Overall Experience
A close relative was found a placement at Thorp House having declined in health in a previous care home.
The move was handled professionally and thoughtfully.
The transformation has been nothing short of incredible, with close attention paid to the service users' immediate medical needs resulting in resolution of a condition which had persisted for months; and a focus on the overall holistic care of their emotional and physical needs, examples include changing from being bed bound to mobile, isolated to social, and from supplements to a proper food intake.
I have found the staff competent, caring and crucially, able to provide consistent care to make the relative feel at home.

We were aware of the last CQC rating, but have not found any issue at all with the care delivered.

My Uncle and Aunt decided that they no longer felt safe or capable of looking after themselves in their own home and requested that I find them a place in a care home. After speaking to the manager of the local nursing home, we were able to find them a room which could accommodate them both (very rare in this area). They moved in about 3 weeks ago and seem to be very happy and settled in such a short time. This is basically due to the care and attention they have received since they moved in. They already feel part of the community and join in with most of the activities.

Thorp House is a small care home where all the staff know all the residents and their families. There is always events happening on a daily basis that can include family and are generally very lively happy experiences. My mother has been there for just over two years during which time she has received first-class treatment, specialist nursing care, physio and happy smiling faces. Family and friends are frequently invited to join their relatives for meals either in the dining room or in the residents' room. There is a very low turnover of staff compared to some other places I have visited and staff are assigned to the same group of residents so that they can get to know them and the habits, requirements very well.

Thank you for the meeting today. It was good to be part of mum's care. Secondly, you as a manager at Thorp House are truly amazing. Your organisation skills, caring manner towards staff and residents shines through. Well done you. Thirdly, I cannot praise your staff enough on how they are taking care of my mum. They are great but that comes from good management as well as their caring component which comes naturally. Special thanks to one member of staff in particular, as he is always willing to talk to me about mum, any day or anytime. Long may this relationship continue with us during the time my mum is in your care. Obviously, please keep in touch if things change and I will also. Please pass on my thanks to your wonderful team at Thorp House. But more importantly a big thank you to you, to the manager, for being such a caring manager. Kindest regards.

My husband was resident for a short period of assessment. From the beginning, all staff treated him kindly and demonstrated considerable patience with his sometimes challenging behaviour. The staff were also very welcoming and supportive towards me during a very difficult time and did everything possible to help me make the right decisions for my husband’s care. All requests were dealt with promptly and the atmosphere was very homely. At no time did I notice any unpleasant smells and the garden was a bonus. I am sure in the summer it would be even better.

I visit my friend on a regular basis in the home as she is from the village. We have been very happy with the service that is provided.
She has a lovely room overlooking the road, where she can see all of comings and goings. The home has a lovely atmosphere and the management and office staff are wonderful, nothing is too much bother.

My friend has settled rather well and it's lovely she can remain in the village she loves so much.

Claire BrooksJob Title:Home Manager

I qualified as a nurse 30 years ago. During the last 30 years, I have worked in many different areas of healthcare but have spent the last 10 years working in a care home. I am passionate about making a difference in people's lives - residents, relatives and the team here at Thorp. I joined the team here at Thorp in February 2024, The home has a fantastic family feel, which I hear every day walking around the home with laughter and fun at the heart of the home. I am looking forward to moving the home from good to outstanding. At home, I love literature and classical music to create a relaxing environment.

However, my great passion is cooking and love to learn to create new dishes for my family and friends to enjoy.

Alexia Deakin
Alexia Deakin Job Title:Deputy Manager

My Career in Healthcare began in 2014 as a newly qualified staff nurse in a specialist Cardio/Thoracic Hospital. I progressed to become a specialist Cardio/Thoracic nurse where I was in charge of a Surgical Ward and High Dependency Unit. In January 2018 I joined Kingsley Healthcare as a staff nurse at Thorp House Nursing Home. This position was very different from my previous job but was very fulfilling as I had the time to deliver person-centered care to the residents who have become like a second family to me. I became the Deputy Manager at Thorp House in August 2019 where I support the home manager in the daily running of the home making sure that the team is delivering high-quality care with compassion and empathy.

Hanna Nguyen
Hanna NguyenJob Title:Hospitality Manager

My passion for hospitality started while I was studying in Paris, around 25 years ago, I started to work at the legendary Michelin star-graded restaurant named "Au Pied de Cochon". The atmosphere, the teamwork, and the attention to detail designated the path of my life and I continued working in high-level hotels and restaurants. At Thorp House, my key focus is managing the food service operations, working closely with the chef around menu planning and preparation to deliver quality meals to our residents. I absolutely love working at Thorp. Every day is different and brings some new challenges. To see the devotion of the team in bringing the best care to the residents in their day-to-day lives in our nursing home is heart-warming.

In my spare time, I enjoy doing crocheting and puzzle-solving.

Charlotte
Charlotte Job Title:Administrator

I joined Thorp in 2017 as part of the administration team, as a friendly face to welcome residents, family and friends.

Whether that be in person or on the phone. I have over 8 years of experience having worked in insurance previously. I enjoy working at Thorp as it holds family values and is always a warm and welcoming environment.

On my days off I enjoy playing hockey or going for walks and taking on hiking challenges.
