Mum, who has Alzheimers and advanced breast cancer had a fall at home and moved into Mill Lane for respite care. After 3 weeks we were able to get her back in and out of our car and she was walking pretty well. The managers and staff were extremely kind to us all during this very difficult period This of course is a nursing home and most of the residents are very poorly, both mentally and physically. We were delighted to get mum back on her feet and she has now moved into a care home closer to where she grew up Thank you to everyone at Mill Lane for their care and kindness

Many Thanks for your lovely review. It was a pleasure to have your Mum stay with us at Mill Lane. I am so glad we could play a part in her rehabilitation and enable her to have more confidence with her mobility.

I visited my dad over the last couple of weeks (I live overseas). I was so pleased to see how he has settled in since he moved into Mill Lane in January. He has a nice light room and is very relaxed with all the staff. They are all very caring, compassionate and are really taking great care of him.

My sister was in this home for the last years of her life. When she died, earlier this year, the home failed to notify her GP. This was only discovered when the GP did a routine visit to the home, 12 days after my sister's death! This caused a long delay in registering her death and being able to arrange and hold her funeral. The family are still awaiting a formal letter of apology from the home. There has been a distinct lack of communication from them!!

Reply from Jane Galloway, Home Manager at Mill Lane Nursing and Residential Home
We are sorry to hear that you are disappointed with aspects of our communication at such a difficult time. This complaint is being addressed through our formal processes and we will remain in regular contact.

As this is an ongoing complaint, I do not feel it would be appropriate to comment on...

They have gone above and beyond in the short time we have become part of their Mill Lane family. They truly are amazing and have been so supportive along our new journey of entrusting a loved one in their care. I could see very quickly they are committed. I feel my mum is receiving high quality care in a safe warm and welcoming environment. My husband was admitted to Mill Lane Nursing Home on 2/1/26 directly from a two-week stay in the hospital. From day one, I have been impressed by the kindness and professionalism from all the staff, from the manager down. They are really good with my husband and have always made me and my family welcome, as well as responding positively to any concerns. Excellent home.

I cannot rate Mill Lane Nursing Home and its whole team highly enough for the expert care, kindness and compassion shown to my Dad and our family. The manager and her team worked so hard in giving my Dad the best experience we all could have wished for, and for that we will be forever grateful. Some of the things Dad particularly enjoyed were the accessible garden, the great food and the freedom to make his own choices in terms of social interactions and mobility. Dad had a small room on the ground floor close to the nurses office and although some of the furnishings were a little tired, the cleanliness and access to specialist equipment to support dad and monitor his safety was faultless. I never felt that anything was too much trouble and all the staff have been consistent in their respect and care. I would have no hesitation in recommending Mill lane to families needing to entrust their loved one into full time care.

Overall Experience
I came to Mill Lane nursing home for some convalescent care after neck surgery..
The overall care given here is marvellous at all levels.
The staff are respectful and I'm treated with dignity. They have been empathetic and mindful of my needs.
Cleanliness is good, rooms are cleaned daily and the home is pleasant smelling.
Food is outstanding: delicious, all meals served are to a high standard with good choices available.
For dementia patients the security is commendable.
I have observed great care given
from all the pleasant and friendly staff. Nothing is too much trouble and staff have gone the extra mile to help and encourage me.
Rooms are variable in size, most with toilet and hand basin. Shower and bath facilities nearby. All necessary furniture is provided, my bed is hospital type.
The manager and deputy manager are extremely approachable, friendly and supportive.
It's good to know that a nurse is always on duty.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mill Lane Nursing home.

No comments apart from lack of sufficient staff on the night shift 8 pm to 8 am. If they employ just one extra carer part-time from 8 pm to midnight, then my wife wouldn't be left either sitting on a full bed pan for two hours or left to sit in her own mess for two hours. She is only 52 and has full mental capacity but the carers, all two of them like to systematically check all 27 residents in order. I have been told not to interfere but it is hell, my wife's bottom is very sore.

My mother-in-law has been here for 4 months now and we continue to be extremely satisfied with the care and support provided. We are so relieved that we no longer have to worry about her. We visit regularly and have never seen anything other than pleasant and professional attitudes, towards all the residents. Our loved one is clean and tidy at all times and should you see a member of staff sitting down, it is because they are interacting with a resident. My mother-in-law can have challenging behaviour which has been minimised through the caring attitude she receives.

Reply from Suzanne Brindley, Home Manager at Mill Lane Nursing and Residential Home

Mum would have benefited from an ensuite but one was not available. The room required the bed against the wall and had to be moved each time to aid moving Mum. All staff were good and most excellent. Only problem was differing opinions on how often Mum's wound dressing needed to be done, daily or as necessary (it didn't smell and was shrinking so wasn't too bad) I am an RMN and RGN, I think the staff guessed this. I last worked as a nurse educator in a graduate program in Australia. I understand all the arguments regarding comfort/choice/distress etc but it was difficult for my mother, her partner and my brother to understand. The staff all cared and that shone through, special mention to the lady who handled decision-making at weekends beautifully and appropriately. Fantastic GP who understands end-of-life care and its realities. A lovely safe place to spend final days.

Reply from Suzanne Brindley, Home Manager at Mill Lane Nursing and Residential Home

Thank you for your kind comments these will be passed on to the team. The wound was to be dressed as needed and this was recorded on our Kare system. We are so glad you see us as a lovely safe place.

My mother received a wonderful welcome here from staff and they asked all about her preferences. Everywhere are smiling faces and willing responses. She has been treated with dignity and gentleness and her challenging behaviour met with a creative and kind response. We, her family, have been welcomed and shown where we can help ourselves and our mother to coffee, refreshments etc. The management engages in a can-do attitude here.

Mum was very reluctant to leave her home and was determined not to settle. The staff went above and beyond to make her feel welcome and cared for. She was soon joining in every day with the excellent activities. Visitors were always welcomed and could eat with Mum as well. As mum health deteriorated the care received by the nurses and carers was outstanding. Would highly recommend.

Mill Lane has had lots of staff coming and going. Sadly one of the entertainment ladies left but they all rallied around and still managed to care well for my father and others, a real family atmosphere. Shame that staff are so stretched and pushed every day but a very happy home all around.
