could not gain access to it. Care needs not being carried out.

While I soon discovered that the staff were all efficient, kind and helpful, I found many puzzling deficiencies found only by chance that there are residents who are not deficient in mental attributes. Mixing with them would have made a very different experience. I would not choose to come again.
On the plus side: Afternoon entertainment, beautiful gardens, availability of drinks and snacks etc. (If I could find where they were). Availability of reading material, picture books.
On the downside:
1. Asked for a doctor when I developed a hacking cough. No medical found though I was told that one was 'coming' later, resorted to trickery to get a doctor.
2: Loss of clothing from the room, was told it had been sent to the laundry, never seen again.
3: Clean towel provided, disappeared unused ('gone to the laundry').
4: Toilet not flushing adequately.
5: Liquid soap of poor quality and hard to access.
6: Bed hard-edged and difficult to rise from.

7: Left for home still with a hacking cough.

The care home was under new management when Dad moved in seven months ago. I have to say that a majority of staff are all helpful, kind and considerate. Dad seems to have settled more now, and the activities and personal-centred approach from the activities coordinator couldn't be better. Management, admin and nurses, especially, are very approachable. I feel the cleaning could be improved, but apart from that, I am pleased with Dad's care at present.

In general, the home is good, in the past the standard fluctuated very much, it has much improved. There still is a lack of consistency in the level of care. But in general, the staff are kind and my mother is taken care of. I think more could be done for my relative but all things seem to take time. Most staff are good. I feel my mother is safe here. Telephoning is an issue and friends and family give up ringing at the time, not enough staff. There is a cheery atmosphere which is good.

Generally, staff go above and beyond to care for residents and make it feel like home. The activity coordinators are brilliant. Sometimes the care assistants lack attention to detail. My dad's new glasses were put in the wash by mistake and broke. Perhaps the pockets should be checked before removing them from the linen basket.

How the high reviews get through is a mystery! Have repeatedly pointed out cleanliness problems, bins not being emptied for over a week, bedrooms with food trod into carpets not being cleaned, and ants in bedrooms, which staff states happens on an annual basis. I witnessed my mother sitting in her own urine/faeces, not to have incontinence pads being changed, with faeces on bumper pads on the bed for weeks on end! I asked if my mother may have had a stroke, and the Dr was not called until over 24 hours later, who requested blood tests, but according to the home, these were never done. Since then I have not been allowed to visit or talk to my mother for the last 5 weeks and 5 days of her life! Inhumane on both my mother's and my part as we are very close. Most of the staff are lovely, but most are leaving, with only agency staff left, who do not have a clue who they are talking about! If this gets online it will be a miracle, don't put your relative here. My mother died 1/12/22, two hours after I was finally allowed to see her.

I visit this home regularly. The management team are always friendly. I visited on an afternoon when there was a singer there and the residents loved it. The manager came down and danced with some of them which was a lovely sight. The staff are always happy and interact with the residents. The home is clean and inviting. I would recommend Kingsland from my experience as a visitor.
