Very pleased with Dad's care. Lovely to have cheerful and helpful staff. A staff member has responded to our suggestion for more variety in Dad's pureed food as we felt he would enjoy sponge in custard etc. She was brilliant. Another two members of staff are very supportive of activities etc. Another staff member is lovely. I always get offers of help and feel listened to.

Reply from Connie Hughes, Home Manager at Walcot Hall Nursing Home

Thank you so much for such lovely words, by engaging with the team at Walcot for any of your dad's needs will always result in us doing our upmost to ensure all his needs are met. We value your feedback and will of course share these very kind words with all my care staff and other services on site. Thank you.

Overall Experience

We believe that service is compromised by regular staff shortages. This affects our experience through slow response times when calling for assistance. Today (16/10/24) and yesterday (15/10/24), no morning teas/coffees were provided, either in the morning or afternoon. We also believe that toiletries should be provided e.g. soap, shower gel etc. Overall our experience is satisfactory but it could be improved if these matters were attended to. We like most of the staff and do not like to complain.

Reply from Connie Hughes, Home Manager at Walcot Hall Nursing Home

Thank you so much for your feedback, this is always so very helpful, to enable the team to improve on our current standards of practice. We visited our friend in Walcot Hall in September. She was terminally ill but receiving a high level of kindness and good care. On our arrival we were greeted warmly, and as we had to wait a little while, we were offered somewhere comfortable to sit and a cup of tea. She was in a lovely room and said that she was being well cared for.

Reply from Connie Hughes, Home Manager at Walcot Hall Nursing Home

Thank you so much, Janice, it is so lovely to read feedback from our friends and relatives. We always do our best to ensure everyone is looked after, I will share your comments with my whole team. Once again thank you for taking the time to write lovely word's about my care home and staff, feedback really matters.

I visited my friend who was staying in Walcot Hall Nursing Home for end-of-life care. At all times she was treated with care and compassion by your staff. Her dignity was always respected. When I visited I was always given a warm welcome by the care assistants and nothing was too much trouble.

Overall Experience
Mother-in-law was a resident for 15 years - she was always looked after well and we were always welcome. The staff knew her well and tried their best to make her happy in her last few years. She always thought of it as her home.

Marked as 4-star because recent price hikes seemed beyond inflation.

Thank you so much for your review, we are always sad to lose one of our residents and to say goodbye to their family, who are and will continue to be missed. Take care, with love, the manager and Team Walcot Hall.

I visited Walcot Hall for the first time - It is an extremely welcoming environment with cheerful staff and residents. The home is beautiful, bright and clean and the grounds are stunning. Throughout my visit I noticed residents in the communal area enjoying themselves alongside staff and families. The manager is welcoming and very knowledgeable. She showed us around and is obviously extremely proud of the home, her staff and all residents.

Overall Experience

There has been a vast improvement in the atmosphere and in the general morale of this home since a new manageress has been in charge. Residents (in the main) do not spend all day in their rooms now but meet together in "The Link" where they socialise together. There are many activities arranged for the residents with games, visiting animals (domestic) and others like musical events which all contribute to residents wanting fresh mental stimulation. Food is of an excellent standard with many choices. Overall very pleased with my brother's treatment by all staff.

At every stage of my mother's stay in the nursing home our expectations were exceeded. They kept us informed every step of the way, day and night. On her initial admission the nursing staff were very prompt in assessing my mother's condition and realised the need for further hospital assessment.

All staff, whether kitchen, care, cleaning or admission were welcoming, respect and highly supportive to ourselves as well as my mother. One younger member of the care staff acted with great sensitivity and respect accompanying my mother to the hospital, staying with her until she was admitted overnight, Then she returned home by taxi in the early morning.

My brother-in-law came to Walcot Hall and from the moment he arrived he received outstanding care and attention which was extended to his visitors. The facilities at Walcot Hall are comfortable bright and cheery. Along with the excellent food (very important to a man). Since the arrival of a new manager things have got even better.

My mother moved into Walcot Hall in November 2023, following a long spell in hospital, and has been there ever since. The team at Walcot are like one big, extended, lovely, welcoming family. My mother has been treated with nothing but kindness, dignity and respect and is really settled and happy there. All the staff are friendly, and only too happy to help. There are lots of activities on offer and not only are they all fully inclusive for all, but welcome family and friends to join in the fun too.

I have heard so many horror stories of other care facilities from friends, but Walcot is the total opposite of this - it is such a warm and welcoming place and I feel completely reassured that my mother is receiving the very best care and support. I also never realised how useful it was to have the nurses available too - they are a team of very experienced professionals who are faster than an Olympic runner in identifying any medical issues that may arise! I cannot recommend Walcot enough.

My brother was sent to Walcot Hall in April from the hospital under palliative care - he was given 2-3 weeks to live. But with the excellent care provided by everyone, he stayed with us for another 6-7 months. He could be very difficult at times due to his dementia, but the staff were always so calm and friendly with him. I cannot thank them enough and will always be thankful for those extra few months with him, so thank you from the bottom of my heart.

My wife spent almost six months in Walcot Hall. My daughters, my family, my friends and I were always made very welcome during our visits. My wife was always well looked after by genuinely caring professional staff who I like to think became her friends. We could not fault the home and what was a difficult time for us all was made much easier. Thank you to everyone, keep up the good work.

Walcott Hall is a good place for my husband to be looked after. The staff are very kind and do not try to boss him around which would not work as I well know! He enjoys the food and also the activities which are planned as much as possible. (He enjoyed the owls - they are my favourite animal also!)
