Since my dad moved into Mill Lane I have been happy with the care he has recieved. I had concerns about how well he would be cared for before he moved in but all these have been put to rest. The only negative feedback I have is regarding the laundry. Even though all his clothing has been labelled, we often find his drawers and wardrobe empty and have found him in clothes that aren't his on a few occasions.

Reply from Suzanne Brindley, Home Manager at Mill Lane Nursing and Residential Home

Sorry about your laundry experience, we have been focusing hard on the speed of laundry and hope you find this improved. If not please do come and see me.

My husband has recently joined the nursing home and I have been impressed with the staff and facilities in the home.

All staff have made my husband feel welcome and when I visit, my husband is in clean clothes and looks cared for. If we need any help the staff are always on hand. The manager of the home has been very supportive with my husband going into the home and she has also been supportive to me and our family.

The facilities within any nursing home are important but what really makes an excellent home is the staff and their commitment, care and love they show towards each resident.
During Mum's year, we were able to observe this first-hand. The activity coordinators truly care and show love and respect for each resident. They know each one so well to support their needs. They made Mum's life really happy and that made us so happy too.

There are also others who quietly work to support the running of the home but make a huge difference. Thank you to the handyman who always manages to sort out problems promptly. The gardener, who keeps the grounds looking lovely - so important when sitting out in the sunshine. The visiting keyboard lady who encourages lots of singing and fun. The mini-bus driver, allowing external visits. There have been some amazing carers too who treated Mum like their own family - thank you. Keep up the good work - you really make a difference!

My aunt was transferred to Mill Lane two months ago from another care home which had closed down. The facilities and ambience of Mill Lane are much better than the other care home. We are very pleased with her care and new surroundings. In particular, the staff create a very warm and homely atmosphere which is a credit to themselves and the management of the home.

My husband was at Mill Lane Nursing and Residential Home for about two months before he passed away. The care he received was outstanding. We were permitted to visit at any time for as long as we liked. The staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and caring. We were always kept notified of any health issues and the progression of my husband's condition. As his needs increased they were always one step ahead and ready for what he needed next. In his last few hours, the staff were exceptional.

My Dad arrived at Mill Lane Nursing Home in October 2022 after four months in hospital and being assessed at other care homes. When we went to look at the home we were immediately welcomed and knew that this would be a good place for Dad in his final months. We were not wrong. Every member of staff was so caring. They welcomed us when we arrived and checked in on Dad every time someone went past his room. The love and care they showed to Dad was amazing. On the night that Dad died the staff looked after him with such care right to the end. The home is well-run and calm which was a good environment for Dad to be in. Our family cannot thank everyone enough for all they did for Dad and for the peace of mind it gave us all knowing he was being well looked after.

My father was at Mill Lane for about two months before he passed away. Prior to that he had spent time at two different homes in assessment beds paid for by the Council. Although one of those other homes seemed more modern and swanky, the care Dad received at Mill Lane was far better. The nurses and carers were extremely compassionate and caring and the staffing numbers meant that, despite Dad being largely bed-bound during his stay and in need of regular repositioning due to bed sores, the care he received was exactly what he needed. The staff anticipated and provided for the quite rapid progress of his condition. The food was well prepared and Dad particularly loved the home-made milkshakes!

Thanks to all at Mill Lane for the care and love you showed Dad.

My aunt was moved from hospital to Mill Lane Nursing Home in mid-August. At first she was quite upset, but after a few days and wonderful care she thought it was wonderful. The manager and staff do all they can to make her comfortable. She says it is like staying in a hotel, the food is good. There is entertainment most days and if she feels like having a day in bed, that is not a problem. The staff bring her meals to her room. All in all, our family are so pleased she has a room in this lovely nursing home.

Dear Sandra, you are so kind.
I'm so glad we made her happy decorating her room for her as she wished with lovely forest themes.

It's never an easy decision for parents/children when moving into care but the whole family have been really happy that they have chosen Mill Lane Nursing Home. They took time to allow us to visit and worked really hard to help Mum settle into her new home in April. It is a "happy home" and this is always evident in the care and support Mum receives. Everyone goes the extra mile to make the residents safe, comfortable and cared for. This ethos of working starts at the top and radiates through the whole team who work in such a hard, positive way. The food is great, with good options. Different spaces allow residents to be together but also have quiet times too. The outside garden spaces are lovely a real boon, especially in summer. The activities coordinator organises suitable fun games, activities and music and takes those who are able out in the mini-bus which Mum has really enjoyed. So many things have been celebrated, birthdays, Jubilee etc. Thank you all so much.

The dedicated staff at Mill Lane are friendly and gives the home a warm family feel. The events organiser is kept busy each day with the residents doing crafts, cake making, potting plants, trips out in the minibus, Easter egg hunts and jubilee celebrations. Fridays are take-away nights which could be anything from pizza to Chinese. The food is home cooked and always smells delicious. The residents have a choice of menu and tea and biscuits in between.

At a difficult time in someone's life they have to, if they can, make a decision on where they spend their remaining days, both for themselves and for families. Upon being released to nursing home care from hospital care it was quite an anxious time, I cannot praise enough how welcome the manager and her team made the resident and myself, which without a doubt helped to settle him, and eased my worries. The manager and her team are always there to help and answer any concerns or questions.

All staff are friendly, helpful and caring, nurses, carers, auxillaries, cooks, cleaners, maintenance - nothing is a problem.

The residence is clean, tidy, comfortable, has all his needs. The food is really good too, always looks good and smells good, and cater for what ever he fancies, guests can eat too (result!), so I can eat with him. He can have bits and pieces to decorate his room making it comfy.

Mum has just reached the age of 100 and the manager and the team at Mill Lane carried out a fantastic celebration of the occasion. School children came to sing Happy Birthday, the home was decked out with bunting and balloons, a lovely cake was prepared for her and a super Elvis impersonator was there to provide great entertainment and deliver the card from The Queen.

Mum has always received the very best of care and attention and it very much is a home from home. Thanks to all at Mill Lane for all they do for Mum.

My mother moved into Mill Lane in December 2021 following an accident at home and a short period in hospital. She was physically very frail and confused. From that very first day, she has received the very best care from the staff. They have not only been attentive to her needs, physical, mental and emotional but have shown her genuine affection and understanding. They have accepted her choice to remain in bed but even on the busiest of days have made time to spend a few precious minutes with her. To see her face light up when a carer or other member of staff comes into the room is a joy! I can’t single out a single person for praise because they are all great but special thanks to the activities coordinator for her creative programmes and congratulations to the new manager for initiating residents’ meetings and for her efforts to involve relatives and friends in the Mill Lane family.

My family and I cannot thank all the staff for all the tender loving care shown to our brother during his stay at your nursing home. The care and attention he was given was second to none, also his family when we were visiting him, we were also treated with care and kindness and above all, the most welcome cups of tea ever.

Our mother was admitted into Mill Lane Home in January 2022 but sadly passed away after just 6 days there. Management and all staff made every effort to ensure that she was looked after well and treated with dignity, and also made our visiting as stress free as possible. Their care and consideration made us feel that Mum was in good hands, and that we would be contacted and consulted every step of the way.

Some of the ratings given only reflect 4 stars - this is because in most situations there is always room for improvement and all endeavours should strive to be the best at all times.
