It's a bright, spacious home, situated in a rural location on the edge of the historic market town of Stowmarket, where staff take great care to focus on the person. It’s important for residents to feel at home, so they create a friendly environment with an individually appropriate balance of care and independence.

Enjoying food is an important part of life. The chefs create well-crafted menus made with the freshest ingredients. Soon after a resident arrives at Chilton Meadows, staff discuss personal preferences and dietary needs with them.

There’s a real sense of community at Chilton Meadows. The staff work to discover what residents enjoy doing and the home's social calendar is organised around those interests. So whether the resident already has a hobby or would like to take up a new one, there are lots of exciting activities to get involved in.

Staff love getting to know residents and there’s never a dull moment. The care home puts on lots of activities that everyone can join in with and the activities are just as much fun for staff as it is for residents.

My grandmother continues to receive a high quality of care. If things do not always go to plan, there is always someone available to explain and reassure.

Review from C A G (Stepdaughter of Resident) published on 31 January 2018 Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
My stepdad had spent several years at a private nursing home which has gone downhill over the years. Due to financial restrictions/affordability, my Mum had to move my stepdad but then was psychologically bullied by the owner of the other private home when she chose to move him. I am a nurse myself
and in the NHS he would have been disciplined.

I noticed a difference straight away. Chiltern Meadow is unlike the other. It includes qualified nurses, the standard of care they can give is superior as they have more medical knowledge and they are clinically professional. That makes a big difference. I don't understand why the CQC says requires improvement? In my experience, both personally and professionally, Chiltern Meadows is outstanding.
My mum was given choices as to his room which is near the day room as my stepdad needs total nursing care and so he is less isolated than in the previous care home.

Reply from Jayne Duck, Customer services administrator at Chilton Meadows Care HomeThank you for your review and kind words. I hope that your stepdad is now happy and that you and your family have peace of mind knowing that he is safe and well cared for.

I find the staff in Beech House dedicated and hard working. Our mum has improved in her health in the 2 years she has been here in lots of ways and especially enjoys anything musical. Obviously, dementia is worse but that is to be expected. Staff are friendly and helpful. I admire them for the work
they do. Any health issues eg chest infections are dealt with quickly.

It is lovely to know that she is enjoying the musical activities. I hope that you have peace of mind knowing that she is well cared for.

When my mother went into a care home in May 2013 the care was adequate for her needs. Over the past 18 months, even the basic care that she is getting and what she pays for is not adequate. I feel she, as many other residents, should get a reduction in what they pay for. I do realise they have staffing
issues and they are doing the best that they can and I am sure I am not the only relative that has these concerns for their loved ones.

My mum was in Chilton Meadows for 2 years. In my experience, she was well cared for. She was always clean and tidy. There were days when she didn't' want to get up or go to the day room, but was kept an eye on. They persevered and many times managed to get her to join the others.

My mother was in Chilton Meadows for about 18 months. She was very well cared for. She was taken ill at Easter 2017. The care and attention shown to her and myself in her last weeks by the staff there was excellent.

My dearest mum was a resident for four years until her passing. She was well looked after by all the staff, they were fantastic. She loved them all dearly. My sisters, brother and I were so grateful that she was so contented in her final years.

Due to certain health problems, resident was not always easy to deal with and could be stubborn and uncooperative. On my once-weekly visit to the resident, I admired the sensitive and gentle way all staff members dealt with the resident, always showing great caring and patience.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.471)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.471) out of 10 for Chilton Meadows Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.704 for Chilton Meadows Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (172 Excellents x 5) + (44 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 226 Ratings = 4.704
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.767 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Chilton Meadows Care Home is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 120 registered maximum number of service users is 24. 19 Positive Reviews ÷ 24 = 0.792
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
