On first entering Goodwins Hall Care Home with my relative on her admission, I was struck by the friendliness, warmth and professionalism of the staff we met. Throughout my relative's stay, I often observed staff going over and above the call of duty and treating residents with kindness, respect and
sensitivity. I shall always be grateful for the care my cousin received.

I am very impressed by the caring attitude of all the staff at this care home. They have constantly gone over and above in all aspects, relating to both the care given to residents and also to our needs when visiting our relative, but especially when our relative died. They were all most sensitive to
our needs and feelings and their support helped us through this most difficult time.

This has been mum's home for five and half years, we lost her one month ago. It was her home and all the staff, her extended family who became our family too. The love, care, compassion and support they gave were above and beyond their duty. We are truly grateful Goodwins was the home we chose for our
mum. If she hadn't been there her last days would have been in hospital. Mum was comfortable, loved and cared for with me beside her which meant so much to us. We can't thank you enough.

The home has such a lovely atmosphere - as soon as you walk in you are greeted with a smile from the reception team and the home manager.
The home is always clean and has lots on offer to do.
I would move into this home in a heartbeat!

When I asked for help - I got it. Entertainment provided, very good. Food excellent, and alternatives provided if you do not like what is provided. Room very good, provided with a TV. Helped me when I had a cast on - no weight bearing. Helped me put the brace on when the cast was removed.

My first impression of Goodwins was the friendly atmosphere. I had come to visit a friend and was so impressed that I put my mum's name down straight away, and within a month, my mum was shown around the home, assessed and now resides here. The staff are very friendly, and nothing is too much for them.
I wanted for my mum to be happy in her final years, and she loves it here.

Thoroughly recommend Goodwins Hall. My mum was looked after there between Oct 2021 and April 2022 after falling over at home and breaking her leg. They really couldn't have treated her better. Having Alzheimer's, Mum didn't like change, but she settled in very well. All the nurses and carers were amazing
and nothing was too much trouble.

My family member stayed in May, we were shocked by the overall lack of care and dignity shown to her, my mother left a comprehensive list of needs with the home all of which were ignored. She wasn't showered, wasn't taken to the toilet and was left sat in her bed all day, her food wasn't cut and there
was little interaction with other residents. Our family member is a very social, friendly lady and would never dream of complaining, but she told me how uncomfortable she was with not being taken to the toilet and not having her leg (which has a pressure sore) raised. I complained to the manager and was assured that her needs would be met, they weren't. The room she was staying in was scruffy and in my opinion not worth the money paid. Would not recommend this home!

I was so disappointed in my beloved friend's stay here. When first viewing this home, I was so impressed with my initial impression of a lovely bright entrance, with a small cafe area, a dining room, library, large television room and bedroom downstairs. I was told there would be lots of activities
and that it would be a complete home from home should I let her stay. Twice I completed forms stating her needs, her general day to day living arrangements and health care etc. This could not have been further from what she received. Had it not have been for our friends and my family visiting, she wouldn't have had any interaction with anyone apart from carers, stuck in a scruffy upstairs room. She wasn't taken to the toilet. She didn't get a shower, only bed baths and although she had a pressure sore, her feet were not raised although I had taken all her chair pads, etc with me. They overcharged twice before they got the bill right. I would not recommend this home to anyone for respite.

My dad was well cared for, rooms were clean and comfortable. On the downside, he struggled to find someone to converse with as the other guests were not able to communicate very well and he had very disturbed nights due to noise and 'wet bed' checks - which he does not need. Activities were hit and
miss, with no real structure or encouragement to be active or take part. Overall, we are satisfied with the service provided and Dad was happy as well.

We did a family birthday party for my grandad. The staff were friendly and went above and beyond anything we would have expected and made the afternoon something to cherish. Nothing was too much trouble.

Sam Burton has been a dedicated member of the Goodwins Hall family since January 2001—the very year the home officially opened. She began her journey as a night carer, where her compassion and commitment quickly made a lasting impact. Over the years, Sam progressed to Team Leader and, in 2019, expanded her role by joining the housekeeping team. Her attention to detail and leadership led to her promotion as Head of Housekeeping in 2021.


With 24 years of service, Sam is one of the longest-standing team members at Goodwins Hall. She is known for her reliability, warmth, and deep care for both residents and colleagues.


Sam shares, “Goodwins is like a family to me. I’ve spent 24 years here, and it truly feels like home.”


Outside of work, Sam enjoys spending time with her partner and two boys. A devoted animal lover, she also cares for her 3 cats, who are very much part of the family.

Thomas

Thomas Turnbull

Job Title: Head of Maintenance

Joined: 2011

Thomas Turnbull, fondly known as Tom, began his journey at Goodwins Hall in July 2011 as a gardener. With a natural talent for nurturing outdoor spaces and a strong work ethic, Tom quickly became a valued member of the team. His dedication and versatility saw him take on increasing responsibilities, eventually stepping into the role of Head of Maintenance.


Tom is known for his calm, can-do attitude and his commitment to keeping Goodwins Hall running smoothly. Whether he’s solving a maintenance issue or lending a hand to a colleague, Tom’s reliability and positive spirit make him an essential part of the Goodwins Hall family.


Outside of work, Tom enjoys a fulfilling life with his wife Michelle and their two sons, Jack and Oliver. A passionate gardener at heart, he also tends to his own allotment, where he grows a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. In addition to gardening, Tom has a love for foraging wild plants, often exploring nature to discover edible treasures and deepen his connection with the outdoors.


Tom’s loyalty, warmth, and dedication have left a lasting mark on Goodwins Hall. We’re proud to have him as part of our team and grateful for the many years of service he’s given to our community.

Christine

Christine Haughey

Job Title: Head Chef

Joined: 2024

Christine Haughey joined Goodwins Hall as Head Chef in July 2024, bringing with her an impressive 24 years of experience in the culinary world. Her journey through the hospitality industry has been as diverse as it is inspiring.


Christine has successfully owned and operated a variety of establishments, including traditional pubs, restaurants, and even a vibrant rock and roll diner. Her passion for food and adventure also led her to Spain, where she spent six years running her own tapas bar, immersing herself in Mediterranean flavours and culture.


With this wealth of experience, Christine has elevated the dining experience at Goodwins Hall, crafting menus that are both comforting and creative, tailored to delight the residents. Her dedication to quality and her love for cooking shine through.


Outside the kitchen, Christine enjoys watching Formula 1 and unwinding with a good book. She describes working at Goodwins Hall as a joy, saying, “I love working here for the lovely residents – it’s such a cheerful and friendly place to be.”

Katie McCowen

Katie McCowen began her journey at Goodwins Hall in September 2021, stepping into the world of care as a carer. With a strong desire to make a difference and gain hands-on experience, Goodwins Hall became her first role in the care sector. At the time, she was also working towards her NVQ Level 3 in Social Care, demonstrating her commitment to both learning and delivering high-quality care.


Through dedication, compassion, and a natural ability to lead, Katie progressed to become a Unit Manager within one of our communities. She is passionate about her role and finds working at Goodwins Hall both rewarding and purposeful. Binla Baby

Job Title: Unit Manager

Binla Baby joined Goodwins Hall in December 2023, shortly after earning her UK nursing pin. Originally arriving in the UK in 2022, she quickly established herself as a dedicated and compassionate nurse. Her clinical skills, calm presence, and genuine care for residents made her a valued member of the team from the start.


Through her hard work and passion for delivering excellent care, Binla progressed to the role of Unit Manager within the nursing community. Binla thrives in the supportive and collaborative environment at Goodwins Hall, where she continues to grow both personally and professionally.
