Chilton Meadows offers residential, nursing and dementia care. It also offers a space for people to rest, relax and recover after an operation or illness with short stays too. Short stays can be booked in advance of your stay, get in touch for more information.

It's a bright, spacious home, situated in a rural location on the edge of the historic market town of Stowmarket, where staff take great care to focus on the person. It’s important for residents to feel at home, so they create a friendly environment with an individually appropriate balance of care and independence.

Enjoying food is an important part of life. The chefs create well-crafted menus made with the freshest ingredients. Soon after a resident arrives at Chilton Meadows, staff discuss personal preferences and dietary needs with them.

There’s a real sense of community at Chilton Meadows. The staff work to discover what residents enjoy doing and the home's social calendar is organised around those interests. So whether the resident already has a hobby or would like to take up a new one, there are lots of exciting activities to get involved in.

Staff love getting to know residents and there’s never a dull moment. The care home puts on lots of activities that everyone can join in with and the activities are just as much fun for staff as it is for residents.

Care is good. Confidentiality is dreadful. Have overheard staff speaking horribly to residents but the care my relative has received is good. Communication is bad. Management - no clue who they are/never around. One occasion the manager was dismissive but that was at the beginning. Place is clean but
tired. Activities are good.

Welcoming & warm environment. Activities that residents can all join in on even if on another unit. Varying meals, with options. Toilets are dated, not always clean & don't have correct bins - yellow bin etc. Staff lovely but stretched when residents just need time & supportive conversations to help
them remain calm.
Reply from Alison Horridge, Customer Advisor on behalf of the team at Chilton Meadows Care HomeThank you for your feedback. We are glad to hear that you find the home welcoming and warm. We will certainly pass your comments regarding the toilet bins and staffing on to our management team.

I visit my Dad weekly and he is very happy. He loves the food and has put on weight since being at the home. He is normally very solitary but has started to socialise more. He especially likes the bingo and summer fete. His room could be cleaned a little more often but that is my only complaint. The
staff are lovely and always listen to my concerns regarding any health issues.
Reply from Natasha Burns-Leigh, Customer Service Advisor at Chilton Meadows Care HomeThank you for your kind words. It's wonderful to know that you feel your loved one has been well cared for- that's exactly what we strive for. We're delighted that your dad has found the activities to be enjoyable- we believe staying active and connected makes a real difference to wellbeing. We will discuss your feedback with the home's manager to help them continually improve their service.

The staff are always friendly and welcoming. They work hard to provide care and support. Mum and Dad are well cared for and happy. Communication with the unit is good and they phone me if needed. Mum and Dad are familiar with all the carers and we are grateful for their hard work and care. I have still
not received my portal login - forms given in months ago and chased up several times.

My uncle moved to Chilton Medows because his previous care home could not care for his declining and difficult dementia journey.
I cannot speak highly enough of the staff & this care home. They were amazing with my uncle and went above and beyond.
They treated my uncle with dignity and respect, even
when his dementia made him be abusive and difficult to the staff.

We regularly review our homes to assess their suitability for providing high quality care for residents. Unfortunately, our review found that we could not continue to meet those standards on Beech Unit at Chilton Meadows, we therefore had to make the difficult decision to close the unit. We worked with all those affected to make sure they were able to find a suitable new home. We are glad to hear that the staff at Chilton Meadows were hard working and caring as we always strive to offer the best possible care.

My Mum spent her final years at Chiltern Meadows. Living overseas we had been very worried about the care Mum had been getting at home and a social worker found this home. From day one we realized the nursing staff were so caring and thoughtful and we felt Mum was safe, happy and finally being looked
after properly. But even the office staff, gardeners, kitchen team, everyone, I can't say enough how wonderful they all are. They would make sure mum had daily visits, would bring their dogs to see her, always made sure she had bird feeders filled by her window. If you are looking for a home that goes above and beyond this is the place to choose. I don't think I can put into words how thankful we will always be to the staff there they really made it a home from home for our dear Mum

I feel that Mum has settled well into the care home. I have always found it to be very clean and every member of staff are always kind and friendly and always help Mum. There are always lots of activities going on and mum has joined in with a lot of them. Mum has said there is plenty of food and if
you don't like what is on the menu you can have something else. I definitely feel like Mum is very well looked after by staff who genuinely care.

Mum has been here for nearly two years now and I have nothing but praise for the care she has been given. The carers are very understanding of her dementia and physical needs and nothing is too much trouble for them. The entertainment team are also amazing. Mum particularly loves the musical entertainment
and playing Bingo but has also taken part in baking, painting and flower arranging. Everyone is also very friendly and welcoming to all family visitors so we all feel like one big family. The variety of food is also very good, especially with her dietary needs.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.421)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.421) out of 10 for Chilton Meadows Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 31 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.421 for Chilton Meadows Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (214 Excellents x 5) + (110 Goods x 4) + (34 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 368 Ratings = 4.421
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Chilton Meadows Care Home is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 120 registered maximum number of service users is 24, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
