Overall Experience

During the past month my mother has really settled into the home and it’s a relief to see her so content and comfortable. All of the staff we interact with are approachable, efficient and very caring. Communication could be a problem with situations like ours but the team has gone out of the way to keep us informed of what is happening. Nursing care is very good and any possible problems are observed and well attended to (for example my mum’s sore lip which needed treatment). One thing we would appreciate, but realise the post covid situation has been an impact, is more church or spiritual activity as we’d been led to understand this was a key element of the care when selecting a home. We accept this may also be dependent on the interaction of the local clergy rather than the home. On the whole extremely happy and impressed.

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review, yes unfortunately the church visits have been impacted due to covid, we're in regular contact with the church and hoping they'll be able to provide a regular service soon.

My mother had therapy at Barchester Woodside House Care Home for six months. It was all quite excellent. They were all extremely loving, there was so much to do, and they helped her become better so she could be discharged. They were completely satisfactory, to us. It's lovely and extremely nice. Everything was neat, clean, and in order. There was nothing that didn't seem excellent.

My overall stay has been extremely beneficial and helpful in my overall recovery from my operation. After the initial blip, I have had great treatment from all quarters of the care home. Hopefully, I won't need another "hip" operation, but I would definitely be back!

My stepmother of 97 was wheelchair-bound when she became a resident. She was disabled and wheelchair-bound. A very determined character trying to keep her independence but needing help. She gradually accepted this from the attentive carers and settled well. Within 4 weeks her pacemaker failed and she became bedbound. The care she received in the final weeks was second to none. All the staff from management to nursing staff and carers were cheerful, kind, and sympathetic. The home was bright, clean, tidy and the atmosphere calm and friendly. I would like to express my thanks to the staff and cannot praise them enough.

I was most caringly looked after whilst convalescing following and operation. The caringness and warm friendliness of all the staff were truly appreciated. I returned home after a happy two weeks at Woodside, ready and able to look after myself.

Woodside House is a lovely home and my mum was very well cared for during her two years there. The whole staff team are excellent, very friendly and welcoming to our family. The staff are very caring and professional in their roles and obviously care greatly for their residents, respecting their wishes. It is an excellent environment, the rooms are spacious and there are activities arranged if they wish to participate. Overall it was the best home we looked at and are so pleased we choose it for our mum.

I stayed here for three weeks after a time in hospital. The facilities were comfortable and adequate. The food was overall very good, varied and tasty. The staff were very helpful and provided as much assistance as you required. As I got stronger I required less assistance and the staff hen respected my privacy.

There was entertainment provided and I did attend the remembrance concert which was very good. Overall, highly recommended for a short or long stay.

The care given by the staff is exceptional, they treat the resident with great dignity. The events team include the resident whenever it's possible which stimulates the resident.

The nursing staff keep me informed if needs be. The care/nursing home is very clean and the food is good, when it's hard to meet everyone's requirements everyone is very kind to me and respects me if I have any questions.

Woodside Care Home has restored my faith in carers. Since both my parents came to live here, they have improved so much. The care is exceptional, the manager is so understanding and caring. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. They are amazing. It was a hard decision to make moving my parents into a care home but Woodside has made this the best decision. We can never thank them enough. The entertainment is also fantastic.

My inlaws have been here for one week, and the difference in them is incredible. They are more alert, happy, not confused or agitated. The staff are fabulous, caring and helpful. They now enjoy the garden, home-cooked food, seeing the family. We are so pleased and now do not worry all the time that our parents are being properly cared for. Well done to all the staff at this amazing care home.

I was kept regularly informed of my wife's well-being during lockdown, but of course, visits were spasmodic, to say the least. This was not of the homes doing, I fully accept.
Unfortunately, the arrival and very quick spread of Covid at the turn of the year resulted in many deaths, my wife included. It was clear that the home did struggle with this outbreak and communication with certainly myself could have been better, and certainly more professional and empathetic, despite the very difficult circumstances.

I have tried on a number of occasions to contact the home to volunteer, and to ask about a memorial for those residents who lost their lives due to Covid, especially in early 2021, and have been brushed off repeatedly. This is a real shame, as I do believe that my wife was well cared for during her stay of nearly a year at the home, and am a little disillusioned with their current inaction.

My mother and father had been residents for a respite period of 3 weeks and hoping to be residents. Unfortunately, my father passed away on his 6th day in Woodside House and my mother then requested to return to her home. Their 6 days were wonderful for them both. Total 100% care which I couldn't fault in any way. The staff are amazing across the board, nothing was too much trouble at all. Woodside House staff were nothing but professional throughout my parents 6 days. Aided me and my mother when father passed away in his room in the early hours. Just couldn't ask for more!

My father recently moved to Barchester Woodside House Care Home, after 3 weeks in a hospice. The care and warm welcome he received at Woodside has been exceptional. The staff are warm, kind, caring. The facilities, rooms and gardens are of a very high standard. Most importantly my father seems very happy, enjoying events organised and secure. A great comfort to me and my family. I can't thank you enough. The staff all do a wonderful job and always with a smile.

My relative lived at Woodside House for two and a half years and was always full of praise for the high standards he experienced in every aspect of his care. As his next of kin and a regular visitor, that is what I experienced too. The staff in all areas managed to cope with precise professionalism with respectful and friendly courtesy, there is real warmth in the atmosphere, and it is a home in the very real sense. Certainly, my relative felt 'at home' soon after moving in.

In 2018, I moved to the NHS, where I spent eight years working on Dementia Assessment wards. Recently, I felt it was time to return to where my heart has always been—back to Woodside House.

I hope to bring my skills, knowledge, and experience to support the team, especially newer staff, and to continue providing dedicated, compassionate care to our residents. I aim to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who call Woodside House their home.
