My mum has been at Mill Lane for approximately a year. She moved during COVID and it took her a short while to settle in but now she would not want to be anywhere else. She is very fond of the staff. I am always made welcome as a visitor, and staff have tried to not let COVID interrupt visits whenever possible. Mum has her own bits and pieces in her room, pictures, ornaments, and chair etc. making it homely. She has just moved downstairs so that she has a view of the garden to look at (as she is mostly bed-bound). I am thankful to all the staff who made this move possible.

Reply from Cathrine Arbon, Home Manager at Mill Lane Nursing and Residential Home
Thank you so much for your kind review. Mum is a pleasure to care for. I'm so happy that the move downstairs is a success which makes her smile. Mum loves to see the view of the garden and the flowers and birds.

You're a wonderful family who attend regularly and spend time reading with Mum. Family...

My friend moved into Mill Lane back in December 2019, initially for respite care, as his Alzheimers was progressing and he could no longer cope at home. He was obviously very apprehensive but made to feel very welcome and soon became a permanent resident. He always says he is happy and can't fault the place. He is encouraged to dance, as he used to be a ballroom dancer and he loves it when there is entertainment at the home. He participates in a lot more activities now as the activities co-ordinator is fantastic with him. Despite there having been several management changes and the current situation with the Coronavirus, the present manager is amazing and maintains a calm and consistent presence within the home. She is always quick and efficient in responding to any queries or concerns and is warm and genuine. The staff are friendly and I feel that my friend is being well cared for and is treated with dignity and respect.

My father has received excellent care since arriving at Mill Lane in January, particularly during the last few weeks when unwell and he has been supported by staff since his arrival to keep going with his love of growing flowers and tomatoes. More importantly, he says the food is superb with Friday fish and chips being his favourite.

My husband was admitted to Mill Lane Nursing Home for palliative care at the end of his life. He was treated with great respect and we were informed at all stages in his care. The family were supported too and we were pleased to be with him when he died. The nursing and management team were excellent.

My wife and myself were more than happy with the care and kindness shown to our elderly aunt. During her short stay at the home, she seemed calm and stressless which was pleasant for us to see.

My father was only in Mill Lane Nursing Home for a short period before he passed away. During this time he was looked after in a caring and dignified fashion. The staff were always courteous and professional at all times we visited my father. Many thanks to all those involved.

Mum came into this care home straight from hospital. Right away, I felt a good atmosphere in the home. Mum has a number of issues including not eating, not sleeping, prone to falling and shouting out to name a few. The home has dealt or are dealing with the issues and are beginning to see the better side of mum. We are very happy with her care.

The home is friendly and welcoming. Staff are kind and helpful. My father-in-law is well looked after and likes the staff. My two concerns are - bells are always ringing, patients are high need and staff are thin on the ground and rushed off their feet. (Not enough staff)

My second concern is the carpet which is smelly and stained. I wish I could clean or replace it.

I have always been impressed with the care my friend has received. So friendly. But in this latest hot weather, I was impressed to see the abundance of fans to keep both residents and staff cool. Well done to the manager and team!

My father was with you for only a week before passing away. However, your manager was both efficient and professional in organising transfer from hospital and arranging appropriate care once he had arrived.

Both nursing home and staff were well organised, kind and it felt more like a retreat than a care home. The manager and staff deserve much credit.

Although my friend was only at the home for a few months; throughout the time, the care and the nursing was excellent. After day surgery, my friend needed regular nursing and then recently when my friend became very frail, the excellent care, with dignity, continued until her passing away on the 12th March.

My mother has been a resident since May 2016 and in that time, her dementia has worsened and she is now bedridden.
The personal care she receives is very good.
Management and staff are always friendly and approachable.

I'm happy my mother is well taken care of.

Until my Mum's passing on the 14th December, she had resided at Mill Lane for 2 years 5 months. During that time she was well loved, cared for and supported with dignity and respect by the wonderful staff team. Mum's health had deteriorated during the last few months of her life so she preferred to spend a lot more time in her room. Until then she had enjoyed some of the entertainment programmes especially singing and the monthly Church service. Mum managed a fish and chip lunch in April at the hut, it was so lovely that I was able to go too to assist her with lunch and was invited to have lunch with everyone too. Mill Lane has the real feel of "home". The Manager and all the staff team do a superb job and I would thoroughly recommend the home to others in the future.

My mum has lived at Mill Lane for the past 4 years. She was always very happy there. Due to her dementia, she did not always understand certain social activities but was always involved. During August/September Mum became very poorly and the care she received was exceptional, she was treated with the utmost respect. The support we received from the manager and all his team was first class during the last few days. Thank you Mill Lane!

My mother is bedridden with mid-range dementia and has been in the home for three years.

We have always found the staff to be very dedicated, cheerful and caring. They are always under their pressure but still provide a high level of care. There have been a number of staff changes, including management, which has sometimes affected the standard of care. But overall we and more importantly my mother, all feel happy with how she is looked after.
