  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.673 for Mill Lane Nursing and Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (173 Excellents x 5) + (69 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 248 Ratings = 4.673

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mill Lane Nursing and Residential Home is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 6 positive Reviews (30 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 15 Reviews ÷ 6 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My partner was admitted to Mill Lane in April 2017 and I have visited her practically every day. She is very happy here, where the manager and his staff are always helpful and cheerful in their work. Her room is comfortable and always clean and tidy and the whole building has a distinct ambience which greets the visitor on arrival.

Mill Lane is a happy, friendly home where the whole staff team work together to create a nurturing environment for the residents with their caring, respectful attitude and hard work. Even when confronted with difficult behaviours, they manage the situations with kindness and encouragement. The manager is often involved with the residents too, taking an interest in their everyday life. I would recommend Mill Lane highly as my mum receives the best care possible. On Friday I was invited to join my mum for a fish and chip lunch with entertainment at 'The Hut'. A lovely day for all with good weather too. The staff on duty, again, made the day special for everyone. Thank you.

I can't thank the staff enough for the way they have accepted and welcomed him into Mill Lane. The atmosphere there is amazing. Every member of staff we have met have been wonderful to myself and family. The place is spotlessly clean and the food is excellent and care is brilliant. I haven't found it easy to release my husband of 60 years into care but I am so pleased he is at Mill Lane.

It's early days, sister has only been resident for 10 days.
When looking for nursing care, the welcome was friendly and open. We were immediately aware that the home was clean, rooms were clean, bright and a good size. Staff we met were friendly and jolly, showing interest in us and our needs. Within 24hours, nurse, doctor and district nurse had visited and a care plan arranged.
Management were/are open, informative and accommodating when discussing our needs and circumstances.
Mill Lane stood out compared with other homes visited.

Very happy with mums care. A visit to my house was organised quickly which all went to plan. Spoke to the deputy manager about mum moving rooms and was shown 2 rooms and he said to let them know if it's something I want to consider. He said he would chase up finding and let me know whats happening. Really pleased with how things are going.

My mother was at Mill Lane for nearly of 10 years and latterly she had little mobility and suffered increasingly from dementia so that carers had to do everything for her - including feeding and turning her regularly to avoid bedsores. She reached her 100th birthday at the end of September and sadly died soon afterwards, but I am sure that it was the excellent and consistent level of care which enabled Mum to achieve this milestone. The chef provided a lovely 100th birthday cake for her and the help and support of the staff both for her birthday celebrations and following her death was hugely appreciated. At Mill Lane, I knew that every member of staff including the cleaning, catering, admin and caring professions would do their best for mum and the other residents and give them the respect, care and indeed love, that they deserved. There was always a friendly welcome at any time of day or night and doctors were always called quickly if there were any health concerns at all.

As a person who has had experience of nursing homes I was skeptical about my grandad going into one. It wasn't a decision that was easy for us as a family and we were all very upset that this was the situation that we found ourselves in, as my grandad became ill. However, Mill Lane has completely changed my mind. My grandad was clearly so well looked after by all the staff. He obviously had a good relationship with the staff and they obviously thought a lot of him too.
Nothing was ever any trouble. The staff were all happy and helpful, which was so reassuring to see.
Sadly my grandad passed away, but the staff did everything they could to ensure that he was comfortable and pain-free. They were also a great support to us whilst we were going through this tough time. I can't thank the staff enough. I will forever be thankful to you all. You made a hard situation bearable with your kindness, love the Giles family.

My grandfather was here for around 3 months.
We can't thank the staff at Mill Lane enough for caring for my grandad in his final few months. He was looked after so well.
All the staff are amazing. They are so attentive and caring to all residents and their families.
I didn't have a good opinion of care homes before and I was so upset when my grandad had to go into care, however, Mill Lane has changed my opinion. What a fantastic place. I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a home from home care home.

My grandad's death was peaceful with us by his side. Thank you, Mill Lane and all your staff.

My mum had a stroke in August and was in hospital for six weeks. She was very low and near to giving up. Eventually, she started to get her speech back but no movement on her left-hand side so was told she would need twenty-four hour care and would have to go in a home. She found this very hard to accept, at eighty-three she was very independent and still lived on her own.
We told her we would find the best nursing home going and that she wouldn't be left there, we would organise a wheelchair and take her out. Mill Lane has been brilliant. Mum has settled in nicely and seems to have banter with most of the staff and they seem to really care.
Mill Lane is highly recommended.

My mother passed away in March - she has been in this care home for 18 months and was 91. I am so grateful to everybody for making her last months so happy and worry free. I also benefitted from the overwhelming kindness and care shown to us by every member of staff. I cannot begin to show my appreciation to everyone who guided us through a time when we both knew that mum's days were numbered. She was happy to the end which came rather unexpectedly and all the staff were almost as upset as me and they obviously really cared for her. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this home from home. In fact, I already have to anyone that will listen.

The care provided by the home is both of a high professional standard and also given with kindness and a concern for each individual resident. There is a real sense that the needs and wishes of each resident are noted and an attempt made to satisfy them as much as possible. The consistency of care personnel is of vital importance to the wellbeing of residents and there is an impression that this is strived for.

Unfortunately, due to failing health, our mother was only at Mill Lane for just over two weeks but we would like to thank the management and staff for the excellent care they provided during her short stay. The level of care and commitment was second to none and we were pleased that we had selected Mill Lane for her to spend the last few weeks of her life. The staff did all they could to make her as comfortable as possible and we were only sorry that she wasn't well enough to enjoy the numerous activities on offer. Thank you once again to all the staff for their kindness and professionalism. Best wishes.

Sadly my mother was only here for 8 weeks before she passed away, but the care she received was excellent which was a great comfort for us, knowing that she was being looked after in a kind and respectful way. Whenever anyone visited we were always made to feel welcome and certainly never a nuisance. We cannot thank them enough for all the care and support.

My mum was a resident at Mill Lane for four and a half years until her passing last week. Staff were always friendly and we were greeted with a smile. Mum was very well looked after and had several of the staff as friends. Mill Lane is a small home so the atmosphere is more homely. I have been very happy with the care mum received and was glad to think she was in a safe environment.

My 96 year old mother has been at Mill Lane for approximately 18 months and during this time has deteriorated in health and mobility but has had the help, support and care of good staff. At this moment they are, I believe, excellent, (which includes everyone connected with Mill Lane) working as a team with good humour and showing great care and respect to all the residents, which is lovely to observe. Of course there may be problems at times, but the management is approachable, listens and takes action if necessary.
