My husband has been in Goodwins Hall for three weeks now, and settled in really well; better than I expected. The staff are really lovely, couldn't ask for better.

My wife was a resident at Goodwins Hall for 5 months until, sadly, she died. From the start the staff (at all levels) were very friendly and attentive, treating her with dignity and kindness and never too busy to have a chat with me. Even when her condition worsened and she became unable to respond
they continued to care for her with kindness. At that stage, there was never any suggestion that, as a self payer, we would have to pay more, in spite of the extra work involved. Her family is grateful that she was able to remain at Goodwins Hall until the end came, rather than be moved to a hospital.

My father stayed here for two weeks, so my mum could have a rest. The staff have been so helpful and very friendly. My father has felt so at ease and comfortable and said it has been like "home from home". Lovely food.

I have found the staff and management professional, yet relaxed. A lovely cheery atmosphere within the home. I visited with a group of family and friends and they all agreed it seems more like a hotel than a residential home. In my previous review I didn't rate the room as excellent. I feel I should
clarify this. It was simply because ideally I would have liked the room to be a bit bigger. However, it is warm, nicely decorated and with a nice view of the garden. Today my mum said she feels settled and happy which is all anyone can ask.

This is an excellent home for anyone to stay I would recommend to anyone.
The staff are wonderful, so kind and caring, there's no better place to be. If I would have to give up my home there's no place I would rather. The staff are wonderful.

The home is welcoming, relaxed and more like a hotel than residential care. My dad was happy here. Staff were friendly and engaging, food was very good as were activities arranged for residents. The ability to make tea and coffee when they wanted is also very important for residents.

I come to Goodwins to rest after coming out of hospital. I really enjoyed myself. Staff got me back on my feet again. I made some lovely friends and the staff were amazing, would come back anytime. The deputy manager came to see me in hospital and greeted me when I arrived.
It made a difference seeing
a familiar face, smiling and happy to see me.

My husband was a resident at Goodwins Hall for from February 2016 until his death on 28th September. In that time, he was treated with great respect, received loving care and at the end of his life was constantly monitored to ensure what time he had left was as comfortable as possible. The staff did
their best to keep him clean and happy and always tried to encourage him to take an interest in their activities.
He enjoyed the well-kept gardens and the Sunday church service every month.

When I visit my mother, I find her very happy, clean and in good spirits. She enjoys staying at the home and is happy with the care she receives.
I find the home light, clean with no unpleasant smells. The staff are always friendly and willing to help if I have a problem.

It is now almost two years since Dad was discharged from hospital with a very poor prognosis for any improvement in mobility or cognition, he needed 24-hour care.


We had been told by hospital staff that he would make no further progress so was not able to benefit from rehab. The very professional

care he received at Goodwin's proved them wrong.


Yesterday, when I arrived to visit, Dad had just had a walk in the sunshine around the beautiful garden, with a walking aid but independently!


As a family, we know that the dedication, friendly and totally professional care he has received at Goodwin's has given us so much precious extra time with Dad.


Dad has retained much of his lost independence in a homely setting but with the backup of 24-hour care. I can honestly say that the staff members, without exception, display genuine care and empathy with the residents and extend that to us as family.

Such caring staff, lots of activities available, lovely food, good atmosphere, bright and very clean, lovely gardens. I felt comfortable visiting my husband, reception and managers are very welcoming. It made a sad time much less stressful and I will always be grateful to you all.

Thomas Turnbull

Thomas Turnbull, fondly known as Tom, began his journey at Goodwins Hall in July 2011 as a gardener. With a natural talent for nurturing outdoor spaces and a strong work ethic, Tom quickly became a valued member of the team. His dedication and versatility saw him take on increasing responsibilities, eventually stepping into the role of Head of Maintenance.


Tom is known for his calm, can-do attitude and his commitment to keeping Goodwins Hall running smoothly. Whether he’s solving a maintenance issue or lending a hand to a colleague, Tom’s reliability and positive spirit make him an essential part of the Goodwins Hall family.


Outside of work, Tom enjoys a fulfilling life with his wife Michelle and their two sons, Jack and Oliver. A passionate gardener at heart, he also tends to his own allotment, where he grows a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. In addition to gardening, Tom has a love for foraging wild plants, often exploring nature to discover edible treasures and deepen his connection with the outdoors.

Christine Haughey

Job Title: Head Chef Joined: 2024

Christine Haughey joined Goodwins Hall as Head Chef in July 2024, bringing with her an impressive 24 years of experience in the culinary world. Her journey through the hospitality industry has been as diverse as it is inspiring.


Christine has successfully owned and operated a variety of establishments, including traditional pubs, restaurants, and even a vibrant rock and roll diner. Her passion for food and adventure also led her to Spain, where she spent six years running her own tapas bar, immersing herself in Mediterranean flavours and culture.


With this wealth of experience, Christine has elevated the dining experience at Goodwins Hall, crafting menus that are both comforting and creative, tailored to delight the residents. Her dedication to quality and her love for cooking shine through.


Outside the kitchen, Christine enjoys watching Formula 1 and unwinding with a good book. She describes working at Goodwins Hall as a joy, saying, “I love working here for the lovely residents – it’s such a cheerful and friendly place to be.”

Katie McCowen

Katie McCowen began her journey at Goodwins Hall in September 2021, stepping into the world of care as a carer. She is passionate about her role and finds working at Goodwins Hall both rewarding and purposeful. Binla Baby joined Goodwins Hall in December 2023, shortly after earning her UK nursing pin. Originally arriving in the UK in 2022, she quickly established herself as a dedicated and compassionate nurse. Her clinical skills, calm presence, and genuine care for residents made her a valued member of the team from the start.


Through her hard work and passion for delivering excellent care, Binla progressed to the role of Unit Manager within the nursing community. Binla thrives in the supportive and collaborative environment at Goodwins Hall, where she continues to grow both personally and professionally.

Outside of work, Binla enjoys dancing, which brings her joy and balance. Her vibrant energy and positive spirit shine through in everything she does, both on and off the floor.
