I am very impressed by the caring attitude of all the staff at this care home. They have constantly gone over and above in all aspects, relating to both the care given to residents and also to our needs when visiting our relative, but especially when our relative died. They were all most sensitive to our needs and feelings and their support helped us through this most difficult time.

This has been mum's home for five and half years, we lost her one month ago. It was her home and all the staff, her extended family who became our family too. The love, care, compassion and support they gave were above and beyond their duty. We are truly grateful Goodwins was the home we chose for our mum. If she hadn't been there her last days would have been in hospital. Mum was comfortable, loved and cared for with me beside her which meant so much to us. We can't thank you enough.

Our mother was always treated with dignity and respect at Goodwins Hall. The staff have always kept me up to date with how she is and did all they could to enable visits during the lockdown. Overall, a highly recommended care home. Thank you for looking after Mum so well.

When I asked for help - I got it. Entertainment provided, very good. Food excellent, and alternatives provided if you do not like what is provided. Room very good, provided with a TV. Helped me when I had a cast on - no weight bearing. Helped me put the brace on when the cast was removed.

My first impression of Goodwins was the friendly atmosphere. I had come to visit a friend and was so impressed that I put my mum's name down straight away, and within a month, my mum was shown around the home, assessed and now resides here. The staff are very friendly, and nothing is too much for them. I wanted for my mum to be happy in her final years, and she loves it here.

Thoroughly recommend Goodwins Hall. My mum was looked after there between Oct 2021 and April 2022 after falling over at home and breaking her leg. They really couldn't have treated her better. Having Alzheimer's, Mum didn't like change, but she settled in very well. All the nurses and carers were amazing and nothing was too much trouble.

My family member stayed in May, we were shocked by the overall lack of care and dignity shown to her, my mother left a comprehensive list of needs with the home all of which were ignored. She wasn't showered, wasn't taken to the toilet and was left sat in her bed all day, her food wasn't cut and there was little interaction with other residents. Our family member is a very social, friendly lady and would never dream of complaining, but she told me how uncomfortable she was with not being taken to the toilet and not having her leg (which has a pressure sore) raised. I complained to the manager and was assured that her needs would be met, they weren't. The room she was staying in was scruffy and in my opinion not worth the money paid. Would not recommend this home!

Overall Experience

I was so disappointed in my beloved friend's stay here. When first viewing this home, I was so impressed with my initial impression of a lovely bright entrance, with a small cafe area, a dining room, library, large television room and bedroom downstairs. I was told there would be lots of activities and that it would be a complete home from home should I let her stay. Twice I completed forms stating her needs, her general day to day living arrangements and health care etc. This could not have been further from what she received. Had it not have been for our friends and my family visiting, she wouldn't have had any interaction with anyone apart from carers, stuck in a scruffy upstairs room. She wasn't taken to the toilet. She didn't get a shower, only bed baths and although she had a pressure sore, her feet were not raised although I had taken all her chair pads, etc with me. They overcharged twice before they got the bill right. I would not recommend this home to anyone for respite.

My dad was well cared for, rooms were clean and comfortable. On the downside, he struggled to find someone to converse with as the other guests were not able to communicate very well and he had very disturbed nights due to noise and 'wet bed' checks - which he does not need. Activities were hit and miss, with no real structure or encouragement to be active or take part. Overall, we are satisfied with the service provided and Dad was happy as well.
