After having a hip replacement I was discharged home then unfortunately had a fall, after leaving A & E I was very fortunate to be transferred to Goodwins Hall Care Home for rehab. The home made me most welcome and I was impressed with the quality of care that I received. All the staff, from all departments
were kind, understanding and always willing to help no matter how small my needs were. The building itself was bright and clean (like a 5-star hotel) I consider myself very fortunate to have been a guest.

Wow is all I can say about the experience Mum had at Goodwins Hall Care Home. The staff, the care, the physio and the food were all exceptional. My next of kin was at Goodwins for just under 18 years. During this time she was well cared for and loved by the staff and she embraced being there by partaking in all the activities they offered. Excellent choice of activities. It is a testament that she was there for 18 years considering her disabilities
and health issues. At times there were staff shortages, but when pointed out these were addressed.

My aunt aged 99 could no longer manage on her own. She went into Goodwins for a trial period of 2 weeks and decided she would live there. Management were outstanding in accommodating her.
Although missing her home, she has settled well and is enjoying being cared for.
Meals are good and she thinks
the carers are amazing. All in all, it has been a very successful move!

I was treated well during my stay, both medically and caring. The staff at all grades were all kind, considerate helpful and encouraging. The physio team certainly helped me immensely with exercises to get me walking, and activating my body generally so as to come home, for which I am very grateful.
The staff were friendly, offering facilities for patients to enjoy but also respectful of your privacy as well. Sometimes meals were ok and if ask was given something more. My summing up for a relatively short stay was very helpful in all respects. Thank you all so much.

Mum became a resident at Goodwins Hall last Easter, after a period of respite first. It wasn't a move she ever expected to make but she gradually settled with the support of the staff there. With the use of her wheelchair I have on occasions taken Mum downstairs to the main reception area where you
can sit and enjoy a cuppa together or have a wander around the lovely and well-kept gardens. There are often activities going on and also special celebrations to which residents and relatives are invited. I have always found the staff to be friendly and supportive to Mum and myself. There is a hair salon downstairs so a pamper can be enjoyed and nails painted. Goodwins Hall always appears clean and tidy and staff are always professional and courteous. Yes it can be busy but if staff can't deal with something immediately, they will get back to you. Thank you all.

My mother has been a resident for four years now, as she moved in just before lockdown. Unfortunately we couldn’t see her for the first five months due to COVID restrictions, but the staff were fantastic throughout that very difficult period. She is well looked after, and despite the staff always being
exceptionally busy, they seem patient and caring. The facilities they have make the care she receives much better than when she was being cared for at home. She also gets to interact with many more people, both staff and residents, which is again better for her than when she was at home.

The care my mother gets from the staff is exemplary. I know that she can be cantankerous at times but this is always dealt with with a smile and joke. Incidents are always reported to either my brother or myself.

Awful experience. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Very expensive for private users. Recently informed by social services that my dear nan has been overpaying for her care. Care home was told this by social services and now my nan has been kicked out. This last year has been horribly stressful
due to the way the care home has treated such a wonderful woman.

Overall, I am very happy with the standard of care my mum receives at Goodwins Hall. They aim to provide a 'home from home' and I think they do this well as the atmosphere is relaxed, friendly and warm. The staff are always very obliging, nothing is too much trouble and I have been impressed by their
sensitivity to dignity and respect for all residents.
At times it is clear that there is a shortage of staff on shift but those on duty are working their socks off to maintain the high standards and level of care.

We used the respite facility - staying for two weeks. The care was excellent, the facility is well-staffed. Any instructions were carried out as requested. I thoroughly enjoyed my break, safe in the knowledge that he was well cared for and in very safe hands. It says he didn't particularly enjoy the
food but I suspect he is very spoiled at home!

Sam Burton has been a dedicated member of the Goodwins Hall family since January 2001—the very year the home officially opened. She began her journey as a night carer, where her compassion and commitment quickly made a lasting impact. Over the years, Sam progressed to Team Leader and, in 2019, expanded her role by joining the housekeeping team. Her attention to detail and leadership led to her promotion as Head of Housekeeping in 2021.


With 24 years of service, Sam is one of the longest-standing team members at Goodwins Hall. She is known for her reliability, warmth, and deep care for both residents and colleagues.


Sam shares, “Goodwins is like a family to me. I’ve spent 24 years here, and it truly feels like home.”


Outside of work, Sam enjoys spending time with her partner and two boys. A devoted animal lover, she also cares for her 3 cats, who are very much part of the family.

Thomas Turnbull

Thomas Turnbull, fondly known as Tom, began his journey at Goodwins Hall in July 2011 as a gardener. Tom is known for his calm, can-do attitude and his commitment to keeping Goodwins Hall running smoothly. Whether he’s solving a maintenance issue or lending a hand to a colleague, Tom’s reliability and positive spirit make him an essential part of the Goodwins Hall family.


Outside of work, Tom enjoys a fulfilling life with his wife Michelle and their two sons, Jack and Oliver. A passionate gardener at heart, he also tends to his own allotment, where he grows a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. In addition to gardening, Tom has a love for foraging wild plants, often exploring nature to discover edible treasures and deepen his connection with the outdoors.


Tom’s loyalty, warmth, and dedication have left a lasting mark on Goodwins Hall. We’re proud to have him as part of our team and grateful for the many years of service he’s given to our community.

Christine

Christine Haughey

Job Title: Head Chef

Joined: 2024

Christine Haughey joined Goodwins Hall as Head Chef in July 2024, bringing with her an impressive 24 years of experience in the culinary world. Her journey through the hospitality industry has been as diverse as it is inspiring.


Christine has successfully owned and operated a variety of establishments, including traditional pubs, restaurants, and even a vibrant rock and roll diner. Her passion for food and adventure also led her to Spain, where she spent six years running her own tapas bar, immersing herself in Mediterranean flavours and culture.


With this wealth of experience, Christine has elevated the dining experience at Goodwins Hall, crafting menus that are both comforting and creative, tailored to delight the residents. Her dedication to quality and her love for cooking shine through.


Outside the kitchen, Christine enjoys watching Formula 1 and unwinding with a good book. She describes working at Goodwins Hall as a joy, saying, “I love working here for the lovely residents – it’s such a cheerful and friendly place to be.”

Katie

Katie McCowen

Job Title: Unit Manager

Joined: 2021

Katie McCowen began her journey at Goodwins Hall in September 2021, stepping into the world of care as a carer. With a strong desire to make a difference and gain hands-on experience, Goodwins Hall became her first role in the care sector. At the time, she was also working towards her NVQ Level 3 in Social Care, demonstrating her commitment to both learning and delivering high-quality care.


Through dedication, compassion, and a natural ability to lead, Katie progressed to become a Unit Manager within one of our communities. She is passionate about her role and finds working at Goodwins Hall both rewarding and purposeful. Katie is especially inspired by the opportunity to motivate and support her team, creating a positive and nurturing environment for both staff and residents.


Looking ahead, Katie aspires to continue growing in her career, with hopes of one day becoming a care home manager. Her journey is a testament to what can be achieved with heart, hard work, and a clear vision.


Outside of work, Katie enjoys spending quality time with her daughter and two beloved dogs. She also values maintaining a healthy social life, which helps her stay balanced and energised.

Caroline

Caroline Uycoco

Job Title: Unit Manager

Caroline Uycoco began her career at Goodwins Hall in 2008 as a Senior Care Assistant, bringing with her a strong passion for delivering high-quality care. Her dedication and compassion quickly made her a valued member of the team.


In 2019, Caroline took on a leadership role as Residential Care Manager at our sister home, Amberley Hall. She later gained further experience in the wider healthcare sector, continuing to grow her skills and knowledge.


In 2024, we were delighted to welcome Caroline back to Goodwins Hall as a Unit Manager. She now leads one of our communities with warmth, professionalism, and a deep commitment to both residents and staff. Caroline is known for her hardworking nature and is truly loved by many.


Caroline has always loved Goodwins Hall, describing it as a great place to work where she feels supported and inspired every day.

Binla

Binla Baby

Job Title: Unit Manager

Joined: 2023

Binla Baby joined Goodwins Hall in December 2023, shortly after earning her UK nursing pin. Originally arriving in the UK in 2022, she quickly established herself as a dedicated and compassionate nurse. Her clinical skills, calm presence, and genuine care for residents made her a valued member of the team from the start.


Through her hard work and passion for delivering excellent care, Binla progressed to the role of Unit Manager within the nursing community. Binla thrives in the supportive and collaborative environment at Goodwins Hall, where she continues to grow both personally and professionally.
