What could have been an awful experience was, in fact, made as enjoyable and comfortable as possible.
We owe a debt of gratitude to all the staff at Walcot Hall for their genuine kindness and generosity of spirit - it is a very special place.
Like to think my friend is being checked on daily. Otherwise, I'm happy with the care so far.
During my father's stay at Walcot Hall he received dedicated care and support from a very friendly team. His medicinal, mobility, and personal care requirements were always a focus for the staff, who provided us with the comfort and knowledge that whatever my father's needs were, they could be addressed immediately. The weekly activity programme helped to integrate Dad with others staying at Walcot Hall, as well as providing a series of challenges, which helped to stimulate other ideas. The food provided was varied and substantial, options were provided when necessary. At all times the staff treated Dad with dignity, which was fully appreciated by us the family.
My brother has been a resident in this home since being discharged from the hospital in March 2022. In my opinion, he is well looked after, he can be a cranky and difficult individual but is so well cared after. The staff treat him so kindly and he is so happy and content. My husband and I are content and happy with his care.
Walcot Hall and its staff delivered in very full measure, more than meeting our hopes and expectations. The quality of the home and the friendliness of the staff are second to none. Nothing was too much trouble.
I have rated details which speak for themselves. I wish to extend my thanks and good wishes to the staff. They were most kind and helpful and did everything to make my stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible.
Since my dad has been here I cannot thank them enough. This is exactly what I wanted for Dad and more. Everyone has been helpful and lovely.
My mother has been here since May last year and is very happy. She is getting to know all the staff.
Thank you so much for your review. Glad to hear that your mother is getting to know all the staff and that she is very happy with us. It means so much to the team to hear your feedback.
I visit about once a month and find things satisfactory-staff are kind and helpful.
Thank you for your positive feedback about Walcot. We are pleased that you find the staff kind and helpful. We do look to continually improve our services and we will strive to earn more stars by understanding how we can do more.
I have only been here for seven weeks. It takes a long while to settle in but I think I will be happy here.
Thank you for taking the time to send us a review. We appreciate that it can take a while to settle in with everything being so different, but we are so glad to have you with us and hope you will be very happy here. I look forward to saying hello when I next visit your home!
Staff very good and always there to help. Management easy to talk to and helpful My mother is pleased to be there. Attendees very good.
Each visit has been most satisfactory. Our friend is always happy and speaks of staff, food and care as excellent. We love to visit her as there is always a good, happy atmosphere.
I have spent two weeks at Walcot Hall Nursing Home recovering from an operation and they have been very pleasant weeks. Each member of staff has been not only proficient in their work but unfailingly supportive, cheerful and friendly. You feel that they truly care for your comfort and well-being and nothing is too much trouble. Everywhere is clean and well-maintained, the food is varied, nutritious and delicious and everything is done to keep residents entertained and active. I would not hesitate to recommend Walcot Hall Nursing Home to anyone nor to return myself should ever the need arise.
Overall, a lovely facility sadly lacking sufficient staff at times. My mother is bedridden and receiving palliative care, I have found certain staff members to be quite misunderstanding of Mum's overall condition and needs. However, most other staff are excellent. Difficult to comment on facilities as I have only been in Mum's room, however she has what she needs. Cannot fault the food or meals at all. Staff need training in basic nursing, i.e. blood tests, only two nurses able to take blood! Very poor, this holds things up for Mum.
My father has really settled in well at Walcot Hall. He joins in the activities, enjoys music sessions and sees the staff as his friends. He says he feels very lucky as everyone looks after each other. We have always been welcome when we visit. The home is in a lovely setting and we sit outside when the weather allows. The staff have always been happy to answer our 'newbie' questions and are willing to discuss Dad's medical needs so that we are reassured. We look forward to seeing the facilities when Covid restrictions allow. Walcot Hall was the right choice for Dad.
Staff are caring, helpful, thoughtful and supportive. The activities department have been outstanding, particularly when accompanying my mother when I have visited, providing reassurance, explanations and support for her. This has been particularly necessary and valuable due to the constraints of visiting in the pod, when the dividing screen and Covid-safe requirements/necessities present a barrier to communication. The administrator is very helpful and other staff are also impressive.
Thank you very much for the positive feedback, we are delighted that you are happy with the care that your mother receives. I will ensure this is shared with the team.
Everyone was very friendly and caring. My mother was looked after extremely well. Nothing was too much trouble. The nursing staff were very professional and the care staff couldn’t have been more helpful. My mother’s last few days were made as comfortable as possible and she was always treated with dignity.
Thank you very much for taking the time to complete the review.
My aunt has been a resident for six years and is so happy. The staff are caring, friendly and attentive. Personally, I think they are all amazing - particularly during the past ten months with the challenges the pandemic has caused.
Thank you, Jenny - this means so much to us all. Your Aunt is such a big part of life here at Walcot Hall. She still finds a smile during these difficult times and that inspires us all to keep going.
Mum seems, based on phone calls and 30-minute visits per fortnight, to be well and well-fed.
Hopefully, the government will indemnify care homes/nursing homes to allow longer, more regular visits.
My friend has been at Walcot Hall for 6 years. During that time I have no cause to complain about the standard of care or had any issues with the staff. Any queries can be immediately discussed and all staff have been friendly and welcoming.

Meet the Team (6)

“I have more than 38 years’ experience in nursing and management roles, across the NHS, Acute Health, and Social Care, and more recently with private Health Care Organisations. I am an ambassador for Dementia Care and an Older Person’s Nurse Fellow with King's College London –I take great pride in all my roles and am passionate about caring for the older person. I work hard with all my teams, which includes my residents, staff and family members, to provide the best possible standards of person-centred care, along with ensuring as much as possible that every resident is happy, cared for and is living their best life within the care environment.”

I consider myself good at my job due to my strong organisational skills, adaptability, friendliness, and excellent relationships with residents, staff, and visitors. I believe I enrich the lives of the residents in our home by being friendly and always making time to chat with them, which they appreciate. In terms of relevant education and training, I have a background in the Civil Service, having worked with the DWP for nearly 30 years in various roles, including fraud detection and benefits processing.
I often go on walks with my springer spaniel, Herbie, and find great joy in my garden and being outdoors when I'm not at work.

I've worked in Walcot Hall for about 13 years now, and I must say it's a lovely home with a very friendly staff team. It's a wonderful place to work, with beautiful views. I have a real passion for cooking, and I always make sure that the meals I prepare are of the highest standard and quality. I'm proud to say that I've completed all of my training in food and hygiene, and my kitchen has a 5-star rating.

I’ve worked in care for over 12 years, starting in nursing homes straight after school, completing my Nursing Degree, and working as a district nurse before joining Walcot Hall. What I enjoy most here is the friendly, fun environment we create for our residents. I want Walcot Hall to feel like a true home, from the laughter and happiness to the compassionate, person-centred care we provide every day. Nothing is ever too much trouble when it comes to enriching our residents’ lives.

I love being part of a supportive team and bringing joy to each day, whether that’s through creativity, fun activities, or simply sharing a dance in the sunshine. I enrich residents’ lives by making them smile and encouraging them to try things they may not think they can do, which is incredibly rewarding to see them achieve. I have completed all mandatory training and bring over 20 years of experience as a sheltered housing officer, which has given me a strong foundation for my role at Walcot Hall.

I enjoy working with a fantastic, supportive team and being part of such a positive environment across all departments. I enrich residents’ lives by leading fun, engaging exercise sessions that promote wellbeing and bring plenty of laughter, and it’s always rewarding when they ask for more. I bring over 20 years of experience in education and am qualified to deliver exercise to music and chair-based exercise for older adults.
