Review from Brenda W (Wife of Resident) published on 25 April 2022 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

From the first day I visited my husband, each member of staff called me by my Christian name. The care and attention given to the residents are excellent. The rooms are very pleasant, the garden is wonderful and the reception area is warm and friendly. Cleanliness is first class. The caution taken to keep Covid at a manageable level is excellent. Also, most of the carers go above and beyond their duties, this is much appreciated. Thank you.

My opinion of Goodwins Hall Residential Care Home is overall very good. My elderly godmother could no longer live alone and needed hands-on care, which has all been provided for her at a very professional rate at this home. My only concern is that with more staff and equipment e.g. hoists, the care would be even greater.

This is the second time my mum has been to Goodwins Hall for respite. The first time she was in was okay but much harder for us to do as it was so emotional leaving her there. This time has been totally different and I can't praise the team leader enough for the superb care and kindness she ensures my mum gets. Even ringing me with updates as I can't visit due to having Covid this week. This is so reassuring as Mum and I are very close. Mum's making friends, had her hair and nails done and joins in with activities. Can't fault her stay this time, excellent.

My wife came into Goodwins in September due to a loss of care package, and she was stressed and upset because of it.
It was a difficult couple of months while she adapted to her new surroundings, routine and the staff.

The home was clean, light and airy, with friendly, smiling reception staff. Her carers couldn’t do enough for her, and even when she was stressed, upset and tearful managed to be professional and calm. The room was clean, airy and with a little view of the garden. The food was excellent and plentiful, and she was allowed her favourite, orange juice, instead of squash, which she appreciated. The manager and nurses were available if there was an issue, and were more than happy to help sort out the few issues we had.

My father was moved to Goodwins Hall following a stay in the hospital, initially for a two-week respite stay. After the two weeks, he decided to remain there and has now settled in, made some friends. With the continuous support from the staff, his somewhat lovely existence has now given him a far better quality of life.

My father entered Goodwins Hall in September 2021, following a stay in the hospital, and transitioned onto a permanent contract in late November 2021.
I conducted some research into local care provision and was impressed by the CQC ratings and recommendations for Goodwins Hall, and it was an easy decision to place my father there knowing that he would receive the best possible care.
Since then, my initial impressions have been met. The quality of staff is very high. Attentive, professional and always willing to offer a personal touch to the care given. My father suffered a fall in his room and the whole process from response to attending hospital for a precautionary x-ray was handled professionally and gave me real confidence in the care given.
It has been very easy to access the general home and care team management to resolve any issues and they are always willing to listen and open to suggestions.

My father is happy there and that gives us the best possible feeling.

Review from Geoffrey S (Brother of Resident) published on 2 September 2021 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My brother has been a resident for many years. I am a Canadian citizen and have visited on about three occasions. I am truly amazed at the high degree of comfort, care and attention my brother receives. I know that he has never been happier knowing that he has the comfort of unbelievably caring staff. I speak to him on Zoom at least twice a week and regularly his delightful nurse whose name (unfortunately I am not allowed to give) wheels him into the room and sets it up for him. I know the nursing home is privately owned, so that makes the care even that more impressive knowing that the residents care comes first and takes precedence over shareholder profit which is so often the case. Thank you so very much.

I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone at Goodwins Hall. After my uncle, who lived on his own had a heart attack, then spending 4 weeks in hospital, and after 2 weeks respite at another home, we as a family were rather concerned for his health and wellbeing. He then came to Goodwins Hall in mid-June, naturally, it took a bit of time to settle to his new surroundings, but we have to say with the excellent care and kindness of all staff at Goodwins he has settled very well, and possibly is better now than prior to his heart attack. The care and kindness he receives along with the company and companionship from others around him as well as the regular events and activities at Goodwins is we believe the best medicine for him. Thanks again Goodwins, carry on the good work.

Absolutely excellent! I could not fault the care my father received here as a Parkinson's respite patient. The staff are highly professional, genuinely caring, friendly and very knowledgable which was so reassuring. Every need my dad had was catered for, people who had time for him. The food is top class, surroundings are lovely, like a hotel. Hairdressers, coffee lounge, multiple activities. This is a well managed, highly trained, impressive care home. We felt like part of the family here. A really lovely place.

My wife was a resident at Goodwins Hall for 5 months until, sadly, she died. From the start the staff (at all levels) were very friendly and attentive, treating her with dignity and kindness and never too busy to have a chat with me. Even when her condition worsened and she became unable to respond they continued to care for her with kindness. At that stage, there was never any suggestion that, as a self payer, we would have to pay more, in spite of the extra work involved. Her family is grateful that she was able to remain at Goodwins Hall until the end came, rather than be moved to a hospital.

I have found the staff and management professional, yet relaxed. A lovely cheery atmosphere within the home. I visited with a group of family and friends and they all agreed it seems more like a hotel than a residential home. In my previous review I didn't rate the room as excellent. I feel I should clarify this. It was simply because ideally I would have liked the room to be a bit bigger. However, it is warm, nicely decorated and with a nice view of the garden. Today my mum said she feels settled and happy which is all anyone can ask.
