I would like to write to thank you for the kindness and support the residents receive at Thorpe House from Activities. Our dad joined Thorp House approximately 5 weeks ago and the care he receives is second to none. The daily/weekly activities arranged are so well thought out and managed and Dad really enjoys taking part and from what we have witnessed, so does everyone else, including the staff. Visiting relatives are also made very welcome to join in and we love seeing him laugh and smile. These activities bring all the residents together and we feel this is so important for their mental and physical well-being and is a big part of why and how they recover and thrive so well at Thorp House. We especially love the tortoise racing! Your hard work and commitment to everyone are very much appreciated. Kind regards.

I was very unwell when I first came to Thorp House in January 2022. They have helped me in my journey. I am about to go home. I will miss everyone, each member of staff has treated me with kindness, dignity and shared laughter.

I will especially miss all the activities which have been extremely well run and always fun and informative. The only minus is the lukewarm food.

I cannot stress how well my husband has been looked after in the 8 months he was in the care home. The staff treated him and the whole of his family with the utmost dignity and respect until his end.

I visited Thorpe House yesterday for my mother in laws 100th birthday. I found the staff to be very friendly and caring towards all the residents. They were very understanding towards the needs and requirements of the individual residents, and tried to accommodate all their requests. The rooms were very clean and tidy and I was very impressed with the general cleanliness of all the rooms. I would recommend this care home to anyone wishing to make sure their loved ones will be well cared for.

I am delighted with the care my mother is receiving at Thorp House. On arrival, she was in very poor health after several lengthy stays in hospital and the wonderful team caring for her have made a huge improvement. The manager and staff are consistently friendly, caring and attentive to her multiple health needs. I am kept well informed of her health and promptly contacted if any issues arise. Thorp House have been very accommodating to the fact that I live overseas, communicating by email, arranging transport for hospital visits and enabling me to participate. Friends and relatives can visit (with appropriate Covid precautions) where they can meet my mother in the comfort of the sun lounge and are made very welcome. The home is spotlessly clean and my mother is able to participate in the activities arranged for residents. Now summer is on the way she will be able to enjoy the large central garden. It is a huge relief to know that she is in such safe hands.

Since dad has been here, he has been looked after very well. I feel the staff do their best to get to know the residents and make them feel cared for, when their relatives cannot come.

After caring for my father for many years, I was very worried when he was taken into care, whether I could let go and how he would be looked after. But after the first meeting, any concerns were alleviated. On each visit, I saw the level of care was outstanding, with every request I made being met. Concern over my father's welfare was exemplary and when the end came, the nurse and staff who attended him were wonderful and gave him the best care and the utmost respect.

From our first visit, everything at Thorp House has been caring and professional. My husband was offered a bungalow room - a mini-suite with an ensuite wetroom and lovely sitting-room opening onto the beautiful garden with two resident peacocks for company. His sitting-room was newly furnished with an armchair, TV and small dining table and chairs, where visitors could share a delicious meal. It was evident that every member of staff loved their work and their involvement with their residents. On visits, we saw many residents enjoy the variety of daily activities. It was a comfort to my husband that his dog was welcome to visit too. He has been cared for with patience, understanding, dignity and love and we, his family, have also felt cared for and receive regular communications.

The staff are lovely but there are never enough of them. They are run off their feet. Alas, the building is very tired and the rooms are small and not fit for purpose.

Arrived here in March 2021. A huge amount of care needed and given, with patience and kindness. Constant panic attacks and assurance given that it was not because of my heart or lung cancer. Management go to great lengths to let me have items from home, i.e recliner chair, CD's, CD shelving unit and mattress. Breathing difficult, hence floor-standing large fan put in my room, which helps. Semi skimmed milk ordered because of my diverticulitis problem. Small fridge supplied. Medicines given on time and magazines delivered. Fun days when nurses dress up. Nurses will always find time when I need to talk. Privacy and dignity always considered. Very happy here.

I arrived at Thorp House on a Monday afternoon, this was the first time here and I didn't know anybody. My wife came and looked around before my stay. Tuesday morning, neither staff nor myself knew each other but we sat and chatted and things really worked well. The staff kept to the regime that I had at home, which was brilliant. Getting up at the same time, medicine on time and resting on the bed. We did have one safety issue which was sorted in 5-10 minutes and never happened again. Thank you for having me and we said we would see each other again when I needed to give my wife a rest, as she has to do everything for me.

My experiences of visiting the care home and the kindness of all the staff towards my cousin has been nothing but excellent. There are no words to describe their caring and the undivided attention they have given her, so much so after a recent short stay in hospital she was keen to get back “home”. To me that said it all, having lived in her last house for 35 years + to call Thorp house her home after only three months, means she is happy and comfortable there, you couldn’t want for more.

Thorp House has been looking after my brother for 18-months now, and I have been very impressed with the care and attention my brother has received in dealing with his complex needs. The staff are friendly and welcoming, consulting with me at all times as and when my brother's needs change. The home has put the safety of residents and staff first during the pandemic, with garden visits (when allowed), which is much appreciated.

My mum was diagnosed with vascular dementia early last year and has been a resident at Thorpe House since mid-summer. Unfortunately, visiting has been suspended since Christmas, and contact has been limited to telephone conversations and video calls. Before visiting was suspended, I saw my mum three times a week, she always seemed happy and content with her new life at Thorpe House. She enjoys the food that is served, and she always looks clean and presentable. All of the staff are extremely friendly and hardworking, and nothing seems to be too much trouble. Most importantly, my mum is always treated with the respect and dignity that is both deserved and expected.

Visiting restrictions are to be reviewed next month, so once again, it will be a pleasure to visit my mum at Thorpe House.

My father was transferred to Thorp House where he stayed for a few weeks until he passed away.
During that time, my father received a high level of individualised care and compassion which extended to us, his family. I’m sure this is due to good leadership.
Also, I’m sure the high level of care was due to the appropriate skill mix of their staff, with many having recent acute care experience.
We always found it easy to get through to staff on the telephone, which we hadn’t at his previous home. The staff were polite, professional and really made an attempt to get to know our father and his likes/dislikes.
They even managed to get him into a downstairs room with a window facing some trees, so he could watch the birds, which he loved.
They went out of their way to offer small meals and to provide alternatives if he didn’t fancy what was on the menu.

Towards the end of his life, they allowed me to visit him, which meant he wasn’t alone when he died.

My mum moved into Thorp House in May 2019 and was full of praise for her treatment. The carers were marvellous - supportive, friendly, chatty and couldn't do enough to make her stay welcoming and reassuring. I also found, when visiting my mum, that they were always available to listen and help with any concerns (very few!) I may have had or were just good to talk to. Her physical needs were met with cheerful commitment and concern.

Mum, unfortunately, is no longer with us and the staff at her home offered their support with the very difficult time we had to face. I miss my visits, obviously to my mum, but also to the very kind people with whom she was fortunate enough to share the final months of her life. Thank you is never enough, but I hope this review goes some way to reassure others who may be considering placing their relative in your care, that their welfare will be paramount, as it was for my mum.

Claire BrooksJob Title:Home Manager

I qualified as a nurse 30 years ago. During the last 30 years, I have worked in many different areas of healthcare but have spent the last 10 years working in a care home. I am passionate about making a difference in people's lives - residents, relatives and the team here at Thorp. I joined the team here at Thorp in February 2024, The home has a fantastic family feel, which I hear every day walking around the home with laughter and fun at the heart of the home. I am looking forward to moving the home from good to outstanding. At home, I love literature and classical music to create a relaxing environment.

However, my great passion is cooking and love to learn to create new dishes for my family and friends to enjoy.

Alexia Deakin Job Title:Deputy Manager

My Career in Healthcare began in 2014 as a newly qualified staff nurse in a specialist Cardio/Thoracic Hospital. I progressed to become a specialist Cardio/Thoracic nurse where I was in charge of a Surgical Ward and High Dependency Unit. In January 2018 I joined Kingsley Healthcare as a staff nurse at Thorp House Nursing Home. This position was very different from my previous job but was very fulfilling as I had the time to deliver person-centered care to the residents who have become like a second family to me. I became the Deputy Manager at Thorp House in August 2019 where I support the home manager in the daily running of the home making sure that the team is delivering high-quality care with compassion and empathy.

My passion for hospitality started while I was studying in Paris, around 25 years ago, I started to work at the legendary Michelin star-graded restaurant named "Au Pied de Cochon". The atmosphere, the teamwork, and the attention to detail designated the path of my life and I continued working in high-level hotels and restaurants. At Thorp House, my key focus is managing the food service operations, working closely with the chef around menu planning and preparation to deliver quality meals to our residents. I absolutely love working at Thorp. Every day is different and brings some new challenges. To see the devotion of the team in bringing the best care to the residents in their day-to-day lives in our nursing home is heart-warming.

In my spare time, I enjoy doing crocheting and puzzle-solving.

Whether that be in person or on the phone. I have over 8 years of experience having worked in insurance previously. I enjoy working at Thorp as it holds family values and is always a warm and welcoming environment.

On my days off I enjoy playing hockey or going for walks and taking on hiking challenges.
