My mother moved into Home Close about 6 months ago after becoming bedridden. She initially gained some weight and began to participate in activities. She particularly enjoyed the memory game and also joined in for a couple of music events. The staff often encouraged her to get out of her room more but
her stamina was low, so she would often stay only for a short while. My mother adored avocados and I particularly appreciated that they ensured she got one on several occasions during her stay. The staff were all good and caring but there were some challenges with staffing levels and it felt like a long time to respond when the buzzer was pressed. Occasionally the buzzer didn't work and wasn't always sorted out the first time I asked. The room is warm and comfortable through winter but the chest of drawers should be replaced.

We had to find a care home asap and rang the home to arrange an appointment we were shown around by a member of staff and was very impressed by the friendliness of all staff and they was always ready to answer any questions. Our father seems to have settled and is enjoying the food and care given to
him by the staff. Every time I walk into the home everyone is polite and always asks if there are any problems as nothing is too much trouble for them. The home could do with some TLC but it is about the care the residents are receiving and that is what matters!

My nan has been a resident at Home Close for just over a year.
She struggled to settle in, at first. Not helped by the constant change of care staff.
Recently, however, things have improved greatly. She has regular staff, easily identified by pictures on her wall. The continuity of care is of a
good standard. One carer, in particular, goes above and beyond. Always making my nan smile.

We, as a family, are immensely pleased with the care my father receives. We were advised by the hospital in March that he probably only had a couple of months left to live, yet thankfully he is still here and although he has dementia he has improved dramatically. He has put on weight and is very happy.
I
do all his washing (not for any other reason other than the fact it is the last thing I can do for my father) but the carers regularly change his bed to save me doing it and he is always kept clean and presentable.
The other residents and the staff have become like extended family and if there is ever a problem we know that we can go to management and it is dealt with immediately. We are so glad that we held out for Home Close (the local authority tried to force us into the first place they recommended).

My wife has been at Home Close since January 2023. At all times she has been treated with care, dignity and kindness. The senior management and nursing staff inspire confidence.
The best summary of all that could be said is that I am very content with her comfort, care and safety.
It would be difficult
to ask for more.

I came in on Christmas Day expecting there to be skeleton staff, but not a bit of it! There seemed to be more staff than ever - all doing their best to ensure the residents were having a lovely day. Everyone was welcoming and cheerful. My brother visited a couple of days later ad it was the same. Whenever
I visit, staff talk to me about Mum - it's clear they know her well. The rooms always looks well cared for and smell fresh and clean.

Staff and management were caring, supportive and friendly. My father loved a bit of banter and appreciated the friendliness of all staff. Very caring at the end of life. My main comment is that the building is now looking very tired, it needs a lot of maintenance and decoration updates.

Having first seen the BUPA care home in Cottenham, my wife and I were initially a bit disappointed with this home care home in Fulbourn. Sort of 3 stars compared with 5 stars, but since my mother-in-law moved in, we have both been pleasantly surprised by the quality of care, which for us is most important.
All the staff we have seen or been involved with have been so genuinely caring, helpful, cheerful, and nice. Nothing seems to be too much trouble. Anything we ask for is done with good grace, and speedily. For example, we put a television in her room, but the cable I bought did not work properly. I asked the gentleman in the office if the maintenance man could help with this. He immediately contacted him while I was there, and it was fixed the same morning! We continue to be impressed with all aspects of the way the home is run. There is no bad odour smell, which you sometimes find, and it is always clean. We are really happy with this home and with the Council's choice.

My auntie was a resident at Home Close for four years. It was originally only for end-of-life care but she improved on arrival to the home and due to the excellent care and support provided. My auntie died four years later. During her entire stay, she was cared for by professionals who treated her with
dignity, respect, kindness and compassion. They always met her care needs even during the difficult time of restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic. A huge thank you to everyone.

Following two stays in the hospital during the summer, my mother was admitted into Home Close for palliative end-of-life care. She was 98 years old. From my very first meeting with the manager and her staff, I knew this was the right place for my mother's final days. The warmth they provided from the
very first to the last day almost seven weeks later, the excellence of the care from the carers, nurses, domestic staff, and the admin manager right up to the management was exemplary. Nothing was too much trouble. Everything they could do was done without fuss and with the utmost care and dedication. When my mother finally passed away, everyone was very loving and caring. It was as though they, too, had lost a family member. I expressed my thanks and gratitude to the manager for everything she and her team had done for my mum. I couldn't have wished for a better place for my mother to end her final days. They are an excellent team led by a wonderful manager. Thank you.

Having spent over two years extremely reluctant to return to yet another care home I was pleasantly surprised to find a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. It was the first place I did not feel suicidal. The credit was largely due to the manager, to whom I will always be grateful.

My father, who is in his 90s and has dementia, has just returned from a fortnight's respite care, his second respite at Home Close. We are very grateful for the excellent care and attention he received. The manager and all staff could not have been more friendly, kind or welcoming to him, and did all
they could to help him to settle in and to feel at home. The manager gave us time, listened carefully to my father's needs, and responded very helpfully to our small concerns about his eating and his mobility from his stay a few months previously. The facilities are pleasant, the dining room/meeting area is particularly cheerful and bright with fresh flowers on all the tables. There is a good programme of daily activities, which my father enjoyed. Our calls, to enquire how he was, were always welcomed and responded to immediately and helpfully. We feel lucky to have such a good care home near to where we live. Thank you.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.706)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.706) out of 10 for Home Close is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 43 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 43 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.706 for Home Close is calculated as follows: ( (377 Excellents x 5) + (118 Goods x 4) + (16 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 511 Ratings = 4.706
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Home Close is based on 43 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 72 registered maximum number of service users is 14.4, which has been reached with 43 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
