Rated Good by the CQC (May 2026), Melford Court is a residential and nursing care home occupying a Grade II listed house on Hall Street in Long Melford, one of the finest high streets in Suffolk, lined with antique shops, independent galleries and historic architecture. The period character is well preserved, giving the home a quality felt immediately on arrival. Daily life here is closely connected to the surrounding community, with cafes, green spaces and seasonal events all within easy reach. For residents who have spent years in this part of Suffolk, the setting carries a familiarity that matters greatly.

The home provides residential and nursing care, well suited to residents whose needs may change over time. The home has a strong reputation for clear communication and a well organised team, with families often describing reliable updates, returned calls and concerns that are heard, a reliability many value as much as the care environment itself.

Accommodation is available in en-suite rooms, with communal lounges, a dining room overlooking the gardens, and outdoor space to enjoy throughout the year. The listed building's proportions give rooms and shared spaces a character that reflects the home's heritage, and all rooms can be personalised.
Meals are freshly prepared on site each day by the home's chef, with dietary needs catered for. A GP visits regularly, and chiropodist, optician and dental appointments can be arranged as needed.

A varied programme of activities runs throughout the week, from creative arts and gentle exercise to social events, quizzes and one to one time. The gardens provide a natural setting for outdoor activities and sitting in the warmer months, and a hairdresser visits regularly.

In the 2026 family survey, 100% of families said their relative feels safe, trusts the care team, and would recommend Melford Court to others, and 86% rated the home Outstanding across four key quality measures.

My husband was moved to Melford Court for palliative care due to a brain tumour operation (alignment) during the pandemic. Unfortunately, I was unable to visit during lockdown until end of life plan was put in place. My experience was, for my husband in extraordinary times, excellent! Everyone working
relentlessly hard for all of the patients under extreme, adverse conditions.

The staff at Melford Court have looked after my mother in such a caring manner in what has been the most challenging year we could not have even imagined. They have facilitated safe visits for which I am so grateful. They have stepped in to be more like family, when actual families have been kept away.
Reply from Eve Fynn, Marketing and Communications Lead at Melford CourtThank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to give us such a positive review. The staff really appreciate your comments. It is an absolute pleasure to be able to support you as a family during these challenging times.

We had to find my mother a nursing home ASAP. We found the staff at Melford Court helpful, sympathetic and professional. Mother was in her room, safe and warm with the minimum of distress within a few hours. The ongoing care has been exemplary.

My father has come to stay post-op for respite care. The pre-assessment process was very good. My father has been here two weeks. Everybody here is very kind and caring which is not always the case in other case homes. My father is a very independent man and the nursing care have been very supportive,
as well as sensitive. Also, a big bonus about Melford Court is that the food is very good, freshly prepared with fresh fruit salad.

Since my mum came to Melford Court she has blossomed from a quiet subdued person to one who now engages with everyone and joins in all the activities.
The staff and management should be very proud. The quality of care mum has received is of a high standard which I'm sure they will continue to maintain.
The standard of food is first class, cakes amazing. All in all, I would not hesitate to recommend this home from home

Our terminally ill Mum spent the last 4 weeks of her life at Melford court. From the very first day, the staff and management were friendly and welcoming. Mum was given a nice room with a big window and lots of room for her clothes, cards, flowers etc. We hung some of Mum's own pictures on the wall
to make it feel even more homely. It was soon clear that the carers and nurses were dedicated to their work and genuinely cared for Mum's wellbeing. They treated her with dignity, respect and kindness.

We are extremely happy with our family's choice of Melford Court to spent mam's twilight days. The care staff are always welcoming, happy, enthusiastic and willing to see to mum's needs at any time.
We cannot fault the care afforded to mam. The rooms are comfortable and well-equipped and the catering
is of a good standard. Great that the care staff make every effort to involve mam in the various activities so that she feels more involved and at home. Thank you very much.

Dad has been in this home 3 months, he is looked after so well and is happy and kept clean and warm. He has great meals and on his 100th birthday he was loved and made a fuss of. Often he is unaware of his situation. I feel content with his care.

All the staff are very welcoming, they all make you feel at home and make all the family feel relaxed and safe. They go out of their way to make sure your family member is cared for and safe. If you have any questions to ask them they answer it and help you with things you need. You can go and visit
your family member any time, day or night, there are no visiting times like hospitals have. They have a family room where you are very welcome to have tea or coffee and cake any time you wish. The garden is very tidy and beautiful, you can walk around it or just sit and chill out. No-one can get in the door without pressing the bell and a member of staff checks who you are and has a camera for them to see your face to let you in. It's very safe as soon as you walk in the home. It's a homely smell and staff smile at you with eye to eye contact and listen to you. After your family has passed away they make sure all of the family is ok and come back another day to empty the room and talk to staff.

My mother in law arrived at Melford Court in October 2017 after spending 4 months in a care home in Hertfordshire. She had lost a tremendous amount of weight and looked quite dishevelled. Within a few days at Melford Court, she was eating, she looked smart, she was clean and she was taking interest
in everything that was going on around her.

The staff made her feel human again and not just an old person who needed looking after. The staff included mum into all the activities at the home and would take her for walks along the high street which she loved. We are so thankful to Melford Court for their care and love they give to all their residents who live at the home.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.689)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.689) out of 10 for Melford Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.789 for Melford Court is calculated as follows: ( (150 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 185 Ratings = 4.789
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Melford Court is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
