It's a bright, spacious home, situated in a rural location on the edge of the historic market town of Stowmarket, where staff take great care to focus on the person. It’s important for residents to feel at home, so they create a friendly environment with an individually appropriate balance of care and independence.

Enjoying food is an important part of life. The chefs create well-crafted menus made with the freshest ingredients. Soon after a resident arrives at Chilton Meadows, staff discuss personal preferences and dietary needs with them.

All staff are very friendly and helpful. All the family are made so welcome, Mums care needs are totally met. After having a previous bad experience in another care home, we now have piece of mind in Chilton Meadows. No negative to report, totally happy.

Happy with the care my mum has received for the last seven months. Staff are friendly and helpful. A lot of activities are organized for the residents and their families. The meals always look good and it is nice someone bakes cakes and brings them in for residents to enjoy. Nice clean care home. Would
recommend.

My dad was placed in this home last year, I think it is a beautifully run care home. The carers are all so lovely and welcoming. The care home does a lot of days out to keep the residents occupied, such as days at the beach, summer fayres, going to museums. My dad settled in very well. They are also
fed well, and always have a variety of foods to serve for the residents.

I have visited the home two or more times a week. The care and devotion shown to my sister-in-law was outstanding. Not only to her but as visitors we were treated like family, nothing was too much for the staff.
This home was excellent in every way.

My experience of Chilton Meadows is superb. Over the last 18 months since my wife has been a resident, she has been looked over by a very willing and kind staff who have given her the very best of their attention. Always it is comforting to know the local GP attends three times a week but also is close
at hand if necessary in an emergency.
The food is very good, as I know from experience as I have lunch there three times a week and can certainly vouch for that.
During the week there is different entertainment for the residents if they wish to take part. Also, a hairdresser is also available if the ladies like to have their hair attended to.
All in all, I find that Chilton Meadows is a place you can rest assured that you partner or relative is in the best place for their attention and comfort and have no hesitation in recommending it to anybody. Than you.

Having visited this home firstly about five years ago, on a weekly basis when a relative was a resident, and weekly for the past six months, I have found it to be one of the finest of all the care establishments I have been to and the residents that I visit have never complained about any aspect of
care, food, cleanliness or anything else, but full of praise. There have been changes over the time between my visits but as far as I can see - only for the good of patients and staff.

Whilst my father has been in the home for just about two weeks we have seen a marked improvement in his disposition. The staff are courteous, the surroundings are calm and pleasant. The food is adequate and plentiful. We are hopeful that in a short time my father will accept the home becoming his home.

In the nearly two years that my mum was a resident of Gainsborough House, she had the most caring of staff. They were wonderful and she was very well looked after. Although she couldn't join in with activities she did like the sing-alongs, but for those that could join in, there were lots of different
things to do. The food was of a very high standard and plenty of it.

My husband went into the care home in 2015. Gainsborough House staff gave him excellent care and attention.

All staff gave him dignity and privacy.

We couldn't ask for more. Thank you, everyone, for all your TLC.

As far as I can remember, each year there has been new management.

My husband was a resident at Chilton Meadows for the last 7 months of his life, until he died. He had Parkinson's disease and dementia. We moved him from a private care home where he spent over four years, the last two years of which he was bedridden. The financial situation first caused us to think
of moving him. We had a rough ride from the owner because of this but we also saw he needed nursing care. The care at Chilton Meadows was wonderful. His condition was understood and the care by nurses and experienced carers made such a difference. My husband had severe contractures, could not speak, long before he was moved to Chilton Meadows. He settled and had a peaceful seven months there. I should have said he had been on end of life care from April 2014.

My wife has been resident for nearly 5 years, she could walk about at first but is now in a large wheelchair. She has shown no response for 12 years, does not speak or show any signs of recognition. In all this time I have not seen or witnessed anything to cause me alarm. She has advanced dementia.

The standard of care from the home and particularly the care and consideration given by staff is much higher than I would have anticipated.
The infrastructure is a bit 'tired' but this is of secondary concern, compared to the aim of ensuring that my dad is well cared for.

I found most of the staff kind and caring. I disliked the constant use of agency staff as there was a lack of a familiar face.
My grandmother seemed to be well cared for and settled very quickly into life at the home.
The volunteers who rang the activities all made an effort to include everyone and
showed a real connection with a lot of residents.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.471)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.471) out of 10 for Chilton Meadows Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.704 for Chilton Meadows Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (172 Excellents x 5) + (44 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 226 Ratings = 4.704
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.767 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Chilton Meadows Care Home is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 120 registered maximum number of service users is 24. 19 Positive Reviews ÷ 24 = 0.792
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
