Rated Good by the CQC (May 2026), Melford Court is a residential and nursing care home occupying a Grade II listed house on Hall Street in Long Melford, one of the finest high streets in Suffolk, lined with antique shops, independent galleries and historic architecture. The period character is well preserved, giving the home a quality felt immediately on arrival. Daily life here is closely connected to the surrounding community, with cafes, green spaces and seasonal events all within easy reach. For residents who have spent years in this part of Suffolk, the setting carries a familiarity that matters greatly.

The home provides residential and nursing care, well suited to residents whose needs may change over time. The home has a strong reputation for clear communication and a well organised team, with families often describing reliable updates, returned calls and concerns that are heard, a reliability many value as much as the care environment itself.

Accommodation is available in en-suite rooms, with communal lounges, a dining room overlooking the gardens, and outdoor space to enjoy throughout the year. The listed building's proportions give rooms and shared spaces a character that reflects the home's heritage, and all rooms can be personalised.
Meals are freshly prepared on site each day by the home's chef, with dietary needs catered for. A GP visits regularly, and chiropodist, optician and dental appointments can be arranged as needed.

A varied programme of activities runs throughout the week, from creative arts and gentle exercise to social events, quizzes and one to one time. The gardens provide a natural setting for outdoor activities and sitting in the warmer months, and a hairdresser visits regularly.

In the 2026 family survey, 100% of families said their relative feels safe, trusts the care team, and would recommend Melford Court to others, and 86% rated the home Outstanding across four key quality measures.

The care at Melford Court for my mum with end of life care was excellent. The staff - Medical, Admin and Care was excellent.
Before going there I was concerned like many family members are that my mum was going to get the best care. I wasn't disappointed.
The Nursing home was clean, in good order
and had freshly prepared food every day. I can't thank the team enough for their support.
Thank you to one and all at Melford Court.

My 96-year-old father became a resident here in July 2017. He is not an easy man, having had a life long history of being sometimes difficult and sometimes unpleasant.

This remarkable nursing home, management and all staff have made him so welcome. They have treated him with the utmost respect, tact

and sheer professionalism. I cannot praise all the wonderful staff too highly.

Special praise to a certain RGN - a quiet, yet highly professional nurse. With correct medication, care plan, activities, they have transformed my life and my father's. He is kept clean and cared for and is eating again, despite difficult circumstances.

I have nothing but praise for my mothers care home. Although my mother has been reluctant to give up her independence, the home has done everything possible to help her settle in. The staff are always helpful and cheery to both residents and visitors and any shortcomings are listened to and actioned.
My
sister and I have seen other care homes for relatives and this is by far the best in terms of care.

Since the deputy manager took over she has been promoting getting my brother out of his bed and into the garden. The staff are always very good to me and greet me with a smile.

I am very happy with the care that my brother receives and I am always welcomed with a friendly smile when we enter the building and I am always asked how I am which is very nice.

I try to visit the home twice a month. My relative is bedbound so doesn't leave his room. The staff are friendly and my relative is in good spirits. He has no complaints and I have never had any cause to complain. I am kept up to date with his health and they have contacted me in an emergency. I know
he is in good hands and I have no worries about leaving him there.

After a difficult start it has been a steady improvement.
My Aunt was placed here against our initial advice but the dedicated and evolving staff has provided great care and has listened to criticism and made the right judgements.
The vocation-able girls (and boys) have been kept and have made a tremendous
improvement on the quality of my aunt's last few months. Sadly she passed away today but I give my heart felt thanks to all involved with her EOL care.
A special thanks to the staff who went above and beyond. I wish them all the best.

I visit a very good friend on a very regular basis. The staff are kind and polite and do a very good job in sometimes difficult circumstances. The food is of a good standard but probably too plentiful for inactive residents (probably creates a lot of waste).
Overall I see that a good standard of care
is given to my friend.

We moved my father to Melford Court when his mobility deteriorated rapidly over 12 months ago. He was made most welcome and settled in well despite developing dementia. The staff on the residential wing are friendly and caring whether medical, personal care, housekeeping or catering. He has even been
persuaded to take part in activities on a good day. He has become increasingly reluctant to lease his bed but the carers try to encourage him and make the most of his cooperative days to get him in the bath. I am always made most welcome and kept up to date with any issues when I visit or by phone. I am so pleased to have found somewhere this goo where I can leave him especially when visiting the family in New Zealand.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.689)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.689) out of 10 for Melford Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.789 for Melford Court is calculated as follows: ( (150 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 185 Ratings = 4.789
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Melford Court is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
