Barking Hall is a well-established care home set in beautiful surroundings just outside Needham Market in Suffolk. The dedicated team provides quality residential, nursing, and respite care, offering long-term carers a well-deserved break or holiday. My Father went to Barking Hall for end-of-life care and was greeted by caring and friendly staff. His room was clean and comfortable looking out to the courtyard. Staff were always very caring towards my Mother as well when visiting and always had a smile and offered a cup of tea and cake making visiting
very much easier in the circumstances. Was always kept up to date regarding his care. We would highly recommend Barking Hall to anyone looking for care.

Our son was a resident at Barking Hall since October 2019 the care he received from all staff was exellent and the care he needed was very intense but was always treated with respect and love. We lost our son four weeks ago. Thank you all for all your care.

My mum was a resident at Barking Hall for almost two years until she passed away in December. During that time, she was so well looked after by all the staff and could not have been in a better place to care for her advanced dementia. I don't live locally but felt totally confident that my mum received
the best possible care and was treated with dignity. My dad visited her every day and was always made to feel welcome and involved by all the staff, whether management, medical/nursing or domestic. The home itself has the feel of a traditional country house and is beautifully located in peaceful surroundings. Mum's room was comfortable and clean, with its own bathroom. I cannot thank Barking Hall staff enough for the kindness and respect they showed me, Mum and Dad, as Mum reached the end of life.

Food is bland and poorly cooked. Fabric of the building is tired, dated and in a poor decorative state. Carpets stained. Staff poorly motivated, local managers do not last long! Non-UK staff tell residents that they have to send wages back to their country of origin. This care home lacks the ability
to care. Maintenance is very poor (two weeks to fix toilets in rooms). Cooks do not last long in this establishment, hence poor food. The upper level fire escape is constructed of metal and very slippery when wet. It also has brambles growing into it from the adjoining bank and partially blocking it, not ideal for elderly patients. Management lacks the ability or compassion to run this establishment.

After being advised our grandmother is now having end-of-life treatment, myself and my sister visited her today. I asked the frosty lady who "greeted" us on arrival if a syringe driver was in situ as yet as this is what I was advised by members of my family who had spent all night with her. I was met
was a snappy "she doesn't need one". There was clearly some confusion which can happen but the response we received was as though we had personally offended this member of staff just by asking a question. She continued to be hostile with us so I asked why she treating us that way. She denied being hostile, she advised us she is the deputy manager and when I asked for an apology she stormed out of my grandmother's room and slammed the door. I'm very upset, it was very distressing and couldn't have happened at a worse time. It's a shame as other staff members have been wonderful. I'm so shocked to have this kind of treatment from management.

Barking Hall is generally a warm and friendly place where people choose to come and spend their last months or years and your grandmother was I know highly thought of amongst the staff team and is very much missed by us all.

My wife went into Barking Hall on 16th February 2023 for four weeks respite care and from the minute she set foot inside the home she was treated with care and compassion from all the staff. Nothing was too much trouble and everyone was so caring and happy in their work and went out of their way to
ensure that she enjoyed her stay there. From carers to domestic staff, to the nurses and the kitchen staff, all were so kind to her and to myself when I visited. They must have gotten fed up with me spending seven hours a day there, constantly getting in their way! Two staff members were very helpful and always had time to stop for a chat. The food was brilliant, my wife ate better than she has done in a long time. I will certainly miss my daily visit and the best thing for me was when she said If she ever have to go into a home permanently she would want to come to Barking Hall. Thank you again for all you have done for my wife.

Mum was only at the home for a short time, but all staff were caring and kind and looked after Mum brilliantly. As a family, we were made to feel very welcome, and it felt that nothing was too much trouble. All staff caring, cleaners, admin and kitchen were so supportive.

From the initial visit to look around and subsequent stay of my father, I was highly impressed with Barking Hall Nursing Home. All of the staff were extremely friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. The food always looked nice, and the bedrooms are of a very high standard. The deputy manager was
especially helpful with everything. I would not hesitate to recommend this care home to anybody considering having a family member reside there. Well done, everyone, you are doing a marvellous job.

I always felt her was very well looked after. The staff went out of their way to make him comfortable, and once he settled, he seemed very relaxed and calm. Sometimes he felt depressed, but so would anybody in his position, but he seemed to recover quite quickly. I would certainly recommend Barking

The care and nursing were outstanding. I felt that I wasn't given enough information regarding funding, how to get funding and power of attorney. I still don't know if my mother had the capacity.

My nan stayed at Barking Hall recently for some respite care. She lives on her own since my Grandad died last year. Barking Hall is just great, they welcomed her with open arms and treated her really well. The food she says was really lovely, home-cooked meals - just what she likes. Her favourite was
the cream tea she had for her birthday. The staff have been in touch with her since she came home, just to see how she is doing. Can't fault anything. They all work so hard trying to help everyone. The Manager is first-rate, running everything behind the scenes.

I have always found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. My brother receives care and although he is unable to tell us how he feels, he appears to be happy and well cared for. Visiting is more difficult at the moment and limited understandably the situation is hard on everyone at the moment.

The staff at Barking Hall have worked very hard to keep standards of care high within all the Covid restrictions. At times staffing has been stretched to their limits but somehow they have coped. I would like to see staff rewarded when restrictions are lifted in some way. I feel they need to know how

Thank you so much for your lovely review. I know our amazing Home Manager has worked really hard to support all our lovely staff to give the best care to our residents throughout the Covid pandemic. She even moved in to the home in June last year when Covid was at its height to ensure our residents were safe and well looked after and the staff properly supported. Be assured their efforts have not gone unnoticed.
I know I speak for all the staff at Barking Hall when I say they couldn't have done it without the leadership of our Manager. Our whole team really is the very best - I am so glad I have recently joined them.

I went to stay at Barking Hall Nursing Home at the end of May. This will be my third respite visit. Since my husband died in the summer of last year I have lived on my own and became rather unwell of late. The stay at Barking Hall resolved my appetite loss, lovely home-cooked traditional food every
day. The staff who looked after me were really sweet, I was assisted to have a soak in the bath nearly every day I was there. Such a delight, I can't manage my bath at home. I had my hair done and they decorated my room with balloons for my birthday and I had a cream tea and a lovely birthday cake in the afternoon. Although I enjoy my independence, it is so lovely not to have to worry about anything and have a smiling face waking me up in the morning with a nice cup of tea and breakfast in bed. Barking Hall staff really are lovely and caring, thank you. I will miss you all

After looking at a few nursing homes before Mum moved into Barking Hall, I felt the this was the homely one for her and close to her family. Mum was always treated with kindness, caring, patience and a sense of humour! Entertainment staff, in particular, have been excellent in enabling me to either
FaceTime or speak with her on the phone during these difficult times. All the staff worked very hard to keep her happy and comfortable through this difficult time. We knew she was in safe hands and her final days were made a little bit easier by the staff kindness to Mum and also to me and my family. Thank you, everybody, for your outstanding care and compassion and I'd highly recommend Barking Hall for a relative/friend.

My sister-in-law was a resident for the past 2 years. She was very happy and thought of the staff as her family. She joined in all the activities and really loved the days out the staff organised.
I and my sister were also made very welcome when we visited, and we cannot praise Barking Hall enough
for the care and attention they gave her.
It was with deep sadness that my sister-in-law lost her life on 11th June 2020 after a short spell in hospital, she will be sadly missed by everyone who came into contact with her.
